Introduction :
Welcome to my first RMT. I created this team based on the idea of Quaquaval's Ice Spinner. The primary advantage of this set is its ability to take down pesky and annoying Pokémon like Dragapult
, Clodsire
, and Dragonite
that are otherwise challenging to beat. I know you may be considering Close Combat or Taunt, which are more interesting options to defeat Kingambit:kingambit :and Toxapex
, respectively. However, despite these disadvantages, this team, combined with Iron Moth
, allows you to overcome these challenges and leverage Quaquaval's potential to sweep late game.
To accompany this beautiful Pokémon, I chose Great Tusk
, the best spinner in the tier, with its ability to threaten many Pokemons with Knock Off, which can also remove items. I then added Amoonguus:amoonguus: and Garganacl
to create a solid defensive core that can handle the entire meta.
Finally, I completed the team with a 3-attack Iron Moth and a Choice Band Dragapult
, allowing you to apply good offensive pressure on the opponent's team with Quaquaval
.
Detailed Roles & sets :
Let's begin with Quaquaval, as I mentioned in the introduction, I built the team around this Pokémon and, in particular, this set.
What is the purpose of this Quaquaval set? Or rather, what are its advantages over other fighting Pokémon?
This set has two advantages. Firstly, despite its low defensive investment, it can manage Kingambit
or Greninja
relatively well (though some prediction is still necessary). Secondly, once the opponent's Toxapex
or Dondozo
has been eliminated, it can easily sweep. Therefore, this set has an excellent matchup against quite offensive teams, becoming very threatening very quickly.
Regarding the set we have here, Aqua Step and Roost are two essential attacks for any non-Choice Band Quaquaval
. Besides that, there is, of course, the Ice Spinner, a move that gives Quaquaval the ability to bypass Pokemons like Amoonguss
, Dragonite
, and Dragapult
.
Finally, Bulk Up allows us to set up against Pokémon such as Great Tusk:great tusk;, in addition to helping against Kingambit
.
Investment in speed allows us to outspeed Dragapult
after an Aqua Step while resisting as possible.
Several variations are possible with this set. Replace Bulk Up with Close Combat or Taunt to be even more offensive or keep Bulk Up but use Covert Cloak to defeat Garganacl
and Toxapex
without haze.
Now talk about the defensive core of this team. Let's start with the most common Pokemon: Great Tusk
. I believe you are all familiar with Great Tusk, but a little reminder never hurts. Great Tusk
is the most commonly used Pokémon in the game right now. It is one of the few Pokémon to have rapid spin + knock off, adding to its phenomenal bulk, access to stealth rock, and a very interesting type in the meta. Despite having no investment in attack, it still deals significant damage.
This set is a classic one; the physical investment makes it one of the bulkiest Pokémon in the tier. Body Press gives it a very good STAB that utilizes its exceptional defense, while rapid spin, knock off, and stealth rock provide it with exceptional utility.
As in many teams, here it's a pokemon that can come in on Kingambits
or Roaring Moons
once the tera is exhausted, on other Great Tusks, physical Dragapults
, Garganacls
, Iron Hands
etc... It's a bit of a jack of all trades in the team, managing half of the meta not too badly.
Moving on to the next Pokemon, Amoonguss
. This Pokémon serves several purposes. First, it serves as a check for some of the meta's key Pokémon, such as Garganacl
, Dragonite
, Meowscarada
, and Walking Wake
. It can also put the opposing team to sleep and force switches on Gholdengo
, allowing for an easy double switch to Iron Moth. Its typing enables it to remove Tspikes, while its bulk combined with Regenerator allows us to send it out many times without much risk against Pokémon like Dragapult
, Greninja
(beware of Ice Beam), or Iron Valiant
.
As for the set, it is quite standard. Spore is essential for putting Pokémon to sleep, Grass Knot allows us to win against all the Garganacl except the "Block tera fly" sets, which are pretty uncommon so you are fine most of the time. Sludge Bomb is STAB that can poison and hinder Dragapults
or Dragonites
who think they can switch in. Finally, in last place, we have the choice between Foul Play and Clear Smog. There is probably no "best" choice - it depends on your play style.
Maximum HP investment with 84 Special Defense EVs prevents a 2HKO from Choice Specs Dragapult's
Shadow Ball; the rest of the investment is poured in Defense to better check Great Tusk
.
The item, the Eject Button, gives us a free switch against many Pokémon, such as Dragapult
or Valiant
, in addition to activating Regenerator. Finally, the Fire tera allows us to gain resistance to Torch Song from Skelidirge:skelidirge:, which otherwise causes problems once Tera'd, without losing resistance to Iron Valiant:iron valiant :.
Now let's finish the defensive Pokémons with Garganacl
. This Pokémon offers extreme teambuilding ease by countering half of the meta. It also benefits greatly from the Tera, which allows it, by giving it the Water type, to be even more difficult to kill and better manage Gholdengo
.
Garganacl
is there for its ability to handle physical Pokémon relatively well, its resistance thanks to its Tera Type, and its ability to destroy stall. Without it, Pokémon like Baxcalibur
, Dragonite
, or Dragapult
would have a much better matchup and could easily destroy our team.
The set is a classic curse set, allowing us to easily break common cores. We use Curse, inevitably, Salt Curse, which is also mandatory. Finally, we use Earthquake and Recover for two reasons:
• to pass Gholdengo
, Toxapex
, Clodsire
, etc. with Covert Cloak
• to have more longevity. Keep it high in HP so it can continue to handle dragons, and Kingambit
to a lesser extent.
Now let's finish our offensive core. We have Iron Moth
, the second last Pokémon and my favorite Pokémon in this meta. It is exceptional. Breaking and sweeping bulky teams. It can quickly handle annoying Pokémon such as Gholdengo
and can surprise other Pokémon, such as Iron Valiant
, thanks to the tera.
Regarding the set, we use a set with Morning Sun+3 attacks. Morning Sun gives us longevity allowing us to heal easily and manage Pokémon like Gholdengo
more easily. Apart from that, we use double STAB, the Fire type being essential because you want to hit Corviknight
, Kingambit
, and Gholdengo
. I prefer the ability of the Poison type to inflict big neutral damage and to hit super efficiently vs Hatterenne
and Skeledirge
after tera fairy. Finally, Psychic gives us very good coverage, which damages Clodsire
and Toxapex
. The tera allows us to inflict very good damage with Psychic against Skeledirge
, Garganacl
, or AV Toxapex
, in addition to giving us resistance to Psyshock of Valiant
. The Heavy-Duty Boots increase our longevity, allowing us to come freely without having to fear hazards.
Let us finish our team with our third offensive Pokémon, Dragapult
. I do not have much to elaborate on, as it serves as our source of speed control and greatly benefits from the abilities of Quaquaval
and Great tusk
to force Kingambit's tera. Nothing else of particular significance to mention.
Regarding the set, I have chosen a Choice Band set for several reasons. Firstly, this set allows us to consistently deal significant damage to Pokémon such as Hatterene
, Ting lu
or AV toxapex
. Secondly, once the opponent becomes aware of the Choice Band, all switch-ins to Dragapult
(except for max Def Garganacl) become susceptible to Iron Moth
or Garganacl
and vice versa, enabling Dragapult to apply pressure to opposing Clodsire
or Skeledirge
non-tera with ease. Finally, the ability of Dragon darts to hit in 2 distinct moves greatly improves our matchup against ho with indeedee
and especially Poltaegeist
.
This set can be modified in one aspect: by replacing sucker punch with tera blast steel, so we can bypass skeliderge:skelidirge: tera fairy by means other than Iron Moth and OHKO Valiant
.
Matchups & threats :
Hatterenne : the most annoying pokemon for our team, easily taking 1 kill at least. In general, to manage it, you'll have to force it to tera thanks to Dragapult

, which will allow Garganacl

to win its duel and thus reduce the threat it represents.
Be careful, I'm only talking about the CM set, a set button will be much less or not annoying for the team but it hurts more so try to predict the set.
Baxcalibur (and dragons) : I'm only talking about Baxcalibur

but what I say can be applied to dragons in general. Baxcalibur is the second problem of the team, if you see one you will have to play more aggressive, avoid sending too much Guus

, do not hesitate to make doubles and especially anticipate well in the case of a band. So our only Pokémon that can survive 2 Glaive Rush from a band is Tusk

which is weak to ice type. I did not put Baxcalibur

in first position because it is generally easy to surprise them with a tera of Guss

or Tusk

, but if the tera is already used and the Baxca made a DD there is only one solution:
forfeit.
Skelidirge : The problem is usually not Skele

at the base but once he has tera he becomes extremely annoying if Sub. There are no things to do against it, just Moth

is there to abuse a tera of Skeli

but Moth

does not win alone.
Matchups :
- Stall : imo the easiest mu, u have curse garga and tera psy moth, garga can win without thinking vs 1/2 stall.
- Offense/ho : quaquaval is here! After the ban of shed tail, ho without azu are ~ 6-0 by quaquaval, just dont tera too early if there is a gambit.
- Sun : difficult mu, u have ho play arround tera garga and pult but brute bonnet + wake isn't easy.
- Indeedee ho: quaquaval & pult can pressure but u need to be focus, 1 turn for polteageist and it's ~ lose lol (u need to tera moth and beg that he dont anticipate).
- Bo, too many bo style so i cant say anything imo.
- Hstack : use pult to weak ting lu and moth will solo 1/2 hstack lol.
That's all for this rmt, thanks
Felcis for helping me and u for reading ! :)
