QC Checks: Shrang

Overview
########

- Checks EKiller
- Walls Blaziken, Scarf Zekrom, Mega Khan, and a variety of physical attackers
- Good at spreading status and good on stall teams
- Gives no fucks about Gothitelle
- Excellent defensive typing
- Walls CM Arceus-Electric but other CM Arceus and Geo Xern can still blast through it
- Doesn't like being poisoned or burned
- Has limited utility and doesn't preform very well against stall

Quagod
########
name: Unaware Wall
move 1: Toxic
move 2: Recover
move 3: Scald
move 4: Earthquake / Protect
ability: Unaware
item: Leftovers
evs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
nature: Relaxed

Moves
========

- Toxic required to stall out mons and punish counters that switch in
- Recover makes Quagod virtually impossible to KO when using a physical attacker
- Scald is handy for neutering physical attackers
- Earthquake hits Toxic immune mons
- Protect prolongs life, stalls for Toxic damage, and has general utility. The extra life given by Leftovers is especially useful against Mega Khan and offensive Ho-Oh

Set Details
========

- Max defense in comparison to the following spreads allows Quagsire to wall Mega Khan, Scarf Zekrom Outrage, Offensive Groudon, and is Quagsire's best option when against offensive Ho-Oh
- A spread of 248 HP / 116 Def+ / 144 SpD allows Quagsire to escape the 2HKO from 0 SpA neutral Arceus Judgment and still comfortably wall Life Orb EKiller
- A spread of 248 HP / 128 Atk / 136 Def+ allows Quagsire to OHKO Mega Gengar with Earthquake and still comfortably wall Life Orb EKiller

Usage Tips
========

- Tank physical attacks
- Beware of status
- Beware of the rare Life Orb MixQuaza Draco Meteor
- Punish appropriate switch-ins accordingly
- Don't let opponents set up when you can't wall them, such as against Refresh / Substitute CM Arceus

Team Options
========

- Cleric, when Quagsire is burned or poisoned it can no longer wall threats consistently such as Mega Khan, and badly poisoned prevents Quagsire from walling for long
- Special Walls
- Stalltwo switch in
- Stallbreaker

Other Options
########

- Encore
- Counter
- Haze
- Amnesia
- Curse
- Infestation
- Rock Slide
- Body Slam

Checks and Counters
########

- Strong special attackers (Xerneas, Kyogre, Palkia, Yveltal, etc.)
- Offensive and defensive grass-types (Shaymin-S, Arceus-Grass, Amoonguss)
- Taunt users (Stalltwo, Whimsicott, Sableye)
- Toxic
- Very Strong Physical Attackers (Life Orb or Choice Band Outrage from Zekrom and Rayquaza are just about the only physical attacks strong enough to break through Quagisre, although due to confusion they cannot consistently break through. CB Ho-Oh can also 2HKO Quagsire, however Recover spam can result in Ho-Oh KOing itself due to recoil before Quagsire falls)
- Ferrothorn (you can try and fish for Scald Burns)
- Anything bulky that has Refresh + Recovery or Rest can cause a stalemate

PM conversation on PS:

[16:33] @shrang: - Max defense allows Quagsire to wall virtually all physical attackers
[16:33] @shrang: - A spread of 248 HP / 116 Def+ / 144 SpD allows Quagsire to escape the 2HKO from 0 SpA neutral Arceus Judgment and still comfortably wall Life Orb EKiller
[16:33] @shrang: - A spread of 248 HP / 128 Atk / 136 Def+ allows Quagsire to OHKO Mega Gengar with Earthquake and still comfortably wall Life Orb EKiller
[16:33] @shrang: which one's better
[16:33] Minority Suspect: I like the first one
[16:33] @shrang: do you need max defense to do its job
[16:34] @shrang: like explain what it walls that the others don't
[16:34] Minority Suspect: max defense takes stuff like Rayquaza / Zekrom Outrage better
[16:34] @shrang: otherwise change it do the other ones
[16:34] @shrang: oh I guess outrage is an important one
[16:34] @shrang: can it take outrage with those other spreads?
[16:36] Minority Suspect: with the lower defense investment
[16:36] Minority Suspect: it takes 65% max from Scarf Zek Outrage
[16:36] Minority Suspect: while max defense walls completly
[16:37] @shrang: ok
[16:37] @shrang: mention that
[16:37] @shrang: in your explanation of the max defense
[16:37] Minority Suspect: mkay

- Also mention that Quag has little other utility though, it just sits around doing jack shit most of the time, so it's very prone to slower teams and hazard setters (altho EQ hits Klefki reasonably hard)

Otherwise, qc 1/3

252+ Atk Mega Rayquaza Dragon Ascent vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 220-261 (55.8 - 66.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

This is wall?

QC rejected 2/3

If I want an unaware wall I'll just use Clefable which has access to support moves like Wish and Heal Bell. Even though Quagsire isn't as Gengar weak, being status prone and having a limited niche in what it can wall will mean you have to support this mon so much that your result is an overall weaker build than one with say, Clefable+Scizor.

QC Rejected 3/3

It has some cool uses, but is mostly overshadowed by other Pokemon in the few things it can do.

Also as an aside, Khan 2HKOes Quagsire with Jolly Return so it doesn't actually beat it.
