Mega Latios is a powerful wallbreaker that breaks through common defensive Pokemon such as Toxapex, Landorus-T, Rotom-W, and Clodsire using its impressive coverage and high Special Attack while also having a good Speed tier to deal with Pokemon like Garchomp and Urshifu-R. However, Mega Latios slightly suffers from four-moveslot syndrome, and while it cannot run all the coverage it wants, this doesn't hinder its effectiveness much. Aura Sphere is a must have in a tier plagued by Kingambit, as it easily Pursuit traps and KOes Mega Latios, and it also allows Mega Latios to hit other Steel-type Pokemon like Heatran and Ferrothorn. Mystical Fire allows it to secure the OHKO on Ferrothorn while also hitting Mega Scizor and Gholdengo, but it struggles more against the likes of Tera Grass Heatran, Dragonite, Tera Dragon Toxapex, and Slowbro. Ice Beam allows it to check Ground- and Dragon-types like Landorus-T, Garchomp, Gliscor, and Dragonite, but it will then have difficulty with the likes of Slowbro, Mega Scizor, and Gholdengo. Substitute lets it bypass status and also bait a Tera or Sucker Punch from Kingambit and neutralize the aforementioned Slowbro, but Mega Latios then gets walled by most, if not all, of the previously mentioned checks. Roost allows it to more consistently check Pokemon like Urshifu-R and Mega Charizard Y while also letting it consistently wallbreak throughout the course of a game. Mega Latios fits well on bulky offensive teams that can utilize its ability to break through defensive cores such as Toxapex and Gliscor, which opens up opportunities for allies like Zamazenta and Iron Valiant to wallbreak as well. However, it is easily checked by faster threats that can OHKO it like Iron Valiant, Enamorus, Dragapult, and many Choice Scarf users like Gholdengo and Tapu Lele. It is also walled by specific tanks like Heatran, Toxapex, Dragonite, or Slowbro, depending on its coverage. Therefore, it appreciates partners that can deal with the aforementioned Pokemon such as Gholdengo, Heatran, Clodsire, and Ferrothorn. Entry hazard support is also incredible at allowing Mega Latios to rack up chip damage by the switches it naturally forces, and its checks like Heatran, Slowbro, and the like have reduced longevity when switching into hazards and become easier to break, so allies like Samurott-H, Landorus-T, or Heatran assist well. Mega Latios also pairs well with the likes of Tapu Lele and Kartana, weakening their shared Steel-type checks so that the latter two can clean up end-game.
