Obwohl Primarina oft als RegenVest- und Calm Mind-Nutzer verwendet wird, kann es auch effektiv mit einem Choice Specs-Set gespielt werden, welches den hohen Spezialangriff und die starke STAB-Kombination nutzt, womit nur noch ein paar natürliche Switch-ins übrig bleiben. Weather Ball trifft Desolate Land-Nutzer wie Heatran und Ogerpon-H. Psychic Noise wird oft benutzt, um Desolate Land-Iron Moth zu klatschen, welches sonst in Primarina frei einwechseln könnte. Ebenfalls hindert es Switch-ins wie Empoleon daran, sich zu heilen. Mit Flip Turn kann sich Primarina aus schlechten Matchups wie gegen Manaphy rauspivoten. Es mag Manaphy mit dem RegenVest-Set überhaupt nicht, genauso wenig wie Bulletproof-Pokémon wie Iron Treads, daher schätzt es Support-Optionen, die diese zermürben können wie z. B. Entry-Hazard-Setter wie Ting-Lu und Sandy Shocks, Knock Off-Benutzer wie Roaring Moon und RegenVest-Nutzer wie Swampert und Manaphy. Meowscarada und Roaring Moon bilden auch solide VoltTurn-Cores, mit denen Primarina gegen deren Checks wie Corviknight und physisch-defensives-Great Tusk auf das Feld kommt und diese für sie zerbrechen kann. In return, Primarina brings them in on Pokemon like Manaphy and Hisuian Goodra.
