SV OU PRESSURE : A Zapdos-Galar and Garchomp Offense - PEAKED 1857 (#90)

Hey everyone ! Been nearly two years since I last posted an RMT here. Recently got back into playing and put together this team that's done quite well on the ladder, I hit 1857 as of now, will probably update if I peak higher. I thought I'd share it, get some feedback hoping to become a better builder and overall player. I'm sure better players than me could reshuffle this into a more competitive team. Let's dive in !

:pecharunt:Initially tought about Pech being the glue of the team. Checks so many things at once and great pivot. Love this mon.
:pecharunt::garchomp:Wanted to use the mixed attacker Chomp set which people used a lot more often earlier in the gen. Provides SR and and likes to come in on Pech's answers (Gambit, Slowking-G).
:pecharunt::garchomp::kyurem:Found DD Kyurem to be very strong in the current metagame, just rips apart balance/fat when played correctly. Kind of a cheaper Baxcalibur.
:pecharunt::garchomp::kyurem::darkrai:Needed special firepower, really liked Darkrai for its 125 base speed and its access to Nasty Plot. Also benefits from Pech's pivoting ability, making it easier for it to find setup opportunities. Same as Kyurem, destroys balance/fat.
:pecharunt::garchomp::kyurem::darkrai::At that point I realized I was really weak against Specs Pult and Gholdengo. Slapped Gambit in there, adds firepower and a great ghost/dragon check.
:pecharunt::garchomp::kyurem::darkrai::zapdos-galar:Needed speed control, tried Pult as well as common scarfers (Meow, Enam, Lando) but none of them performed as well as Galarian Zapdos. Hits like a truck, provides much needed flying type and abuses Lando's Intimidate.

1743133077119.png
1743133453510.png
1743133119167.png

Kingambit @ Dread Plate
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Kowtow Cleave
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch

- Swords Dance

Roles :
Late game sweeper / Ghost resist / Revenge Killer

Item : Dread Plate boosts Dark-typed attacks by 20%, making him a much more threatening cleaner or revenge killer.

Tera Type : Tera Dark to further enchance its cleaning capabilities.

Moves : Classic moveset, really not much to say.

EVs & Nature : Adamant Nature, Max Attack and Max Speed.

Other Options : Tera Fighting and Low Kick instead of Kowtow Cleave, which makes it better againt opposing Gambits. Reason why I did not consider any other Teras is because Kingambit here is our spare wheel against stall, and these two Teras make the matchup bearable.

garchomp.png

1743135449931.png
1743135493566.png
1743135616783.png

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Draco Meteor

- Fire Blast

Roles :
Hazard setter / Wallbreaker

Item : Life Orb boosts its attacks by 30%, further enhancing its wallbreaking capabilities.

Tera Type : Tera Fire for Fairy resist and additional fire STAB for Fire Blast.

Moves : SR and EQ, classic. Draco Meteor catches off guard Tusk/Lando/Gliscor and Fire Blast Tinkaton/Corv/Skarm.

EVs & Nature : Naive Nature, Max Speed and Max Attack. Allows Chomp to hit those physical walls hard while not sacrificing Attack. Naive is preferred to Hasty because physical attackers are much more common.

Other Options : Could run Flamethrower instead of Fire Blast for more accuracy. Other than that, don't think there's a set with a better coverage than this, this is pretty much the perfect mixed attacker.

1743137668293.png
1743137738173.png
1743137831664.png

Pecharunt @ Air Balloon
Ability: Poison Puppeteer
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Malignant Chain
- Hex
- Parting Shot
- Recover

Roles : Pivot

Item : Air Balloon makes Pecharunt immune to Ground temporarily.

Tera Type : Tera Flying for Ground immunity after losing the Air Balloon.

Moves : Overall pretty much your usual Pecharunt set. Parting Shot is what makes it such a great pivot. Checks all Ogerpons, Meow, Zamazenta, Enamorus (with the balloon), Iron Valiant.

EVs & Nature : Bold Nature, Max HP, 216 Def and a little investment in SpD.

Other Options : Foul Play over Hex is an option, definitely helps against things like SD Scizor however Hex is a lot more consistent overall. Takes advantage of Malignant Chain secondary effects and wins the duel against Tera Steel Zamazenta.

darkrai.png

1743139205210.png
1743139299226.png
1743139372001.png

Darkrai @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Bad Dreams
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse
- Focus Blast
- Nasty Plot

Roles :
Wallbreaker

Item : Heavy-Duty Boots makes it immune to hazards which lets it enter the field freely.

Tera Type : Tera Ghost for Fighting and Extreme Speed immunity.

Moves : Ice Beam hits Lando/Tusk/Gliscor and threatens all of them of an OHKO. Dark Pulse, classic. Focus Blast to threaten and hit Weavile/Gambit/Samurott-Hisui/Garganacl. Nasty Plot takes advantage of passivity.

EVs & Nature : Timid Nature, Max SpA and Max Speed.

Other Options : Sludge Bomb and Tera Poison can be run over this (to hit Clef notably) but from my experience Focus Blast was more convenient. Also makes the duel against Blissey winnable.

kyurem.png

1743140715662.png
1743140799923.png
1743140873163.png

Kyurem @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 24 HP / 252 Atk / 232 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Scale Shot
- Icicle Spear

- Tera Blast

Roles :
Wallbreaker / Sweeper

Item : Loaded Dice makes Icicle Spear and Scale at least 100 BP.

Tera Type : Tera Ground lets it hit steels and makes it immune to Twave.

Moves : Classic DD set with Tera Blast.

EVs & Nature : Adamant Nature, Max Attack, 232 Speed and a little of HP investment.

Other Options : Tera Fire and Tera Electric also work quite well, to be completely honest Ground just looked like the most consistent to me.

zapdos-g.png

1743142140833.png
1743142970272.png
1743143230989.png

@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Defiant
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Close Combat
- Brave Bird

- Dual Wingbeat

Roles :
Speed Control / Ground Immunity / Sucker Punch resist

Item : Choice Scarf Galarian Zapdos outspeeds the entire tier bar Scarf Meow and Enam.

Tera Type : Tera Ground can help if you run in some trouble against Raging Bolt.

Moves : U-Turn for pivoting. Close Combat and Brave Bird are self explanatory. Dual Wingbeat catches off guard Ribombee leads.

EVs & Nature : Jolly Nature, Max Attack and Max Speed.

Other Options : Probably the most optimal set.

You've got to be very aggressive. As you may have already noticed the team is very weak to the fairy type, which means you've got to be cautious with Pecharunt and try to pressure your opponent as much as possible, overwhelm them so that they don't have the opportunity to punish you. Measure risk and reward, sack mons when necessary to ensure you get back the momentum. Seize every chance of setup you get. When you watch the replays you'll understand what I'm talking about.

:dragapult:When you see Pult always try to lead Gambit and double switch on whatever you think they'll go into.
:roaring moon:Do not let it setup. If it gets 2 DDs you're cooked. Chip it and see what you can do with Tera/priority (Sucker Punch).
:walking wake::venusaur::barraskewda:Weathers in general are problematic which forces you to be aggressive right away, but a well played Gambit can win the game late. Kyurem can also bluff special attacker set and get DDs early on.
:iron moth:It'll always come to pick up a kill and hope raising its SpAtk. If it doesn't Kyurem revenges with Scale Shot and if it does then you'll have to burn Tera.
:gholdengo::enamorus:Both Specs and Scarf have a really good matchup, which is why you should always try to have the momentum on your side. Don't give them opportunities.
:tinkaton:More of an annoying mon tbf, especially with balloon. Garchomp can deal with it. They love to click Twave so you have to manoeuver correctly against them.
:weavile::darkrai:Also threats but if you pressure enough they should not get opportunities to come in freely.
:raging bolt:You've got to keep at least one of Kyurem/Garchomp alive which deal with them/forces Tera.
:primarina:Annoying. They usually lead with it when they see their matchup so leading Pech will usually force them out.
:deoxys-speed:Can hit everyone. Lead Kyurem when you see this, lives every hit and kills/heavily damage it.

Like this team a lot but whats the gameplan vs stall?
Peep the replay section, but to be succinct, stall usually likes to lead with Gliscor and click protect so you’d lead Darkrai, free nasty plot, you can even get another one as Blissey is coming on, here’s the calcs :

+2 252 SpA Darkrai Focus Blast vs. 4 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 314-370 (48.1 - 56.7%) -- 89.1% chance to 2HKO

+3 252 SpA Darkrai Focus Blast vs. 4 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 392-462 (60.1 - 70.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
