[OVERVIEW]
Politoed manages to find a small niche due to its unique access to Drizzle, which makes it a staple on rain teams. Drizzle allows Politoed to facilitate Swift Swim sweepers like Kingdra, Ludicolo, and Drednaw, while also enabling Hurricane and Thunder users like Tornadus and Heliolisk. As a rain setter, Politoed is able to provide some supportive tools to the table, namely Encore and Toxic, that allow for its devastating team mates to find more opportunities to wreak havoc. However, outside of setting rain, Politoed is a rather underwhelming bulky Water-type that doesn’t provide much practicality over other Water-types outside of setting rain. Politoed is very passive, meaning that it will often times end up as a momentum sink. In addition to this passivity, Politoed lacks any reliable recovery, meaning that even its reliability as a rain setter can end up somewhat questionable, as its presence can be easily abused by Pokemon like Suicune and Reuniclus.

- Encore makes Politoed less susceptible to being exploited by setup sweepers and helps deal with Pokemon like Reuniclus, Milotic, and Suicune that would otherwise wall it.
- Toxic, in tandem with Encore, allows Politoed to wear down walls like Gastrodon and Suicune.
- Ice Beam allows Politoed to OHKO Noivern with the given Special Attack investment while also granting it a way to hit Celebi.
- Rest gives Politoed much appreciated longevity, allowing it to set up rain multiple times throughout the course of a match, especially versus more defensively-oriented teams.
