I give this game a 9.0/10.0, for various reasons, which I'm about to share.
The gameplay in Pokemon XD is quite similar to any other Pokemon game, you catch, train, and battle with Pokemon. However, the concept of it all is what's really different and what makes the game sstand out from it's counterparts. In Pokemon Xtra Dimension (which is the full name of the game), Cipher, a criminal syndacate thought to have disbanded 5 years ago in the game Pokemon Colosseum, is back with a new creation, a Pokemon called XD001, that can't be purified. On top of all that, they started making Shadow Pokemon once more. Your goal is to go around the Orre region and snag all the Shadow Pokemon back for Purification using the Snag Machine, a device that takes Pokemon from their trainers. This time around, you have a brand-new gameplay mechanic: The Purification Chamber. The Purification Chamber is a device that uses normal Pokemon to purify Shadow Pokemon. The mechanic of purifying Shadow Pokemon is simple. Once you capture a Shadow Pokemon, it's heart is closed shut, so you can help it open it's heart by putting it in the Purification Chamber, carrying it with you, or giving it cologne. It becomes fun once you get to understanding how everything works!
Many things have returned from the game's predecessor, Pokemon Colosseum. Mt. Battle will be everyone's new favorite training spot, as all new trainers take their spots in the 10 areas of Mt. Battle. The Move Teacher and Move Deleter also reside at the training facility. Earning PokeCoupons has come back in a big way for purchasing merchandise and Realgam Tower with all new games, such as Battle Bingo and Battle Sims. And there are new things too, like how Team Snagem is on your side, and character changes and new characters take their places in the world where you explore.
There really aren't many things I didn't like, besides the fact that the game is extremely time-consuming. The storyline is twice as long and instead of there being 48 Shadow Pokemon, there are 83! Yes, it will fill your Pokedex, but it's very difficult to capture all of them and purifying them all.
Overall, this is a great GameCube and Pokemon game and I highly recommend it to all who will play it!
