Just a thread for anyone to post anything Stadium related! I love getting to talk, and hearing people talk about these games, so.
I love Pokemon Stadium. I feel like that's a pretty uncommon opinion as most people just see it as a battle simulator, but dear lord. I am genuinely addicted to it.

I owned Stadium 1 growing up as a kid, but never the GB games, so the GB Tower and Oaks Lab always taunted me. it truly is an incomplete game without the GB games frankly, and I hardly ever played it, unless I wanted to play minigames with friends.
However, back in 2020 I believe, I got my first GB Pokemon game, Pokemon Crystal. I was in love with it! The Johto games had always been my favorite. Heartgold being my first Pokemon game, and playing GSC to death on my 3DS, I was stoked to finally be able to play it on my Gameboy! But then I remembered, "Hey, can't I play this on my TV???" and started furiously looking for a copy of Stadium 2 & a Transfer Pak, and it was probably one of the BEST purchases I ever made.

What started out as just a way to play my GB Pokemon games in bed on my TV with a backlight slowly turned into an outright obsession. Getting mystery gift, storing my items, storing my Pokemon, trading between my games when I eventually got Gold & Blue for exclusives & evolutions, and eventually using my teams against the battle facilities, it was amazing! I couldn't stop playing it, and I've hardly played any other Pokemon games since!

Normally I don't like resetting my Pokemon games because I don't like losing my Pokemon, but Stadium easily allowed me to bypass that by just storing them in the cartridge! It has truely been a massive QoL for playing gen 1&2, as well as serving as an amazing postgame of sorts, especially for RBY!

I will admit, though. I still havent "beaten" either Stadium game. I have yet to actually beat all of Round 1 in either (although I have become very close). I've beaten the Gym Leader Castle in both, and most of the Stadiums except for the Prime Cup, and thats mostly due to me getting the urge to start a new save file, and not committing to training up any lv100 mons to actually take on the Prime Cup.

But yeah, I really do enjoy the QoL features it adds. Being Pokemon Home like 20~ years before Home existed is honestly really cool, being able to speed up RBY with the Doduo & Dodrio Tower, being able to use Mystery Gift without knowing anybody with a GBC, or owning two GBCs yourself, trading with your friends, or yourself, if you only have 1 GB or no link cable, being able to use the move relearner, and obtaining prize Pokemon as a reward for battling in the facilities, and even smaller things like being able to see the Pokedex through stadium, along with encounter locations, seeing your Pokemon in 3D with their unique color tints based on their nicknames, and the attempts to patch notorious glitches from the GB games battle systems (like the 1/256 glitch) to make battling more polished, it just adds so much more life to RBY & GSC as a postgame, they really are an amazing piece of software.

Does anyone else also feel as strongly about Stadium, or am I just a weirdo?

Please, feel free to share anything about Stadium here! Your teams, gameplay updates, glitches, opinions, and generally anything regarding these glorified pieces of software! I would love to see some discussion about Stadium!

And I'mma give you an extra piece of advice if you really want some extra replayability.

The ITEM box in Stadium isn't locked to IDs, so you can get a Fresh Water early and open up Saffron as soon as you get to Cerulean.

That's a game-changer for the Stadium Cups since you can also get a bunch of mons and TMs earlier that way.

The Stadium games are some of the best games in the franchise

RBY Stadium does segregate items by the ID number of the player who deposited them, and only has room for 4 different players to have items deposited. Handing off drinks doesn't work there--you need Stadium 2, which offers a combined "Color Case" for all connected RBY games to use for item storage, so that one game can deposit the drink and the other can take it out.

This one, yes.

Thanks for the correction.

How had I never thought of this before. Like, I would deposit my items into the Stadium 2 Color Case before deleting the save files, but I never thought about doing this! I need to replay RBY and do this :0

Wow, I never noticed! I had used Stadium 2 to trade items with other saves a few times, but I havent used Stadium 1 for this too much. I never even noticed it had this restriction!
What happens if a 5th player attempts to deposit an item? Does the game just refuse and not allow that player to deposit it?

Oddly enough it was my very first pokemon game, I had it and played it a lot before I even knew about the actual games.
Same omg!! They had it at a daycare I went to a lot as a child, and everyone would typically play the mini-games, but I was always the one kid who liked challenging the Gym Leader Castle and the Stadium Cups lol
However, it was pretty used, and when I got my first Pokemon game, it was on DS, but I had no clue lmao

This scenario is also pretty much how I was introduced to mons proper, though it was along with the other N64 games which were arguably more engaging, but I think it might have influenced me to start playing from Gen 1 on emulator out of familiarity. Minigames were popular but I fondly remember free battles making rental teams with mons just based on "coolness" like the legendary birds or Eeveelutions, with no regard to knowing the mechanics or actual meta moves. With the singleplayer I mainly remember seeing people try to beat the E4 since the file was already cleared up to that point, but never really making that much progress, getting past one or two fights was memorable enough, not even knowing about round 2 or the other cups other than that sliver of gameplay or how infamous the whole game was. I also didn't actually know about the announcer's existence until later from youtube because the setting was already turned off. I don't think the game itself has really left an impact on me recently beyond that, but it was certainly a strong first impression of the series, being in 3D and all. So there's a bit of hyperspecific nostalgia you've inadvertently unearthed.

Also I shared this in another thread recently, but here's a writeup/visualizer on the name hue system that's somewhat relatively recent, at least to Stadium's release... I see now the original thread was in early 2020. Time flies.
