Mareanie is a great defensive pivot capable of checking many common offensive threats like Mienfoo and Pawniard due to its typing and Regenerator. Iron Defense can shut down physical attackers like Mienfoo, Vullaby, and Stunky, and it also helps against sweepers like Shellder. Tera Dragon provides Mareanie valuable resistances against Electric- and Grass- types like Snivy and Hisuian Voltorb.

Teammates like Gastly and Snivy enjoy having Mareanie switching into Stunky for them. Mareanie can be easily exploited by Electric-types like Hisuian Voltorb and Elekid, so it is helpful to have teammates like Snivy and Chinchou. Mienfoo and Mareanie pair well together to scout the move Hisuian Growlithe is Choice-locked into for each other while both taking advantage of Regenerator. Dark-types like Vullaby, Pawniard, and Stunky can be very helpful to take advantage of Gothita trying to trap Mareanie.

Mareanie is an excellent great defensive pivot capable of checking many common offensive threats like Mienfoo and Timburr Pawniard due to its typing and Regenerator. (Clarfiying what type of pivot it is and changing Timburr to Pawniard since Timburr isn't that common right now) Surf and Sludge Bomb consist a good STAB combination that threatens foes like Hisuian Growlithe, Trapinch, Hisuian Voltorb, and Snubbull from hard switching into Mareanie and taking advantage of it. (These are straightforward STABs so no need for this) Iron Defense can shut down physical offensive Pokemons attackers like Mienfoo, Vullaby, and Stunky, and it also helps against foes sweepers like Shellder and Magby which are common in hyper offensive teams. (I don't think ID helps much against Magby) Tera Dragon provides Mareanie valuable resistances against Electric- and Grass- types like Snivy and Hisuian Voltorb.

Teammates like Hisuian Growlithe, Gastly, (RC) and Choice Scarf Snivy enjoy having Mareanie absorbing Knock Off switching into Stunky for them. [add period] , and in return, they can give Electric-types like Hisuian Voltorb and Elekid a hard time. (Expanded on these points for clarity. Also moving Snivy checking electric types to the next sentence) Mareanie can be easily exploited by Volt Switch users like Elekid Electric-types like Elekid and Hisuian Voltorb, so it is helpful to have teammates like Snivy or another Regenerator user like Mienfoo Chinchou. (Mienfoo doesn't like switching into Elekid because of Psychic, so I'm changing this mention to Chinchou) The latter Mienfoo can also help Mareanie scout the move Hisuian Growlithe is choice-locked into.
