Ok So, This is my first Post on these forums. I've been Following Smogon for around 3 years now and I finally decided I'd sign up on the forums. Recently, I've loved using Creativity in battling (Sometimes I steal Creative Idea's from People but my point remains) and one day I came across Greninja. I wondered what I can do with this Besides the standard Special Attacker set or even the Uncommon lead Hazard Setter. Then I made this team based around Physical Greninja.
Greninja (F) @ King's Rock
Trait: Protean
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Fling
- Power-Up Punch
- Acrobatics
This is really the only working Physical Greninja set I could find and yet it still needs alot of Support though it can be a great Late Game sweeper. First you use Power-Up Punch one or two times to boost the attack stat, Kings rock also gives the ability to flinch. Then you use Fling to Get rid of your item (Always causes the opponent to flinch) and finnaly you're open to use Acrobatics with base 110 Power and STAB boost. Waterfall is just there for coverage, It also has 20% Flinch rate which is what this set rely's on alot.
Raichu (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: StaticEVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Nuzzle
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
Next comes Raichu, a very underrated Pokemon. Apparently this gen it had a Minor speed boost therefor making it now faster than Pikachu. This Pokemon is all about Crippling fast threats to the team, Focus Sash also giving it the ability to take out Threats to Greninja such as Talonflame. Nuzzle is basically Thunderwave as its base power is not nearly high enough to do very much damage (Unless SE), So it plays the same roll. You can use whichever you perfer. The rest of its set basically needs no explanation. Volt Switch, Thunderbolt for Attacks and Hidden Power Ice for Coverage.
Mawile (F) @ Mawilite
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Sucker Punch
- Fire Fang
- Iron Head
- Substitute
Next we have our Mega for the team, Mawile. While very Powerfull I feel that Swords Dance is very Unnecessary, So I perfer Substitute. I really have no idea how to Explain the usage of Mawile other than the fact that he is a strong Powerhouse and a Great sweeper, So I'll end here.
Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
Chansey is the Special wall of this team, It really works wonders against threats to Greninja such as most Electric types. Wish makes a great support move as Chansey's HP is really good and Protect for self Healing. Toxic stall can be really deadly for late game and Seismic Toss for what I see is Chansey's only good Offensive move. Some may argue Blissey is better due to Leftovers, But really when you look at it, Both are just as good as they both have Flaws and Ups. Its all a matter of Preference
.
Aegislash (M) @ Weakness Policy
Trait: Stance Change
EVs: 88 HP / 168 Atk / 252 SAtk
Mild Nature (+SAtk, -Def)
- Shadow Ball
- King's Shield
- Shadow Sneak
- Flash Cannon
Next we have Our Mixed attacker, Aegislash. While in sheild form, It's Defenses are great which leaves it surviving alot of SE attacks, Therefor Weakness Policy boosting both Attack and Special Attack giving Aegislash the availability to Kill on the same Turn. Shadow Ball really Overpowers Shadow Claw which makes the Mixed set a far better set for Aegi than Physical, Flash Cannon has around the same Base power as Iron Head if i'm not Mistaken. So you can use whichever you like. Shadow Sneak as on Every set comes in on the last Moveslot as the Priority Revenge Killing move.
Mandibuzz (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Overcoat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Foul Play
- Toxic
- Roost
- Defog
Finnaly we have the final Member and one of the most important members, Mandibuzz. Mandibuzz plays as my Defogger, My Physical Wall and my Set-up Killer. While from what I've noticed, DD Dragonite is more popular now, Foul Play really counters it well, Dragonite is also a threat to Greninja so Obviously Foul Play is usefull Here. There are also alot of other Set Up killers that threaten Greninja but I wont Mention them all. Toxic Stall is like I said before, Really deadly for late game. Defog takes out Hazards that Threaten Grenina (We want to keep him as high health Possible) and Roost is for Healing. Mandibuzz is very Bulky, Has decent defensive typing and is Immune to Sandstorm which is very great for the current Meta.
This concludes my team Preveiw. Please reply telling me your opinions on the team, Telling me advice that could possibly be helpfull to me and anything else you may need to say.
I also may need to mention that I havent recently been playing on the Pokemon Showdown simulator as I have been more activly using Pokemon Online (Mainly due to friends that also use PO over Showdown). I say this as the Meta on PO is probably diffrent slightley then on PS. Even though the tiers are very similar atm.
