NEW MOVES //

triple axel - a consecutive three-kick attack that becomes more powerful with each successive hit.
coaching - the user properly coaches its ally pokémon, boosting their attack and defense stats.
skitter smack - the user skitters behind the target to attack. this also lowers the target's special attack stat.

NOTABLE MOVES //

• u-turn
• close combat
• ice beam
• poison jab
• rapid spin
• drill run
• throat chop
• focus blast
• bug buzz
• shock wave
• high jump kick (is the 10 extra bp over closoe combat even worth it when high jump kick comes with the risk of crash damage forcing an early exit for pheromosa ?_?)

PHEROMOSA ANALYSIS //

pros:
• second-fastest unboosted threat in ou with a base 151 spe, only trailing behind regieleki - this blistering speed gives her the potential to revenge kill threats and clean up late-game with relative ease
• astounding 137 / 137 base offenses complement pheromosa's blistering speed beautifully, which makes switching into her a daunting prospect for most mons out there
• stab u-turn lets pheromosa choose what to fight and get almost free chip on enemies she'd rather not deal with
• can choose what she wants to break through with the proper coverage move
• beast boost is a phenomenal ability that lets pheromosa snowball hard after getting even one ko - at +1 spe with a naïve nature, the only threats outpacing her are unburden hawlucha and anything faster; which are few and very far between

cons:
• about as frail as a wet paper bag
• no boosting moves aside from quiver dance
• can have some difficulty dealing with common fat cores like clefable + the pex - strong breakers are key to making pheromosa shine even more
• cannot muscle past certain relevant mons without the appropriate coverage move, thus mandating proper team support to deal with those threats
• all that speed isn't protecting her from the strong priority moves prevalent in ou
• can be vulnerable to chip without heavy-duty boots and can lack a bit of power without life orb - the old conundrum of power versus some longevity is ever-present with pheromosa
slower than regieleki lol

pheromosa @ life orb / heavy-duty boots | beast boost
naïve | 252 atk / 4 spa / 252 spe
• u-turn
• close combat
• ice beam
• poison jab / rapid spin / drill run / throat chop

don't let pheromosa's lissome appearance fool you. she's a brutally strong and lethal pivot + late-game cleaner, and this set is the best way of putting all of her strengths to full force. the first three moves give pheromosa the ability to rock most of the tier hard while being able to pivot out to a more favorable match-up if she faces off against a threat that she cannot deal too much damage to. ice beam, even with the minimal ev investment, is still strong enough to bust through quite a few relevant targets (see: landorus, naganadel, chomper, dragapult, the nidos) that her stab moves don't deal too well with. the last move is the most flexible slot for pheromosa. poison jab gets the nod first thanks to it giving pheromosa a strong move to break past fairies (e.g.: tapu koko, tapu lele, clefable) that may stand in its way after a minimal amount of chip damage. meanwhile, rapid spin has pheromosa sacrifice potentially strong coverage in exchange for the ability to provide extremely useful utility in clearing hazards that may be set on the user's side of the field (esp. when used alongside heavy-duty boots). drill run and throat chop are more niche options that enable pheromosa to deal a hefty amount of damage to the pex and aegislash, which normally wall pheromosa's other moves with ease. drill run lets pheromosa hit both + gengar with one move while throat chop lets pheromosa target aegislash and other annoying ghosts. life orb and heavy-duty boots form a small power versus longevity conundrum for pheromosa. other items worthy of consideration include choice band and choice scarf. this pheromosa set fits best on pretty much any teams that appreciate having a strong anti-offense measure that can also take advantage of the momentum that pheromosa can establish.

radio statica (quiver dance) //
pheromosa @ life orb / focus sash | beast boost
modest / timid | 252 spa / 4 spd / 252 spe
ivs: 0 atk
• quiver dance
• focus blast
• ice beam
• bug buzz / shock wave

for the more enterprising player, pheromosa can also run a quiver dance set and sweep late game. while nowhere near as good as it used to be in the early sm metagame (s/outs to there being no z crystals in this generation tbh), this set can still do quite a bit of work if given one free turn. the listed moves are pretty much every good special move pheromosa gets + the obligatory quiver dance. focus blast + ice beam are pretty much mandatory for this set while the last move is more split. bug buzz gets the first nod in the last slot thanks to it granting pheromosa access to a strong, consistent stab move that she can spam without fear of missing, but shock wave is a more-than-usable alternative move due to its ability to strike threats that resist the combination of ice beam + focus blast (most notably the pex and primarina) for effective damage, in spite of shock wave's low base power. this set fits best on hyper offensive teams that can chip away at this set's checks + counters and pave a way for pheromosa to sweep. screens support is especially appreciated to give pheromosa some semblance of bulk, which in turn can help it get a turn to set up and survive attempts at revenge killing. modest + beast boost gives pheromosa a pseudo-moxie for its special attack stat while timid can be used if speed is deemed more important. life orb obviously grants more power while focus sash is worth considering for teams with ways to consistently keep hazards off their side of the field.

This is my favourite heavy offence core from the beginning of SM OU and it’s back baby! Basic premise is lead Exca sets rocks and spins so that that Phero’s sash is preserved. Phero can use the sash to either serve as a psuedo scarf vs Regileki, Scarf Lati, or smth it can’t KO in one hit, or (more likely) it uses it to boost to +1 or +2 safely before pwning its opponent with Bug Buzz. Use it with a third nuclear Sash mon and you get Sash spam HO.

HDB + Rapid Spin is a god set for dealing with Webs / Hazards on HO. This thing forces so many switches that it gets a great opportunity to remove hazards.

PHEROMOSA ANALYSIS
Cons:
• about as frail as a wet paper bag
• all that speed isn't protecting her from the strong priority moves prevalent in ou
What is really scary is that Pheromosa isn't even that frail with 71/37/37 "bulk"; look at this calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Rillaboom Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa in Grassy Terrain: 255-300 (90.1 - 106%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 171-202 (60.4 - 71.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 255-301 (90.1 - 106.3%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Adaptability Crawdaunt Aqua Jet vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 252-299 (89 - 105.6%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 163-193 (57.5 - 68.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (keep in mind that Aegoslash was nerfed this generation)
252+ Atk Choice Band Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 244-288 (86.2 - 101.7%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO (nobody runs Aegi with a Band, but it shows the "bulk" o Pheromosa towards priorities)
252 Atk Choice Band Lycanroc Accelerock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 193-228 (68.1 - 80.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Urshifu Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 183-216 (64.6 - 76.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Entei Extreme Speed vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 282-332 (99.6 - 117.3%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 250-294 (88.3 - 103.8%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pheromosa: 287-338 (101.4 - 119.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
• can be vulnerable to chip without heavy-duty boots and can lack a bit of power without life orb - the old conundrum of power versus some longevity is ever-present with pheromosa
slower than regieleki lol
Pheromosa is not a sweeper that is able or it has to OHKO threats from full HP.
It is also neutral to SR.
Pheromosa is a very strong cleaner that outspeeds base 84 Spe Scarfers (if 252+ Spe) and kills weakened threats with the wide movepool available.

Protective Pads has also made a wave with physical pheromosa sets, to avoid rocky helmet chip from toxapex/ getting statused by the birds.
