intro
i wanted to build around chesnaught so i made this team lol it feels pretty okay
chesnaught has a quite good ability in the current meta- let's look at moves bulletproof blocks:

shadow ball - allows you to pivot into choice-locked dragapult and gholdengo
pyro ball - sits on mono pyro-ball cinderace sets
sludge bomb - allows you to pivot into amoonguss, av pex

other useful moves blocked: aura sphere, bullet seed, energy ball, focus blast (rock blast, seed bomb, weather ball)

additionally, chesnaught has a pretty good matchup into most kingambit sets which is quite useful

teambuilding process
:chesnaught:
i love chesnaught he's so cool
:chesnaught: :toxapex: :cinderace:
tried building a "fire/water/grass" core i've never really used one before, av toxapex deals with a majority of special threats in the tier and cinderace provides a lot of utility: spreads burns, pivots, redundant hazard control with tusk
:chesnaught: :toxapex: :cinderace: :great tusk:
gotta use the goat
:chesnaught: :toxapex: :cinderace: :great tusk: :hydreigon:
hydreigon provides another wincon, a ground immunity, and a pivot into certain choice locked mons
:chesnaught: :toxapex: :cinderace: :great tusk: :hydreigon: :slowking:
tested a lot of shit here like gholdengo, slowbro, even cyclizar but slowking provides a regen core with toxapex and my interesting (read: kind of shit) set provides another way to beat stall which i wanted to make sure i had

team:

i started out with a subseed iron defense body press set, and while it runs over games and sits on garg it was ultimately a bit too matchup fishy to be actually good i think - i swapped out substitute for spikes, and i felt like i needed instant recovery to actually have this mon be useful as a wall so i swapped out leech for synthesis

this mon is a good physical wall and late game wincon - pivot into one of your regen mons first and then come in on this when safe to do so, during early game when you come in you can just heal up or get a spike off
chesnaught really likes having lefties so try hard not to get this knocked off, be careful bringing this into tusk and only do it if you have to

calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Dragapult Dragon Darts (2 hits) vs. 228 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 162-192 (43.3 - 51.3%) -- approx. 2% chance to 2HKO

standard av pex this comes in on pult, ghold, hatt, moth, dirge, volc, wake
bring this in to scout and pivot, bring it in to trap fat mons with infestation and kill them
acid spray lets you beat other pex's without acid spray

1684257127695.png

bulky ace is another answer to kingambit - you are always guaranteed to get a wisp off on it which makes dealing with it much easier for tusk and chesnaught
wisps help against other physical threats too this lives a darts from band pult and gets a wisp off
otherwise, court change serves as hazard control in a pinch and u-turn can either let you bring in hydreigon to try and sweep or just another wall

1684256872335.png

tuskothy is tuskothy u know what it do
oftentimes this is your main switch in to opposing tusks, if you trade one-for-one with the other tusk usually it's a favorable trade for this team
this is also your one time switch in to band pult
you almost always want to be clicking knock or getting rocks up, spinning into a ghost type and losing tempo can cost you the game on the spot

1684257002541.png

np hydreigon can solo a lot of teams late game, dark pulse and earth power feels like good neutral coverage against most mons in the meta which is really all you need once you get a boost
if the enemy does not have a pult or other mon that can break your sub for free, bring this in on something passive sub up get a boost and start firing off hard hits

as a countermeasure to stall i really wanted a:
- regen mon
- and ideally something that can trick

with the absence of torn and glowking this pretty awful set is my solution, this set gets all of its mileage from the fact that nobody is stupid enough to think that you would possibly be running specs on this shit
you get exactly one move to capitalize on your surprise factor so use it well - scout to see their slowking switchin (or make a hard read if you're shiesty, ghold is a common switchin) and blow it up next time
once you fire off your nuke, if you're good one of their mons is dead which means that slowking's job is done; from there you can try to trick something your specs to hamper another one of their mons

evs are just to do more damage, this set really can't switch into anything so almost always pivot in pex first and then if safe you can bring in slowking
regen core means that against stall you're going to be doing a lot of pivoting between these two

playstyle:
this plays pretty bulky offense, you almost always want to lead ace to pivot out or get a wisp off- scout with your pex, bring chesnaught in when safe to spike up, bring tusk into their tusk to trade

you have a few different win cons:
:hydreigon: nasty plot hydreigon can wipe lategame once they have no pult or valiant, bring it in safely boost up and start attacking - don't be scared to tera to preserve your sub as you nasty plot up, keeping sub alive can win you the game on the spot
:toxapex: :slowking: if your opponent is unable to get hazards up, pivoting between pex and slowking to get more free health is your best bet against stall - pex can slowly trap their mons and take them out while slowking can fire off nukes and try to trick something specs to cripple it - if you think that you need the regen core to win, make sure you keep hazards off at all costs as rocks mean that switching between these two will no longer gain you health
:chesnaught: iron defense body press ended up not actually winning me that many games, but the threat is still there: against physical teams once you start boosting up nothing can kill you and you can safely press your way to victory - this requires that they don't have any ghost types; if you don't think chesnaught will win you the game (most games it will not) just keep it as a physical wall and spiker, hazard stacking can still win you games even if ironpress doesn't

threats:
:garchomp:
mixchomp/chainchomp ruins this team you need to lead ace into it and get a wisp off so that you can start pivoting around it, burn dracos with pex and let it chip itself out
:dragapult:
banded pult darts 2hkos most mons on this team, you're going to need to burn tera on either hydreigon to kill it or chesnaught so that it can sit on it
:volcarona:
tera ground means that pex is probably not a counter to this set (unless you predict and tera? you gotta be real shiesty to do this) so you will need to burn tera on slowking predicting a giga drain, if they have bug buzz as well it's probably over
:kingambit:
max speed tera fairy tera blast ruins chesnaught unless you predict and tera (see a pattern here? tera is very interesting) and thus it will sweep your whole team, once it reveals tera fairy bring ace in first to wisp it then you can try to tera with tusk and beat it
:dragonite:
banded dnite also dents this team very heavily, again burn a tera (steel/fairy for outrage) and keep hazards up to chip it down
:baxcalibur:
bax requires that you burn tera on chesnaught to get an iron defense off and then you beat it, once you burn tera if they switch out you cannot let it come back in for free or you will probably lose

conclusion:
i think this team is actually not that good but i cracked 1800 for the first time so i wanted to make a writeup anyways
u-turn on cinderace can probably go for something better and im still not sure wtf to do about the slowking slot, but regen cores are so nice to have and make playing the game much easier
HOME waiting room i guess
