Tinkaton hat sich zwar schon seit einiger Zeit einen Namen im OU-Metagame gemacht. Sein Aufstieg in der letzten Tier-Verschiebungen hat es endgültig als Stütze des Tiers bestätigt. Es ist versiert darin, gefährliche Gegner wie Darkrai, Weavile und mit intaktem Air Balloon sogar Kyurem und Enamorus zu checken. Zusätzlich zu Stealth Rock stört Gegner mit seinen disruptiven Werkzeugen wie Encore, Thunder Wave und Knock Off. Setup-Sweeper wie Raging Bolt und Kingambit, Entry Hazard-Kontrolleure wie Corviknight und Cinderace und Walls wie Moltres, Zapdos und Ting-Lu gehören zu denjenigen, die durch dadurch stark behindert werden. Die Wahl von Tinkatons Fähigkeit erhöht den Grad seiner Unannehmlichkeiten noch weiter: Pickpocket verbessert besonders sein Matchup in Balance-Mirrors, indem es Angriffe von Heavy-Duty Boots-Benutzern wie Dragapult, Hisuian Samurott und Weavile bestraft, die ansonsten extrem schwer zu treffen sind, während Mold Breaker es Gholdengo, Garganacl und Hatterene lahmlegen lässt, wobei es gegen letzteres sogar Stealth Rock einsetzen kann. Mit Tera-Geist kann es Great Tusk und Iron Treads spinblocken, während es in Verbindung mit Encore als Notfall-Check für Zamazenta dient.
