After seeing the OU Rain Team, I was inspired to do the same but with a Sunny Day team. I have since tested it to moderate success, but am considering the swap for Crobat over Swampert in the lead position to have a Sunny Day helper that can Roost off damage to set up multiple times, and since it is faster, be able to Taunt.
Swampert @ Leftovers
252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed
~ Stealth Rock
~ Earthquake
~ Ice Beam
~ Roar
Swampert is a great lead and teammate to have, since even under the sun, it can handle opposing Fire types with STAB Earthquake (Water is halved), as well as Steel types that resist Grass moves.
Roar works well when facing a set-upper, and works in conjunction with Stealth Rock, while its other 2 moves provide great coverage.
By using Swampert, I am bluffing that my team is more standard, while still providing my team key Fire, Steel, Rock, and Electric resistances. Swampert also helps check Tyranitar which would otherwise give my team more problems.
Swampert also helps to deal with Zapdos... alot.
Crobat @ Heat Rock / Leftovers
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly
~ Sunny Day
~ Super Fang
~ Taunt / U-turn
~ Roost
Crobat makes a great switch-in when I predict a Grass attack, as does Heatran and even Victreebel, so Swampert's weakness is more than adaquately covered.
Taunt is ideal for use in the lead position, but for now I have been using U-turn to great success. U-turn is especially helpful on Tyranitar and Abamasnow switch-ins, so i can switch out to a counter while dealing super effective damage.
I figured carrying Heat Rock is probably more beneficial, but Leftovers can be an option if need be since Crobat will be Roosting off the damage, and needs all the recovery it can get in due to the heavy hitters of OU.
Taunt also works great when dealing with Softboiled / Wish Blissey.
Victreebel: @ Life Orb
252 Atk / 144 SpA / 112 Spe
Naughty
IVs: 29 HP IVs = 299 HP, for Life Orb. Hidden Power Fire still rests at 69 power, or 103 under the sun.
~ Leaf Blade
~ Sucker Punch
~ Swords Dance
~ Hidden Power Ice
This is the Victory Bell set I made myself for NU, UU, and OU play, except I made the Hidden Power Ice since I am packing Heatran, Salamence, and Rotom-H with a Fire move. It works surprisingly well, and since most players have never faced a Victreebel in OU, they have a hard time knowing what moveset Victreebel will be packing, and even showing surprise when Victreebel uses Sucker Punch.
With this set Victreebel is able to reach 204 Speed without sunlight, or 407 under the sun, outpacing Scarf Heracross, Scarf Rotom appliances, +1 Dragon Dance Kingdra, etc. With Sucker Punch, Victreebel can still revenge kill threats without sunlight, and can hit faster Scarfed threats like Latias, Azelf, and Gengar for strong super effective damage. Leaf Blade will deter both Sandstream weather changers from switching in.
Here is a list of common 1hkos after a Swords Dance Sucker Punch or Leaf Blade: Rotom appliances, Tyranitar, Celebi, Starmie
2HKOs after Swords Dance Leaf Blade: Gliscor, Flygon, Gyarados [Intimidate factored in]
Hidden Power Ice will 1-2hko [depending on their build]: Gliscor, Dragonite, Salamence, Flygon
I personally perfer Victreebel over Tangrowth because of it's higher Attack, Sucker Punch, and better Speed. Victreebel also absorbs Toxic Spikes.
Like Swampert, and Rotom-H, Victreebel adds to my Electric resistance, which helps Crobat alot.
Heatran @ Leftovers
Timid
6 HP, 252 Spe, 252 SAtk
- Substitute
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower
- Toxic
- Earth Power
Heatran was a must for this team, in order to absorb not just its many resistances, but also Fire Attacks (including W-o-w).
Heatran is able to Toxic Stall behind its bulky Substitutes and plethora of resistances, while Earth Power allows it to hit the opposing Heatran that think they can switch in safely.
I am concerned whether I should put EVs into HP, and switch out Fire Blast for Flamethrower due to its low PP. Help me decide.
Rotom-h @ choice scarf / timid/levitate
252 Spe, 252 SAtk, 6 HP
- Overheat
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Trick
Takes Ground, Normal, and Fighting hits, namely Rapid Spin to keep Stealth Rocks on the field. Trick makes it a great Revenge killer, and gives it a way to handle Blissey. Plus, it's nice having a Ground Immune Pokemon without a Stealth Rock weakness.
Counters Starmie, Gengars (avoid Shadow Ball), Azelfs, Metagross, Lucario (watch out for Crunch), Scizor, Forretress, and Gyarados. Checks Latias.
Rotom-H is chosen to remove the need for Hidden Power Fire on Victreebel, and because Overheat's power becomes immense under Sunlight (becoming its strongest attack).
I just worry that without reliable recovery, Rotom will depend too much on Salamence's Wish support. Speaking of Salamence, I am concerned my team doesn't have enough Steels to take on the strong Dragon attacks. Help me revise that.
Salamence: @ Leftovers
252 HP / 180 Def / 76 Spe
Timid
~ Roost
~ Wish
~ Outrage
~ Fire Blast
I really knew Salamence would be perfect for my team, with its resistances, Intimidate, and stats, movepool, etc. but I just didn't know what to do with him. I settled for this set, but I am still not satisfied and fear I need a more powerful offense, yet enough defense to counter Lucario, Metagross, etc. I feel this bulky set, (which outruns Adamant Lucario), is strong enough to take the hits Luc dishes, and scare away the foe with Fire Blast. Outrage is for power that doesn't lower my SpA stat, necessary for Fire Blast, but I am not sure if it's worth it without any investment.
Still, Salamence supports the team with Wish, and weakens physical threats with Intimidate, as well as Metagross with Fire Blast (boosted if sun is up). Salamence pairs perfectly with Heatran, covering eachother's types almost perfectly.
Salamence helps to deal with Lucario, Scizor, Forretress, and Zapdos lacking Hidden Power Ice.
Overall, I tried to cover my team, where Sunny Day is simply a bonus, not a requirement (even for Victreebel), since Salamence, Heatran, and Victreebel's Fire attacks should do enough damage to their specific targets regardless. Additionally, Victreebel still has Sucker Punch to hit foes like Starmie, Gengar, Azelf, & Latias as well as weakened foes for the revenge kill. Crobat's Sunny Day works to help provide a buffer against water attacks for Heatran, as well as a water resistance for the rest of my team, which allows even Victreebel to switch into water attacks from Vaporeon easily, threatening it with a Leaf Blade. Crobat's use should probably be in the front, but I like bluffing a standard team, and then surprising my opponent with a Sunny Day Crobat and a Victreebel. Plus, having Rocks up it a nice bonus.
Swampert @ Leftovers
252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed
~ Stealth Rock
