SS OU OU Quagsire team

Here’s the pokepaste before I get into anything so you can use the team
https://pokepast.es/230c4e694b5a5f89

here is the team as taken directly from showdown, with their explanations. Please note that I am using Quagsire here out of preference. I would prefer to keep Quagsire, changing moves is fine, but I love quagsire
(I made this without viability in mind, picking out what I thought was good moveset and pokemon wise)

Cinderace @ Expert Belt
Ability: Libero
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Gunk Shot
- Court Change
- Pyro Ball
Cinderace provides hazard support and potentially a sweep, it’s expert belt is put there purely because of the coverage being able to eliminate some common defensive types (mainly steel with pyro ball) and it can open up the quad weak Quagsire against grass types.

Rillaboom @ Grassy Seed
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Grassy Glide
- Drum Beating
- Earthquake
- Acrobatics
The grass sweeper with acrobatics for coverage and earthquake to deal with fire and steel. I feel grassy seed is good because it opens up acrobatics and provides a defensive boost.

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Haze
- Recover
- Liquidation
- Earthquake
The quagsire, pretty standard except haze to ruin set up sweepers and liquidation for the 5 base power and defense drop over scald. Also it fires of his better attack stat. Leftovers for the passive recovery so he doesn’t have to recover against little hits like entry hazards or other forms of chip damage

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Air Slash
- Extrasensory
- U-turn
- Dark Pulse
A very offensive tornadus with u turn to keep up chip damage and momentum, other then that mainly coverage with a emphasis on flinches, with this all out attacking set, assault vest made sense

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Seismic Toss
- Substitute
- Soft-Boiled
Felt the team was a little to offensive for my playstyle, so I added blissy to get some special bulk and aromatherapy to help against status, other than that, basic blissy set, sorta, with leftovers so I don’t have to heal off chip like u turn or stealth rock.

Ferrothorn @ Normal Gem
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Explosion
- Flash Cannon
While this seems counter intuitive with court change, explosion boosted by the gem is a great way to scuicide so they can’t spin.

please rate myteam, I’m low/middle ladder looking to get to top 500 (also note I’m on mobile so these might be shorter then three lines, but I feel I provided a good explanation)

Hello! There are several corrections that can be made here to the Pokémon sets. There are also mon changes that can be made, but I’m worse at critiquing that so I’ll just focus on the sets for now

First, go heavy duty boots on Cinderace. They prevent you from talking that 25% damage that Cinderace takes when it comes in on rocks due to its typing. I personally use another attacking move over court change, such as high jump kick and sucker punch, but I guess you can still go court change if you really want.

For Rillaboom, the set you have can be made more efficient. Drum beating on rillaboom is redundant as you already have grassy glide, due to the similar power, but grassy glide being better since it has priority. It’s best if you make drum beating swords dance in my opinion, which has great synergy with the grassy glide due to grassy glide being a strong priority move when in grassy terrain, which grassy surge brings. Also, use high horse power over earthquake if you want to use a ground move on rilla, as high horse power is not weakened by grassy terrain while earthquake is. While jolly is nice for outspeeding max speed timid heatran, I personally like having adamant for doing more damage with grassy glide. You’ll outspeed most trans with adamant anyways.

On quagsire make waterfall scald. If you don’t care about speedties with pex, you can change the nature to relaxed for better scald damage. The burn chance scald gives makes it better than waterfall in my opinion. Also for the ground type move make earthquake either high horse power or earth power (if you make it earth power go bold nature) to avoid the decrease in power grassy terrain gives earthquake. I would also personally go toxic over haze but I kind of see the use of haze so up to you.

On Tornadus-T go max speed, or at least enough speed for jolly max speed cinderace in case of emergencies. Go timid as well. I don’t think you need assault vest as you already have bliss, so go heavy duty boots to not take stealth rock damage. The thing with this team is that it doesn’t necessarily need a defogger, as your ferro is running spikes, and many of your mons have boots. Additionally, a defensive mon is present in quag which can answer some of the troublesome mons that torn t has to answer. However, defog is still nice for emergencies and there are some mons defensive torn-t still helps with on your team, such as for better answering kartana. Because of this, I’ll leave the choice of either going offensive or defensive up to you, and have put two versions of the updated team below, the only difference between the two being the tornadus-t set. Either way you go though, change air slash to hurricane (hurricane’s higher power is worth the higher miss rate) and change dark pulse and extrasensory, as these moves hit mostly nothing hurricane doesn’t already hit (pex and the like take around the same damage as they do from hurricane, making the moves not worth running)

On blissey change substitute for either shadow ball (for spectrier if sub), toxic, teleport, or even stealth rocks if you want to free up a ferrothorn move slot. Additionally, you can make bliss heavy duty boots, which is generally (in most cases) regarded as better on blissey than leftovers. I would also go stealth rocks on bliss over aromatherapy to free up a move slot on ferrothorn. Alternatively, you can keep aromatherapy or instead run one of the previous moves mentioned, like teleport.

For ferrothorn’s attacking moves you have the choice between power whip, gyro ball, knock off, and body press. I personally like knock off and gyro ball, but I’ve seen the others as well. Though not an attacking move, thunder wave is nice sometimes as well as an option. Explosion on a defensive mon like ferrothorn is kind of a waste, while flash cannon is worse than gyro ball due to the base power difference and ferrothorn’s attacking stat being better. Since you aren’t running explosion anymore you can go leftovers over normal gem. Since we gave blissey rocks, we can make ferrothorn leech seed over rocks to gain hp back.

I have provided the updated teams below.

Bulky Tornadus-T version: https://pokepast.es/0f4dec52f445f4fd

Offensive Tornadus-T version: https://pokepast.es/ad89a7ce8fde9652

Good luck and hope my corrections helped!
