The combination of Substitute and Calm Mind enables Primarina to be a deadly potential wincon. Substitute protects it from status and Knock Off, allowing it to set up on various passive Pokemon such as Clefable, Seismitoad, and Ferrothorn lacking STAB moves. The given EV spread and a Calm nature allow Primarina to outspeed Adamant Conkeldurr and allow its Substitute to always survive a Moonblast from uninvested Clefable. While Water- and Fairy-type coverage certainly isn't bad, it does leave Haze Toxapex and Power Whip Ferrothorn as major roadblocks. Therefore, an exceptional partner is Salazzle, which is able to poison them with Toxic, allowing Primarina to stall them out. Primarina appreciates Spikes chipping down its checks as they come in, making Ferrothorn a great partner as well, and it provides a decent switch-in to Zeraora to boot. Clefable is another useful teammate, as it provides Primarina with Wish support to keep it healthy throughout the battle and can bring it in safely with Teleport.
