SM OU OU Mega Gyarados

Hi everyone. I am relatively new to competitive Pokemon, although I've been watching popular youtubers for a couple years now. I am usually copying teams from youtubers and try them on my own, but I am looking to improve my teambuilding capabilities.

Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Substitute
This is the Pokemon in which I want to build around. Mega Gyarados is my bulky wallbreaker in which I want to set up a sub on switches and either go for a DD if I can OHKO or go for an attack to damage Pokemons that switches in. I am using earthquake instead of waterfall as it allows me to hurt popular threats such as magearna, pex and rotom wash.

Tornadus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Defog

Since Gyarados is weak to rocks before mega evolving, I need a reliable defogger such as Tornadus T to remove rocks and other forms of hazards. Furthermore, Tornadus is just a great Pokemon overall to pivot from a Pokemon to another to keep momentum, to threat fighting types with stab hurricane or to knock off items upon switch ins. I use rocky helmet to punish Pokemons that u-turn on me.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 128 SpD / 128 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

I like specially defensive Heatran on my teams to toxic Pokemons that want to switch in on me (apart from Heatran, no steel Pokemon would switch in to Heatran if I am correct, maybe assault vest Mag...). Lava plume as a nice chance to burn Physical threats and earth power for coverage on opposing Heatrans. I added Stealth Rock as I don't have any other rockers in my team, but I feel that I don't really need to rely on them as I have 2 fast u-turners that can chip away through the game.

Tapu Lele @ Choice Specs
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Choice Specs Tapu Lele is my special wallbreaker that deals with Pokemons that my Gyarados has trouble with such as Ferrothorn, Tangrowth, Mega Venusaur, Zapdos and slower dragons. I have both Psychic and Psyshock to cover both side of the spectrum defensively and HP fire for coverage (although I could use a different HP as I have Heatran already...).

Tapu Koko @ Electrium Z
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Wild Charge
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Taunt
- U-turn

I decided to run with Physical Tapu Koko with Electrium Z to deal with AV mons such as Magearna, Tyrannitar and HP ice to deal with ground and dragon types Pokemons (weakened Lando-T, weakened Garchomp). Since I want to bring in Koko before setting up my Hawlucha, I run Taunt to then bring in my Hawlucha without being afraid of a will-o wisp or leech seed or Toxic.

Hawlucha @ Electric Seed
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 96 HP / 252 Atk / 36 SpD / 124 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Swords Dance
- High Jump Kick
- Roost

Finally, I have my unburden Hawlucha to clean at the end of battles with Acro and HJK. With the Defense boost, it is quite bulky if at 100% and can take on priority moves such as water shuriken from Ash-Gren, ice shard from Mamo, etc. If I ensured enough chip damage across the enemy team, I can sweep as long as HJK lands.

Now, I know that I have a huge weakness to ground and electric moves as I can't really switch in into Koko. I feel that I could swap Heatran into another Pokemon, but then I would need to find a new rocker (maybe ferrothorn as it is better against ground compared to Heatran, resist electric type moves, toxic, leech seed, gyro ball, rocks).

Thank you for helping me with this team!

P.S. These are all builds from Smogon as my knowledge is not good enough to improvise at this point.

For Gyrados, I would recommend changing substitute to waterfall. It gives way more coverage and a reliable STAB move.

I would also recommend that you do change heatran to ferrothorn. Don't worry about fire, you have tapu lele with hidden power. As for steel, lucha with HJK takes care of ice, but not fairy.

Just a note, but thundurus-t with lightning rod and a flying type takes care of those weaknesses.

Waterfall over Crunch on Mega Gyarados, HP Fire on Tapu Lele is ok, but I strongly recommend using Shadow Ball over Psyshock, also consider putting Focus Blast on it (just on a sidenote) and finally, I strongly recommend Poison Jab, Stone Edge or Ice Punch over Roost on Hawlucha.

But for who would you switch thundurus T for?
