Scald is preferred due to having the chance to cause a burn. U-turn allows Pelipper to pivot out safely and provide a free switch for its rain sweeper teammates such as Mega Swampert and Ash-Greninja. Roost ensures that Pelipper stays healthy throughout the battle, allowing it to switch in and re-set the rain. Defog is useful for getting rid of entry hazards, which are very annoying for rain teams. Alternatively, Hurricane can be used to hit Pokemon like Tapu Bulu and Mega Lopunny super effectively and almost always OHKOes Hawlucha from full health. Finally, Knock Off is useful for removing items like Ferrothorn's Leftovers, Toxapex's Black Sludge, Tornadus-T's Rocky Helmet, Magearna's Assault Vest, and Chansey's Eviolite for its teammates to break more easily.

Set Details
========

The given EV spread maximizes Pelipper's physical bulk, allowing it to take hits such as Mega Lopunny's Frustration and Mega Swampert's rain-boosted Waterfall. Minimum Speed is preferred so that Pelipper can be as slow as possible to let it bring its teammates in much more safely. It also lets it underspeed Tyranitar and the rare Hippowdon so that rain can override the sand in the lead matchup. Alternatively, an EV spread of 248 HP / 36 Def / 224 SpD can be used to allow Pelipper to survive a +2 Acrobatics from Hawlucha and soak up special attacks from Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona more easily.

Usage Tips
========

Pelipper should almost exclusively be used as a lead so that it can set up rain as early as possible and enable its teammates immediately. It is recommended to keep Pelipper healthy for rain teams to function because of its teammates being very dependent on rain to be threatening. Pelipper should also scout for any Electric-type coverage and Z Moves - that could potentially eliminate it such as Thunder Punch from Kommo-o and Continental Crush from Landorus-T. Avoid sacrificing Pelipper unless the remaining rain turns can let its teammates come in and win the game. Pelipper should also be wary of Knock Off, as losing its Damp Rock will heavily limit its rain.

Team Options
========

Mega Swampert is Pelipper's best partner, utilizing rain to fire off boosted Waterfall and outspeed most other Pokemon thanks to Swift Swim. It is a good Stealth Rock setter and has an Electric immunity, which allows it to take Electric-type attacks aimed at Pelipper. Thanks to the rain, Ash-Greninja can activate Battle Bond more easily. Tornadus-T and Tapu Koko love the support from rain, as it can allow them to fire off 100% accurate Hurricanes and Thunders. They can also provide additional momentum with U-turn and pressure bulky teams with Taunt. Additionally, Tornadus-T can check Grass-types like Serperior, Tapu Bulu, and Kartana while also providing Defog support to allow Pelipper to free up a moveslot. Manaphy is a great stallbreaker for rain teams thanks to Tail Glow and Hydration; under the rain, it is immune to status, can heal back up to full health in a single turn with Rest, and blows through even Water-resistant Pokemon such as Tapu Fini with its Tail Glow boosted Hydro Vortex, allowing Mega Swampert and Ash-Greninja to clean up. Ferrothorn provides a much-needed Psychic-resistant teammate; benefits from its reduced fire weakness under the rain; and provides crucial support in the form of entry hazards, status like Thunder Wave, and Knock Off. Alternatively, Kingdra and Crawdaunt can be used to provide additional Swift Swim support and break with Adaptability Knock Off and rain-boosted Crabhammer, respectively, despite being niche options. Magearna is an option for a Steel-type that can bring its teammates in safely with Volt Switch and possesses a valuable resistance to Flying and Dark that most rain teams don't have.

Scald inflicts decent damage under rain and has a good chance of burning the opponent Scald is Pelippers preferred stab option due to being boosted by its rain and having the chance to inflict burn. U-turn allows Pelipper to pivot out safely and provides a free switch for its rain-abusing teammates. (give a couple of examples) Roost ensures that it stays healthy throughout the battle, allowing it to come back in and reset the rain. Defog is useful for getting rid of hazards such as Toxic Spikes which usually greatly annoy rain teams. Alternatively, Hurricane can be used to hit Pokemon like Tapu Bulu, Tangrowth, and (we try to avoid mentioning tangrowth cos it's not meta relevant, i would either say it ohkos kartana or almost always ohkos hawlucha from full) Mega Lopunny super effectively and have a chance to inflict confusion. Finally, Knock Off is useful for removing items like Leftovers, Rocky Helmet, Assault Vest, and Chansey's Eviolite for its teammates to break more easily. (instead of just listing items, it is better to name pokemon and the item it removes which is important like you did with chansey e.g. black sludge from toxapex, ferrothorns leftovers and magearnas assaultvest to give you some more ideas.)

The given EV spread lets Pelipper be as physically tanky as possible. (examples of why it wants to be physically defensive) A Relaxed nature with 0 Speed IVs is preferred so that Pelipper can be as slow as possible so that it can bring its teammates in much more safely. It also lets it underspeed Tyranitar and the rare Hippowdon so that rain can override the sand in the lead matchup. Alternatively, an EV spread of 248 HP / 36 Def / 224 SpD can be used to allow it to survive a +2 Acrobatics from Hawlucha and soak up special attacks from Pokemon like Mega Charizard Y and Volcarona more easily.

Usage Tips

Pelipper is a fine choice as a lead should be lead almost exclusively so that it can set up rain as early as possible and enable its teammates immediately. You should expect a bad matchup for Pelipper and be prepared to switch turn one, however the benefit of having rain set up turn one is usually always worth it. It also does not lose much momentum if it ends up leading against an Electric type. It is recommended to keep Pelipper healthy for rain teams to function or else it will be difficult for its teammates to win the match due to its teammates being very reliant on rain to threaten opposing teams. Pelipper should also scout for any Electric-type coverage and Z Moves that could potentially eliminate it such as Thunder Punch from Kommo-o and Continental Crush from Landorus-T respectively. Keep Pelipper as healthy as possible with Roost so that it can continue coming in safely to reset the rain. (Pretty much already said this earlier) Avoid sacrificing Pelipper unless the remaining rain turns can let its teammates come in and win the game. Pelipper should also be wary of Knock Off as losing its Damp Rock will reduce the amount of rain turns that it can provide for its teammates the next time it sets up the rain.

Team Options

Mega Swampert is Pelipper's best partner, as it provides an electric immunity, sets up Stealth Rock, and can use Swift Swim to allow it to make full use of the rain turns that Pelipper provides utilizing rain to throw off boosted waterfalls before most other Pokemon thanks to swift swim. It also provides a good stealth rock setter and an electric immunity to take electric attacks aimed at Pelipper. Ash-Greninja is another fantastic partner for rain as it can activate Battle Bond more easily and lets its Hydro Pump and Water Shuriken water stab moves inflict a ludicrous amount of damage, especially after its transformation. Tornadus-T and Tapu Koko love the support from rain as it can allow them to fire off 100% accurate Hurricane and Thunder respectively. They can also provide additional momentum with U-turn and pressure bulky teams with Taunt. Additionally, Tornadus-T can check Grass types like Serperior, Tapu Bulu, and Kartana while also providing Defog support to allow Pelipper to free up a moveslot. Manaphy is a great stallbreaker for rain thanks to Tail Glow and Hydration, allowing it to become immune to status under the rain, heal back up to full health in a single turn with Rest, and let its Tail Glow-boosted Hydro Vortex weaken or KO rain checks blow past even resistances to allow Mega Swampert and Ash-Greninja to clean up. Ferrothorn is an crucial incredible partner for rain as it provides a much-needed Psychic resistance, reduces its fire weakness under the rain, sets up Spikes, and provides additional Knock Off support. and provides valuable support in the form of hazards, status like Thunder Wave and Knock Off. Alternatively, Kingdra and Crawdaunt can be used to provide additional Swift Swim support and break with Adaptability Knock Off and rain-boosted Crabhammer respectively, despite being rather niche. (Can you mention magearna being an option for a steel type that also can pivot in rain abusers with volt switch and also provides a valuable flying and dark resist that most rain teams lack.)
