Hello everyone reading this. I‘m back and this is one of my best if not even the best thing I ever achieved in Pokémon so far, which is just absolutely incredible. I‘ve tried climbing the gen 9 OU ladder again and again with, while ok / good success (will talk about this at the end) I never got nearly as far. Now many, if not even all of you might be asking yourselves: “Why would you ever use such a shit mon like :Orthworm: over a complete upgrade in the form of :Skarmory:?“. The reason for that is just a simple bet with Pinkacross himself. After I joined his server (which you should join too, link on the bottom) for a while and had a good time with the community and the community helpers. One of them, Doctor Bognor, for some reason thought :Orthworm: was cool, which I agreed with, because it is just cute. Then he got a crazy idea. We made a bet with Pinkacross , that if we either won one of them with :Orthworm: or got top 25 on the SV OU ladder with :Orthworm:, he would do a stream with this cute Pokémon. Funnily out of all the players in the “Orthworm Council“ I’m the only really competitive player so now I had something to do. At first I tried the tournaments and got 2nd, 3rd and then lost last place to my absolute worst Matchup. I saw quite good success on the ladder with the team I just failed the tournament with. After that I decided to ladder… a lot to get to my all time peak in SV OU of #6 with my boy :Orthworm:.

G.O.A.T. (Orthworm) (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Earth Eater
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Heavy Slam
- Spikes

Firstly the GOAT and absolute star of the Team :Orthworm: himself. He acts like a standart :Skarmory:, setting Spikes, IronPressing opponents, being immune to ground and generally being very tanky. However it has a super super tiny niche nobody will ever occur. Heavy Slam is not only here to clap fairies like :Clefable:, :Hatterene:, :Iron Valiant:,:Enamorus-Therian: and more, which don’t offensively threaten this team tho. or because we can’t run a good move like Roost in the last slot, but mainly to pop :Gholdengo:‘s :Air Balloon:, so :Great Tusk: and :Clodsire: can kill it with their Ground Moves. While :Skarmory: is faster and has access to Roost and Whirlwind as well as higher special bulk, :Orthworm:‘s minimally higher physical bulk has a bit better calcs in some actually quite common scenarios (sometimes). It is very good at Body Pressing through HO Teams, easily defeating Targets like :Roaring Moon:, :Dragonite:, non Cc :Great Tusk:, :Glimmora: and much more. Tera Ghost is to spinblock in a pinch. It walls :Landorus-Therian:, :Great Tusk:, :Gliscor: and :Iron Treads:, as well as non specs and non PP Stall non freezing non Tera Fire Tera Blast (ban this mf) :Kyurem:. Rocky Helmet was chosen due to Leftovers and everything else being dogshit and never being useful but with Rocky Helmet I can punish U-Turns, Ceaseless Edges, Rapid Spins and much more to get general extra chip on mons like :Great Tusk:, :Landorus-Therian: and such.
Possible Changes: Tera Fighting for more Body Press damage and a resistance to Dark.
Hitting a Speed Stat of 176. This makes it possible to outspeed paralyzed :Ogerpon Wellspring:.

Ability: Unaware
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Careful Nature
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Recover

I had originally put him here, because with Max Phys Def he was a good counter vs 4/5 of the unbanned Pokémon in the tournament I was building this team for, however I quickly realised that SpD is much more important and better, due to never using it vs physical attackers and only special attackers. This is just a standard Rocks :Clodsire: with Tera Water to help out mainly vs Sun, but I rarely use it. Rocks on this and Spikes on :Orthworm: was chosen bc I do not want to bring in :Clodsire: again and again to get Spikes up, because Recover PP are very important on it. This Mon is also the GOAT vs HO, clapping Mons like :Iron Moth:, :Iron Valiant:, :Gholdengo: (with :Air Balloon: popped), :Darkrai:, :Raging Bolt:, :Zamazenta:, and more. Tera Water also helps out vs :Primarina: which can be super hard to deal with. Leftovers is really helpful in some 1v1‘s and it doesn’t care about webs and resists rocks, recovering them immediately. Just in general the amount of hits this thing can just eat up is incredible.
Possible Changes: Heavy Duty Boots over Leftovers for the Hazard Stack Mirror Matchup, I prefer Leftovers tho because it can help out in many common 1v1 scenarios.

A month ago I fell in love with the absolutely huge Physical bulk of this thing and the Ability to Pivot with lowering the opponents Offenses via Parting Shot. The primary reason I chose it is because it is a spin blocker, which has much better physical bulk than :Gholdengo: and has a consistent Recovery move unlike :Sinistcha: with the added benefit of Parting Shot. Again a very Standart Tera Dark :Pecharunt: for turning the Ghost and Dark weaknesses into resistances. Hex also functions well with Toxic from :Clodsire: and Thunder Wave from :Slowking:. This huge Bulk lets it 1v1 even scary Threats like :Ogerpon-Wellspring:, :Zamazenta:, :Rillaboom:, :Hawlucha:, :Iron Hands: and much more as well as even being able to tank very powerful super effective attacks with its astronomically high defense. Heavy Duty Boots is so you can switch in much more and Parting Shot much more out. The speed is enough to always outspeed :Kingambit:. This Pokémon is just so fun and easy to use while fitting onto this team super well.
Possible Changes: 1-2 more speed to Malignant Chain stuff that is made to outspeed :Kingambit: so you don‘t speedtie with other mons, that are EV’d to outspeed Kingambit.

Literally just the most Standart :Great Tusk: you can find. Rapid Spin for Hazards control, Knock to remove Items from common switch ins like :Moltres:, :Zapdos:, :Alomomola:, :Corviknight:, :Sinistcha: and more, Ice Spinner for :Dragonite:, :Gliscor:, :Landorus-Therian: and some other stuff and the big damage button Headlong Rush, to deal with Pokémon like :Kingambit:, :Raging Bolt:, :Pecharunt: and Popped :Gholdengo:. Max Speed Jolly and max attack to be as fast and powerful as possible, hdb to make it a far more consistent Hazard remover and Tera steel to catch :Roaring Moon:‘s Acrobatics and generally being a great fantastic defensive Tera Type. It kinda just always works out because at the end of the day it is a :Great Tusk:.
Possible changes: I do not recommend changing anything about this set at all.

I needed an answer to Sun and already had 2 poison Types, so :Slowking-Galar: didn’t really feel like an option. At the time I was also horrified of sun due to losing my last tournament to it, so :Slowking: was just perfect with resisting :Walking Wake:‘s Hydro Steam and access to Chilly Reception. At this point my team was super weak to Psychic Type Attacks too, which :Slowking: unlike :Slowking-Galar: resists. I‘m using my standart :Slowking-Galar: EV Spread here which has been proven to be great for me before. My previously biggest issue was Specs Draco Meteor due to Unaware on :Clodsire: ignoring the SpA Drops which are meant to keep Draco Meteor from being spammable, but Tera Fairy here solves this issue, while also turning dark from a weakness into a resistance and just generally being a fantastic type to tera into. I chose Thunder Wave last, due to me never ever finding scenarios where any other last move would be better. Paralysis is also nice for slowing down threats like :Iron Valiant:, :Samurott-Hisui:, :Ogerpon-Wellspring: and other things that want to freely switch in. Regenerator Water Type and another SpD mon is super useful, so I don‘t constantly have to go into :Clodsire: which isn‘t Heavy Duty Boots. Future sight + :Weavile: / :Orthworm: deals huge damage and usual mons that protect on the Future Sight Turn don’t like a scald burn at all which is very nice for beating up stall. Also being able to abuse Regenerator over :Clodsire:’s precious Recover PP is very nice.
Possible changes: If you prefer you can swap out Thunder Wave for something else, I do not recommend it at all, due to the speed control not being super good and common :Slowking: switch-ins being rendered super bad / worthless when paralyzed. Almost all the common switch-ins aren‘t that nice to deal with either.

Last but not least, Weavile. This incredible power and speed can honestly just be absurd. It gives me another Knocker and Revenge Killer with Ice Shard, as well as the possibility to sweep unprepared teams with Tera Ghost to prevent Body Press from :Zamazenta:, :Skarmory: and :Corviknight: and Extreme Speeds from :Dragonite: as well as Rapid Spin. Triple Axel is just super powerful and Swords Dance makes sweeping possible at all. It all has the added benefit of getting the 1.5x multiplier from Snow due to :Slowking: setting it up with Chilly Reception and it being an Ice Type.

How to play:
Vs Hyper Offense: Vs :Glimmora: Lead use Eq and then set rocks with Clodsire and then go into :Orthworm: to block Mortal Spin. Vs:Ribombee: Lead set rocks and go :Slowking:. Vs :Deoxys-Speed: Lead :Slowking:, Twave and then scald down to OHKO, set up Future Sight before you kill. Vs :Iron Treads: Lead Body Press and Spikes :Orthworm:, after 1 press spam spikes, they die to Rocky Helmet and you always get spikes. Vs :Samurott-Hisui: lead :Orthworm: and Body Press, Rocky helmet + Body Press kills 62.5% of the time. If they live Spikes, if not just play as usual. Vs :Araquanid: lead :Pecharunt: and maybe get poison, Parting Shot afterwards. If you are a lamo lead :Slowking:, klick Thunder Wave and then Spam Parting Shot + Chilly Reception. Their only real switch in will be :Gholdengo: to block the Parting Shot. In this case risk the :gholdengo: Shadow Balling you, if it is :balloon:. You always live 1 Shadow Ball and it is worth it.
:Clodsire: walls every special attacker without Psyshock and you can often just Tera Water it due to rarely needing Tera on Anything else.:Orthworm:also easily 1v1s super many HO mons. In the end try to maybe sweep with :Weavile:. Watch out for :Kingambit:. Headlong Rush + Triple Axel kills no matter the tera.
Vs Sun lead :Orthworm: to counter their counter lead of :Roaring Moon:. Body Press and if they go :Torkoal: / :Ninetales: just Chilly Reception out with :Slowking:. If it is SpA Booster :Walking Wake: :Weavile: will probably sweep. If :Walking Wake: Hits :Slowking: with a Draco Meteor it can very much be worth it to Tera Fairy and paralyze it. Also :Great Tusk: is an OHKO machine in Sun lol.

In this matchup :Great Tusk: is Super good. Always try having spikes up, Body Press works well too. Rocky Helmet + Spikes are great at wearing down :Great Tusk:. Swords Dance :Weavile: can often force a tera, so you should try bating it. Also pivoting with :Pecharunt: is super good for pressuring in this Matchup. Paralyzing can be key, depending on the opposing Pokémon.

Try getting up Spikes and forcing progress with Weavile. In general Hazards are super useful and every Mon can be very useful.

Hazards are the key to success here. :Weavile: can force Knock Offs and huge damage for progress, while you can constantly swap in :Pecharunt: and :Slowking: to pivot around. Try to prevent spinning or heavily pressure them into not doing it. Future sight + Body Press / :Weavile: is. Great at making progress. Try wearing down everything for a :Weavile: sweep if possible.

SD with Weavile Turn 1 on :Gliscor: and then Knock Off something. :Corviknight: can’t switch in because it dies to +2 Knock + Triple Axel. Then get all hazards up. Switch around and pivot a lot to prevent defog via :Slowking: pressuring :Corviknight: with scald. Future Sight + Hazards + Body Press from :Orthworm: / :Weavile: put Stall into a very rough spot. If they often want to protect on the Future Sight turn, instead of switching after Future Sight, Scald them for a possible burn. Tera Ghost :Weavile: will probably be what you tera for Body Press from :Corviknight: and :Dondozo: or for an extra knock or Swords Dance.

Teambuilding Process:
:Orthworm:
First I started off with Orthworm, because that‘s the entire reason I‘m doing this.
:Orthworm: :Clodsire:
Then I added Clodsire because it was a very good Pokemon vs 3/5 of the unbanned Pokémon of the Tournament this Team was for as well as giving me a Phys def + SpD Core as well as a Spikes + Stealth Rock Core.
:Orthworm: :Clodsire: :Pecharunt:
Next I needed a Spin Blocker and I was falling in love with :Pecharunt: at the time so it was an easy pick.
:Orthworm: :Clodsire: :Pecharunt: :Great Tusk:
I wanted a Spinner and :Great Tusk: just always does that job well while also dealing big damage.
:Orthworm: :Clodsire: :Pecharunt: :Great Tusk: :Primarina: :Zamazenta:
Originally I had Primarina for another SpD Mon and a Sun answer due to currently being afraid of sun. I was also running a super SpD :Zamazenta: to answer :Kyurem:. Neither were working at all so I threw them away.
:Orthworm: :Clodsire: :Pecharunt: :Great Tusk: :Slowking:
I still was horrified of Sun and wanted Tera Water :Slowking-Galar:‘s Chilly Reception. Tera was banned tho and :Slowking: is basically Tera Water :Slowking-Galar: so I took it.
:Orthworm: :Clodsire: :Pecharunt: :Great Tusk: :Slowking: :Darkrai:
Next I wanted a speedie Knocker and damage dealer and added Heavy Duty Boots :Darkrai: because I really liked it.
:Orthworm: :Clodsire: :Pecharunt: :Great Tusk: :Slowking: :Weavile:
When adding :Darkrai: I happened to see :Weavile: exists so I made a copy of the team with :Weavile: over :Darkrai:. I only used the :Darkrai: very little and preferred :Weavile: a lot so I went on with it.

Threats:
:Ceruledge:: The Endure Set is super scary because we can’t Ice Shard revenge due to Bitter Blade. Our only real shot is trying to Toxic it with :Clodsire: and sack some Pokémon, but it is still super scary.
:Kingambit:: While we have :Great Tusk: and :Orthworm: :Kingambit: will always be scary, because it is a Kingambit. Try to not let :Great Tusk: and :Orthworm: too chipped and you should be fine tho.
:Kyurem:: This #@%&%§“≠ is so rough to deal with. Freezes everything and Pressure stalls everything. It depends on the set a lot but in general try with either :Orthworm:, :Weavile:, :Clodsire: and Future sight but it‘s super rough. BAN THIS GUY
AV :Slowking-Galar::No switch-ins and super hard to kill. Hazards + Pivoting are key, but poison on :Slowking: is rough but not really avoidable.
:Gliscor:: Bulky SD sets are super hard to kill, especially when they tera. :Orthworm: is only a soft check, even tho Iron Defense with high defense and resisting / neutral from Knock Posison Heal + :Gliscor: is just a fucking tank.
Double Dance :Manaphy:: Removes Status with Take Heart and gets tanky as fuck while dealing huge damage. You often need to sack a mon for knock and Tera Water on :Clodsire: to wear it down.
Bulky Calm Mind Substitute :Primarina:. Can Substitute up on almost everything, tanks so many hits and ist STABs are unresisted while after very few boosts it deals huge amounts of damage. You will most likely just like against :Manaphy: be forced to terastallize :Clodsire: into a Water Type to deal with it.

Conclusion + Shoutouts:
:Orthworm: is funny and cute af but not really competitively viable but will almost every time be inferior to :Skarmory: .The team is super fun tho but not that easy to use. Shoutouts to Doctor Bognor for the Idea, Pinkacross for his fantastic server and the entire fantastic Pinkacord as well, which you should totally join if you want to have a fun time and do some competitive Pokémon stuff as well as participating in monthly tournaments where the game modes are decided by you! https://discord.gg/58xWyNzR I am also very excited to see Orthworm in the 1825+ Statistics lol.

https://pokepast.es/c23d52b211765480 super inconsistent but funny Tera Rock :Iron Boulder: HO Team I hit #30 with
https://pokepast.es/a4f65b7b90bb3d6a Very Fun and easy :Rillaboom: Bulky Offense I hit #81 with.

Thank you for taking a look at my team. I am actually quite happy for basically forcing myself into using :Orthworm:. Making myself use it forced me to think differently and get good at Bulky Balance / Hazard Stack at which I was pretty bad before. Besides that Ireally don’t have anything to say except have a wonderful and have fun with my boy :Orthworm: everyone !

PS: If you have any questions or just in general want to message me, you can do so via E-Mail Wanawa8724@gmail.com, on Discord Sanesa8724#2852 / Wanawa8724, on Smogon, on Pokemon Showdown Sanesa8724 or just on this post. I will answer all comments and add stuff to the RMT if missing (for example: POKEAIM talked about there not being instructions vs :Samurott-HISUI: Lead in the how to counter leads in HO section

GOAT team and GOAT nicknames too... I felt that weavile one in my SOUL

I really like this team, it just seems like it naturally sorta just has a lot of good tools. knock + future sight + hazards for stall, a good kyurem matchup, hazards and removal, blanket fat guys for spdef and pdef, triple status, you really can just play your way out of any situation. obviously skarm would be better but i enjoy orth basically countering physical kyurem sets which can feel uncounterable at times. god help us the day ladder remembers subtect pressure or tblast fire... certified banger team regardless

I wish I could say the „good Kyurem Matchup“ nearly as confident as you. Pressure Stall Kyurem is kinda impossible with the only counter being Weavile, which if the opponent has an answer to that is kinda impossible. Then there’s specs which is just fucking broken and deals infinite damage, as well as Tera fire blast… the list really just goes on and on man. But yeah the team idea is we have defensive walls for basically everything while also having a huge breaking power and quite a lot of different gameplans.
