SV OU Orthonite HO (1400-1500)

“shed tail is only broken on cyclizar it’ll be fine”
-somebody probably

Well, well, well. With the bans to :Chi-Yu:Chi-Yu and :Annihilape:Annihalape (and :cyclizar:cyclizar), I needed a new team. Tried this on ladder (1400ish), went 5-1

I came up with the extremely original idea of shed tail + :dragonite:dragonite. This combo is even better with :orthworm:orthworms slow shed tail.

Here is the team:
https://pokepast.es/442f759b6dc8ac9a

blue blue yellow (Dragonite) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 12 HP / 252 Atk / 244 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Dragon Dance
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake

:dragonite:Dragonite is the star of the show here. With access to dragon dance, and one of the most broken defensive abilities, and great stats and coverage, this mon is a beast. With shed tail support from :orthworm:Orthworm, this mon is crazy. Your substitute also takes half damage when your at full HP, allowing you to get 2-3 d-dances up before multiscale breaks (HDB prevents stealth rock damage). Earthquake and fire punch are coverage, and I am not running dragon claw because I heard it was bad. Tera normal E-speed is standard, but the lack of stab damage hurts a little. EVs are precise to outspeed some specific stuff (I forgot what lol).

beep boop (Orthworm) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Earth Eater
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Shed Tail
- Body Press
- Stealth Rock
- Iron Head

:orthworm:Orthworm is :dragonite:Dragonite’s parter in crime. Shed tail is obvious, stealth rock because I need hazards, body press for damage, and I couldn’t think of another move so iron head. I’m thinking of changing to a -speed nature for even slower shed tails, but not sure.

solar power! (Iron Moth) @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fiery Dance
- Sludge Wave
- Psychic
- Energy Ball

:iron moth:Iron Moth, a new favorite mon of mine to use. Great SpAtk with booster energy and without (but air balloon is okay too) turn it into a mon that can run away with the game due to fiery dance boosts and great speed. Fiery dance is a great move, sludge wave is strong, psychic for fighting types, and tera grass energy ball is for the water/fire types that it is weak to.

don L bozo (Dondozo) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Curse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Wave Crash

I needed more bulk on the team, and :dondozo: dondozo covers both bulk and setup sweeper. Its just a standard curse :dondozo: dondozo set, but wave crash could be swapped out for liquidation, and evs could be changed to be more offensive.

galladavoir (Iron Valiant) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 HP / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball

I wanted RAW FIREPOWER on the team. I’m not running timid:iron valiant:valiant, because this outspeeds everything it needs to already (except other:iron valiant:valiants). Standard moveset, chose tera fairy over tera psychic because tera fairy moonblast is so spammable. Also, I suppose I could use SpAtk Booster Energy for more flexibility.

not my starter (Meowscarada) @ Choice Band
Ability: Overgrow
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flower Trick
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough

:meowscarada:Meowscarada was added to fill the holes in my team (lacking grass and dark types). Sucker punch for :dragapult:pult and other setup mons. Knock off is reliable dark stab, flower trick is great, and chose play rough for final move for fighting.

Changes I might make:
:meowscarada:Meowscarada is easily replaceable. I was thinking either screens:grimmsnarl:grimm to enable:dragonite: dnite and:iron moth:moth, or hazard control such as:hatterene:Hatterene or :great tusk:/:glimmora: Great Tusk/Glimmora. I personally have been loving :assault vest:AV Draining Kiss :hatterene:Hatterene lately, and screens + Shed Tail + Multiscale is incredible.

I would appreciate any advice y’all have!

I honestly didn't even know sub worked with multiscale! But there's something I'd change about the team: booster energy--> heavy duty boots on moth, since the team lacks a hazard control option, not much else to say, love the team and I hope this helps!

I would keep moth or valiant and swap the other for a spd wall which would help. The hatterene build would work since you have nothing to get rid of hazards, or a defensive tusk and swap dondozo for a spd wall but thats really up to you. Nice team though, I wish you many dubs

Hello,

I'll rate your team since you bumped it.

Threats: I feel like Chien Pao can give a problem to this team specifically a a Choice Band set with Tera Type Dark. It can 2HKO Dondozo and it can also 2HKO Orthoworm.

I will say the team concept is great, I really do like these Orthoworm teams trying to cover Cyclizar teams of the past.

I think I would go with Garganacl instead of Dondozo, specifically running Tera Fairy. The reason I'm suggesting this is that it's one of the only Pokemons out currently that can take on a Chien Pao Crunch, Orthworm will be able to take on Ice Spinners and Icicle Crash. Here's the set I recommend:

:garganacl:
Garganacl @ Leftovers
Ability: Purifying Salt
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Protect
- Salt Cure
- Recover
- Block

This set will allow you to trap Pokémons and stall them out with Salt Cure, Protect is to foresee moves from potential choiced users as well as assisting with Salt Cure damage and saving Recovers.

I think it would be better to run a Calm Mind set on Valiant instead of Choice Specs since the point of a Shed Tail team is to be behind a Substitute and try to setup. I would keep the set you're running now maybe go from Timid > Modest and I would run Calm Mind > Psychic I would also run Booster Energy > Choice Specs

I also was also thinking maybe going with Bulk Up Great Tusk + Rapid Spin over Meowscarada but I do like Meowscaradas typing for the Grass type in case you run against any rain teams.

Aside from that cool team and I wish you the best of luck.
