I've seen the abundance of Umbreon on RMT's, and whilst it can make a very good Mean Look passer, it's problem is that it is raped and outsped by Heracross. To try and remedy this I've attempted to make my own Umbreon moveset, which although gimmicky could work.

Umbreon @ Salac Berry
Bold or Calm Nature
EV's: TBD.

Endure
Mean Look
Baton Pass
Dark Pulse/Taunt

Pretty simple really. Mean Look on the switch to Cross, Endure the hit and pass off a Mean Look with the speed boost. Taunt is to hit things on the switch that would normally set up on you such as Gyarados, and Dark Pulse is just for the sake of an attack. One of the drawbacks of this set is the lack of Wish. However, if you want a good Wisher you should go for Jirachi, because IMO Umbreon should be used as a trap passer, as that is unique to it.

Anyway discuss your thoughts on this moveset.

Looks good on paper, but endure lost alot of machismo this gen due to all the new quick attacks and tyranitar's prevalence. No, i couldn't think of a better word than machismo.

Also, Umbreon is pretty damn slow, so will it even outspeed scarfcross after a salac boost?

imo it needs yawn (why because it works)

yawn the opponent, they either switch or sleep the next turn
look them (the switch), yawn again and pass
if you have multiple setups just take the one that pwns it
(like if it's slowbro, CM suicune could do the trick to setup and sweep the rest)

Yawn is an alright idea, but most smart users will see it coming from a mile away, and that doesn't really deter Heracross from killing it.

I really don't know if this is effective or not(We don't have Competitor or anything to really test it out) but what you speed past to on the receiving end has to be able to survive a Choice Band Heracross Close Combat/Megahorn, Marowak might not be an option, and Marowak is one of the best receivers of Speed(Rampard can't receive as well).

Gliscor with Swords Dance could be a good recipient, as it can get in easily even on a STABbed Close Combat, setup and own.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but ScarfCross, the more common variant now that the metagame has become far more speed-centered, will be guaranteed to outspeed Umbreon even after a Salac Boost. Your idea, however, interests me. Is there any good Baton Passer with Sandstorm resistance AND Endure? I'm thinking...

Gligar/Gliscor. Mawile.

yep. great. Mawile is as slow as Umbreon.

howeverrrrrr

Gliscor is really speedy at Base 95!

Gliscor@ Salac Berry
252 HP/ 128 Attack / 128 Speed
Swords Dance
Earthquake
Endure
Baton Pass

There we go :]

Focus Sash maybe, not Endure/Salac since you basically have to guess whether it's Scarfed or not. With the Sash, you just absorb the hit from a Scarf Heracross or take advantage of the item against a CBer.

Better yet, switch out. Losing 90+% of your Health, essentially trading Umbreon for Heracross, is dumb anyway.

You're basically just passing one speed boost and a trap? That's not an effective use of Umbreon at all IMO. Not only that, you're completely crippling your Umbreon while doing it. Why not go with Ninjask to pass speed?

Wasn't a sticky about gimmick threads made this morning?

I can't see how changing one moveslot to something like Endure on something like Umbreon is going to entirely change the metagame. Umbreon really prefers Leftovers to Salac anyway.

eh, he wants actual feedback on it dan dan. we can at least discuss why it wouldn't work. the thing is:

a) Heracross usually runs scarf, so you wont be faster with the salac boost.
b) Umbreon needs Leftovers to really work because he is a defensive, slower pokemon. Sandstorm isn't cool.
c) If Heracross really becomes a problem and starts running CB as opposed to the scarf, a better alternative would be to predict the switch with Baton Pass and switch to Dugtrio to trap and finish it off. That way you save a move slot!
d) Dugtrio trapping is more general case and can work for other possible switches into Umbreon such as Tyranitar, Metagross or Infernape
e) I think your prime culprit would be Shed Shell Skarmory, who is the utter bane of Umbreon :(

then c) and d) apply, with the added benefit that you dont have to worry about Megahorn missing on your Endure or stupid shit like that.

Yeah I didn't think this moveset was perfect, but rather a good suprise to throw at your opponent. Granted there are many things that could screw this over, but it may suprise a CBCross user here and there. Thanks for all your feedback.
