VGC ORAS VGC Mega-Beedrill Team

Hello, So recently i started taking up VGC battles, and I have found them quite fun practicing with some sample teams and I decided to build a team of my own using some of the sets I've seen in the VGC discussion thread. I have used this team for around 4-5 battles now and have had massive success with it, so I wanted to share it and see what advice I could get with movesets, EV spreads and general strategies

So before I start I wanted to say that I was reading something on the VGC forum that said I shouldn't build my team around Mega-Beedrill but more fit him into my team, so I tried my hardest at doing exactly that.

So Let's start
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rotom-Wash @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 44 Def / 60 SpA / 148 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hydro Pump
- Protect
- Will-O-Wisp

This was the first pokemon I put on my team, I really like using Rotom-Wash in VGC as he is a really strong pick and is only really weak to Amoonguss and Mega-Venasaur. He is a very good counter to some really strong picks in VGC such as Lando-T, Mega-Zard Y and many other pokemon. The EV Spread I got was from Eeyore's Mega Altaria Team thread, basically the HP and Spdef can allow Rotom W to survive many large special attackers in VGC such as solarbeam from Mega-Zard Y if he's full health and the sitrus berry allows him to get back into a comfortable health range. The def points allow him to survive strong physical attackers such as Mega Mawile's play rough. The SpA so that he can dish out some good damage with Thunderbolt and Hydro Pump and the 1 extra speed point for convenience. Rotom is a very strong pick because it is both a good tank and damage dealer, and his typing allows to deal with many strong water types such as Milotic, Politoad and strong fire types such as arcanine and heatran. I chose to bring Will-o-Wisp Because it helps to deal with strong physical attackers like Mega Khan and Mega Mawile, plus it adds a little of damage which helps a lot.

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 184 HP / 236 Atk / 88 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Knock Off
- Protect

After Rotom, I decided to pick something that has very good synergy with rotom, for this I chose Lando-T. I gave it an expert belt because it helps adding damage to some of those targets I need Lando-T to take out such as Aegislash, Mega-Metagross, Amoonguss and Mega-Venusaur. EV's are pretty basic, 184 HP for tank, allows him to live +1 Life Orb Bisharps sucker punch. 88 Spe to outspeed and OHKO threats like Aegislash and 252 Spe Bisharp. 236 Atk to deal as much damage as possible. I chose earthquake because of it's great synergy with rotom's levitate and it's a very nice STAB move used to take out big threats. Rock Slide because it is a great move that does a good amount of damage and can help take out Pokemon like Talonflame and Mega-Charizard Y. Knock off to help deal with those bulky psychic types like Cresselia and Gothitelle who wouldn't mind facing rotom. Protect because it is a really useful move in VGC.

Sylveon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 52 HP / 204 Def / 240 SpA / 12 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Hyper Beam

Next up we have Sylveon, I chose Sylveon because she is a really strong pick with great potential, most of her weakness can be countered by Lando-T such as Aegislash, Mega-Metagross and Fire types like Heatran and Arcanine. I decided to give it Choice Specs to maximise the damage it does, if I have both Lando-T and Sylveon out, then I can EQ any threats to sylveon, while she sits their and does a lot of damage. 52 HP to give it a bit of tank and survive things like an iron head from a Terrakion. Def to also help out with people like Bisharp and other big threats. SpA to maximise the damage it can dish out and the speed for helping to outspeed some pokemon. I decided to bring Hyper voice because it is a nice STAB move with pixiliate and it hits both targets. Psyshock to hit poison types that I cant hit with other moves very well. HP Ground to hit steel types other moves wouldn't do much to and Hyper beam as a huge STAB powermove.

Beedrill @ Beedrillite
Ability: Swarm
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- U-turn
- Poison Jab
- Drill Run

Next up is mega beedrill, I thought his typing would fit in really well with the rest of the team, he is holding a beedrillite for obvious reasons. His EV Spread I wasn't sure about, so I just did 252 Atk to Maximise damage output, 252 Spe so he can outspeed a lot of pokemon and 4 SpD for general tankiness. U-turn is a good STAB Move especially in VGC to help me deal with psychic types like Cresselia and Gothorita, Poison Jab as another strong STAB move, and Drill run to help deal with fire types if need be. Not really much else to say about him, I haven't had to use him very much, and when I did it was for like 1 turn before the match ended.

Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Protect
- Knock Off

For my 5th Pokemon I chose Bisharp, I wanted to a Pokemon that wouldn't be risky swapping into psychic types and also to deal with strong fairy types such as Sylveon. My EV spread is simple, Speed to outspeed other pokemon, Atk to Maximise damage and HP for convenience. I chose to bring Iron Head as a strong Steel type stab Move, Sucker punch as a nice priority STAB Move and Knock off for another strong STAB Move with the added side bonus of knocking the items off.

Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 220 HP / 100 Def / 188 SpA
Bold Nature
- Icy Wind
- Psychic
- Helping Hand
- Lunar Dance

My last but not least pokemon is Cresselia, a super strong, tanky psychic type. Cresselia is not often targeted so leftovers helps her regain health quite nicely. My EV spread was 220 HP For the extra tankiness, 100 Def to help tank up some strong hits from people like Bisharp, Lando-T etc. and the SpA to deal out as much damage as possible. I opted for icy wind so I could get the speed control, having the 100% chance of slowing is really helpful for my other pokemon to sweep. Psychic as a nice STAB move that does a lot of damage. Helping Hand to help my other pokemon deal even more damage and Lunar Dance to bring in another pokemon full health and PP, it is more useful than I thought, but I still think there could be a better move for this slot.

So that is my full team, Firstly this is my first RMT, so if I've done something wrong with it please point me out and I will try to change it as best I can.

Secondly I want to than Eeyore and his Mega Altaria Team Thread for helping me out with sets and EV spreads

And lastly I want to thank Aaron 'Cybertron' Zheng for his Cresselia VGC 15 Analysis that helped me with making the set and Spread for Cresselia.

Thanks for Reading everyone :D

Hey dude, your team looks really nice :) Mega Beedrill is an interesting pick for a mega choice considering it isn't too great in a doubles format and especially in VGC where it's 4v4 but i've actually been wanting to build a team around it too since it looks so interesting XD. The team looks really great, for starters i suggest running Moonblast over Hyper Beam. While Hyper Beam's explosive power is really nice in times, you're much better of going with moonblast since moonblast doesn't waste a turn for you to recharge and it still bypasses Wide Guard too. Another option can be shadow ball but with Landorus and Bisharp for Aegislash, it really isn't needed too much lol. As for Cresselia, if you're going to invest so much into it's Special Attack, i suggest changing from Icy Wind to Ice Beam and Psychic to Psyshock as well as switch the nature from Bold to Modest. Since you're going with a more offensive support variant of Cresselia, running icy wind is kind of ehhh when you can just KO Landorus/Garchomp/Mence with Ice Beam instead. Modest nature allow you to always OHKO standard scarf Lando with ice beam whereas bold is only 80% to OHKO (that's not calculating bulky scarf sets either). OHKOing Landorus is pretty imporatant considering it threatens Mega Bee which is pretty much the base of your team. Not to mention it threatens Bisharp too since it doesn't OHKO with Sucker Punch unboosted and even at a +1, sucker punch isn't a guaranteed OHKO.
188+ SpA Cresselia Ice Beam vs. 44 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 180-212 (105.8 - 124.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
188 SpA Cresselia Ice Beam vs. 44 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 164-196 (96.4 - 115.2%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
Switching to modest still allows you to survive hits from pokemon like bisharp as well
252+ Atk Life Orb Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 220 HP / 100 Def Cresselia: 182-218 (81.6 - 97.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Psyshock over psychic is pretty much just to hit sylveon harder lol tho considering you have mega beedrill, it's not really too big of an issue. Also lunar dance is kind of ehh in VGC considering it's in a 4v4 doubles format so the games are really fast paced. What i recommend in that slot is Thunder Wave over Lunar Dance. T wave allows you to speed control which is nice against tailwind offense teams. Well hope i helped dude and good luck with your team n_n

Thanks Man, I really appreciate the help, I will do what you said about Cresselia because I agree it would help more and using Thunder Wave will help with keeping the speed control, I will also replace hyper beam with moonblast, thanks very much :D

Good team overall! My sincerest congratulations for using Mega Beedrill, king of glass cannons! Besides your team being naturally weak to bisharp, you realised about that and you got plenty of ways to deal with. You win a 9.9/10 'cause no team in VGC can be perfect.
