Substitute Volcarona turns more passive checks such as Heatran into setup fodder by letting it avoid a stray Toxic or Thunder Wave. This EV spread allows Volcarona's Substitutes to not be broken by Heatran's Lava Plume and lets it outspeed Choice Scarf Landorus-T after Quiver Dance. This sets's ability to demolish weakened teams late-game makes partners like Knock Off Clefable and Mega Scizor invaluable; as they can remove Heatran's Leftovers, letting Volcarona break past it much easier. Hidden Power Rock Serperior is also an amazing partner, as it can lure and eliminate Talonflame to make it easier for Volcarona to sweep. Pokemon that can take advantage of or break through Chansey such as Bisharp and Rain Dance Manaphy are incredible partners. Lastly, due to Volcarona's glaring 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, solid entry hazard control from partners like Mega Diancie, Excadrill, and Starmie is appreciated.
