Thanks to its impressive Attack, good STAB moves, quality coverage options, and useful ability that aids it in cases like blocking Alomomola's Flip Turn and Primarina's Surf, Ogerpon-W cements itself as one of the best wallbreakers of the metagame. Knock Off hits foes like Dragapult, Sinistcha, and Pecharunt; it's pretty spammable in general because Ogerpon-W threatens the tier's premier Knock Off absorber in Gliscor, and it hinders Pokemon such as Zapdos as well as Terastallized Galarian Slowking and Garganacl. Play Rough crushes Dragon-types such as Kyurem, Raging Bolt, and Dragonite. Alternatively, Trailblaze can be used to turn Ogerpon-W into a fearsome cleaner, allowing it to outspeed foes like Dragapult and Zamazenta after a boost. However, dropping Knock Off for Trailblaze makes it less suited for entry hazard-stacking teams and overall less useful for its teammates, while dropping Play Rough for Trailblaze makes it very weak to Dragon-types. An Adamant nature is used over a Jolly one to maximize its wallbreaking potential, hitting benchmarks like always OHKOing standard Garganacl after Stealth Rock with Power Whip. Tera Water bolsters its power exponentially, allowing it to do things like 2HKOing defensive Zapdos with Ivy Cudgel; it also enables Ogerpon-W to tank special moves from foes like Gholdengo, Iron Moth, and Darkrai thanks to Embody Aspect's Special Defense boost and the loss of its Grass typing.
Ogerpon-W fits on hyper and bulky offense teams as a strong physical wallbreaker and situational Trailblaze cleaner. Kingambit takes full advantage of Ogerpon-W weakening the opposing team's defensive core to sweep late-game with Swords Dance as well as pressuring shared checks like Zamazenta. It also helps in dealing with foes Ogerpon-W may struggle with, such as Dragapult and Kyurem. Zamazenta also helps Ogerpon-W deal with annoying revenge killers like Kingambit and Lokix as well as foes like Kyurem. In return, Ogerpon-W handles foes these Pokemon may struggle against, such as Landorus-T and Moltres. Ogerpon-W is extremely vulnerable to entry hazards. Great Tusk provides reliable hazard control with Rapid Spin while also addressing threats that can revenge kill Ogerpon-W, such as Dragonite, Kingambit, and Raging Bolt. Iron Treads is also a good hazard-removing partner, and it is especially helpful against Raging Bolt. Iron Valiant demolishes pesky Dragon-types and threats like Zamazenta while also solving Adamant Ogerpon-W's Speed issues. Teammates like Raging Bolt and Iron Moth capitalize on Ogerpon-W's wallbreaking prowess and ability to deal with Ground-types by overwhelming the opposing team and potentially cleaning mid- or late-game. Hazard setters such as Glimmora, Landorus-T, and Ting-Lu are excellent partners for Ogerpon-W, especially if it uses Knock Off to remove Heavy-Duty Boots from its foes. Because Ogerpon-W appreciates hazards being kept up on the opposing side of the field, Gholdengo naturally makes a great teammate thanks to its ability to block Rapid Spin and Defog; in return, Ogerpon-W deals with threats like Ting-Lu for Gholdengo. Ogerpon-W also benefits from pivots like Dragapult and Galarian Slowking creating opportunities for it to come in against foes like Ting-Lu and blow holes in the opposing team. Moreover, Dragapult hampers threats like Zamazenta and Dragonite while also spinblocking to maintain hazards on the opponent's side of the field; Galarian Slowking, on the other hand, sponges hits from Pokemon like Iron Valiant and non-Dragon Dance Kyurem, which are normally good answers to Ogerpon-W. By and large, strong wallbreakers and sweepers make great teammates for Ogerpon-W; Dragon-types like Dragonite, Roaring Moon, and Kyurem as well as Pokemon like Darkrai, Enamorus, and Swords Dance Gliscor all synergize well with Ogerpon-W, benefiting from its ability to weaken the opposing team with its powerful STAB moves and coverage. These Dragon-types and Gliscor enjoy Ogerpon-W weakening shared checks such as Zamazenta and Ice Spinner Dragonite, respectively. Darkrai and Enamorus, being potent special wallbreakers, work hand in hand with it to completely dismantle the opponent's team, particularly its defensive backbone; Enamorus can also use Healing Wish to bring Ogerpon-W back to full health if it's chipped and further prolong its assault on the opposing team.
