Obscure Pokemon Trivia

Status
Not open for further replies.
Spent way too much time coming up with some pretty challenging (I hope) Pokemon trivia questions. All questions are up to date as of the time of this post, although I certainly could have made a couple of mistakes here and there, so please forgive me if I did. The questions are approximately ordered from easiest to hardest within their respective category. All testing was done on Showdown instead of cart. Try not to cheat, and please post your answers with a spoiler tag.

Questions revolving around Pokemon types

1. This is the only type not utilized by a Paradox Pokemon
2. These two dual type combinations only exist in battle
3. This single typed Pokemon has a dual typed pre-evolution
4. These two Pokemon can turn 4x weaknesses into immunities with their abilities
5. Along with Eevee, this Pokemon may not have any types overlapping after evolving, discounting Pokemon that are able to swap between forms

Surprisingly, these moves are super effective on Pokemon they normally wouldn't be. How? (Note: Ignore Ring Target. All Pokemon have their original typings)

1. A way a fighting move can be super effective on Gholdengo
2. A way an ice move can be super effective on Toxapex
3. A way a psychic move can be super effective on Scrafty
4. A way a fire move can be super effective on Clodsire
5. A way a fighting move can be super effective on Rillaboom

Questions revolving around the four types of Terrain

1. These two moves are boosted by terrains different to what their types might suggest
2. If all stats are otherwise equal, this stat will be boosted by Quark Drive
3. This move is blocked by Electric Terrain, but not Misty Terrain
4. This damaging Z-Move can be blocked by Psychic Terrain
5. This terrain effect applies to levitating Pokemon, but not flying Pokemon

All answers relate in some way to swords

1. This special move uses the target’s physical defense when calculating damage
2. This is the only member of the Swords of Justice to have a 4x resistance
3. This is the only non Z-Move to have a base power with three significant digits
4. This ability has no direct effect on the user
5. This is the only functional difference between Behemoth Blade and Behemoth Bash

All answers relate to abilities only held by one line of Pokemon

1. This Pokemon has several signature abilities
2. This ability can be Traced, but not Skill Swapped
3. This ability is an unequivocally better version of a held item, but has no additional benefits over that held item other than pure strength of effect and does not boost a specific type
4. These two abilities may allow the user to attack twice in one turn
5. This ability only works if the user is a certain level

All answers relate to trapping moves or abilities

1. No Pokemon currently receive STAB on this trapping move
2. This trapping move also prevents the user from switching out
3. A way to switch out while under the effects of Shadow Tag discounting items, moves, or the Ghost typing
4. This trapping move still has an effect even if the user has fainted
5. This damage dealing trapping move is unaffected by Sheer Force

Question 3 in Abilities™ has several answers. In total, I can think of at least three, though there certainly may be more.

Sure, if we're posting our answer sets:
1: Normal
2: I believe it's Normal/Fighting (Lopunny-Mega and Meloetta-Pirouette) and Ice/Fire (Darmanitan-galar-zen)
3: Marill/Azumarill I think? I have a hard time recalling which mons became pure Fairy vs Normal/Fairy.
4: Rotom-H. Groudon-Primal (usually) has a similar effect, but it's awkward to fully count in.
5. Yeah I dunno.

1.Foresight/Odor Sleuth/Scrappy
2. Freeze-Dry
3. Miracle Eye
4. Forest's Curse
5. Flying Press

1. Psyblade is one, though unfortunately its counterpart is Weather-based, not terrain-based. I wouldn't class Terrain Pulse or Nature power in here either since to me Normal would indicate the ability to flex into multiple types.
2. I think Attack is prioritized for being the first in index order
3. Yawn?
4. Supersonic Skystrike, if used by a mon with Gale Wings? Alternately, Z-Baby-Doll Eyes.
5. I'm going to guess the power reduction on Earthquake and friends from Grassy Terrain, because Mold Breaker makes that interaction possible.

1. Keldeo's Secret Sword.
2. Cobalion, to Bug
3. Solar Blade
4. Sword of Ruin
5. The ability to be boosted by Sharpness

1. At least in gen 6, the Florges line was the only mon for both Symbiosis and Flower Veil
2. Wonder Guard
3. Steelworker, to Metal Coat. I think also Neuroforce, to Expert Belt?
4. Dancer, when copying e.g. Fiery Dance. Parental Bond is close, but I'm not confident it fits.
5. Schooling

1. Wrap doesn't feel like it's used by a lot of Normal types.
2. Jaw Lock
3. Two Shadow Tag users are able to swap out of each other
4. Fairy Lock is really weird, so I'm going to guess that.
5. Wait, isn't this most of them? There's obviously the status-only moves (Fairy Lock, Block, Mean Look, Octolock?), and I thought the partial trapping effect wasn't counted for Sheer Force (thus also adding Wrap/Fire Spin/Whirlpool/Clamp/Sand Tomb/Magma Storm/Infestation/something else I forgot about). Did you possibly mean to ask which trapping moves are affected by Sheer Force? In which case, it would logically be the attacks with nothing else going on but applying trapped to the target: Anchor Shot, Spirit Shackle, and maybe Thousand Waves unless being a spread move messes with that (Thousand Waves is spread, right?)

Bolded means correct

1. probs normal
2. curse and frog: Not sure what this means
3. clefable: The entire line is pure Fairy
4. rotom heat and primal don
5. D:
6. mega bunny (Scrappy in general)
7. freze dry

8. wat
9. i feel so dum
10. flying press B)
11. frick idk natures power?
12. uhh speed
13. fake out maybe
14. noo
15. secret sword
16. cobalion bug

17. dog blade
18. sword of ruin
19. im soo googling these when im done
20. ray and mega ray: I guess technically this works. Wasn't what I was thinking of but it still pretty much works
21. ew
22. gorilla tacts: Provides an identical effect to Choice Band
23. parental bond and i dunno
24. stinky
25. ???
26. jaw lock
27. uturn: Question was ill posed, probably should have defined manually better.
28. ???,????
29. mean look
30. that one wobbuffet clause that probably exists

Well done! Bolded means correct.

part 1
1: Normal
2: I believe it's Normal/Fighting (Lopunny-Mega and Meloetta-Pirouette) and Ice/Fire (Darmanitan-galar-zen): Stufful line is also Normal/Fighting
3: Marill/Azumarill I think? I have a hard time recalling which mons became pure Fairy vs Normal/Fairy.
4: Rotom-H. Groudon-Primal (usually) has a similar effect, but it's awkward to fully count in. Good point. Question was probably a bit unclear
5. Yeah I dunno.

part 2
1.Foresight/Odor Sleuth/Scrappy. Technically only Scrappy is able to work on Gholdengo since none of the other two exist in Gen 9, but yes
2. Freeze-Dry
3. Miracle Eye
4. Forest's Curse: The Pokemon must have their original typing, otherwise this would work
5. Flying Press

part 3
1. Psyblade is one, though unfortunately its counterpart is Weather-based, not terrain-based. I wouldn't class Terrain Pulse or Nature power in here either since to me Normal would indicate the ability to flex into multiple types. The other move also shares a type with another terrain but is boosted by a different terrain.
2. I think Attack is prioritized for being the first in index order
3. Yawn? Correct. Really interesting interaction here. Pokemon can become drowsy in Misty Terrain but not Electric Terrain.
4. Supersonic Skystrike, if used by a mon with Gale Wings? Alternately, Z-Baby-Doll Eyes. Had no idea that Z-Baby Doll Eyes retained priority. Good catch.
5. I'm going to guess the power reduction on Earthquake and friends from Grassy Terrain, because Mold Breaker makes that interaction possible. Wasn't sure if anyone was going to get this. Nice job.

part 4
1. Keldeo's Secret Sword.
2. Cobalion, to Bug
3. Solar Blade
4. Sword of Ruin
5. The ability to be boosted by Sharpness. 5 for 5, nicely done

part 5
1. At least in gen 6, the Florges line was the only mon for both Symbiosis and Flower Veil: Specifically as of Gen 9.
2. Wonder Guard
3. Steelworker, to Metal Coat. I think also Neuroforce, to Expert Belt? For some reason, I completely forgot about type boosting items. Neuroforce was the intended answer though. Just a bad question on my part.
4. Dancer, when copying e.g. Fiery Dance. Parental Bond is close, but I'm not confident it fits. Parental Bond counts.
5. Schooling

part 6
1. Wrap doesn't feel like it's used by a lot of Normal types. Lickitung learns Wrap, but good guess otherwise
2. Jaw Lock
In which case, it would logically be the attacks with nothing else going on but applying trapped to the target: Anchor Shot, Spirit Shackle, and maybe Thousand Waves unless being a spread move messes with that (Thousand Waves is spread, right?) Poorly worded. I meant damage dealing trapping moves but definitely was unclear about it. All damage dealing trapping moves have the trapping effect negated by Sheer Force except for one. Binding moves do trap, but they are a separate category of move.

1. Normal
2. Dragon/Fairy, Dragon/Psychic
3. Bellosom
4. Rotom-Heat, Groudon-Primal? Not quite sure if that last one counts.
5. Not quite sure what this could be. Cubone -> Marowak-Alola loses both its types but Cubone can also evolve into regular Marowak. Prior to Gen 6, Azurill went from mono-Normal to mono-Water, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't count.

1. Odor Sleuth, Foresight, Scrappy
2. Freeze-Dry
3. Miracle Eye
4. Tar Shot
5. Flying Press

1. The first one is Floral Healing, but I'm not quite sure what the second could be. Terrain Pulse maybe, but it's "boosted" by all of the terrains. Alternatively, a move that makes the user confused, such as Thrash or Petal Dance, could potentially be considered "boosted" in Misty Terrain. NVM it's Psyblade LOL, how did I forget
2. Attack
3. Honestly not sure what this could be.
4. Z-Baby-Doll Eyes and Z-Spotlight are unable to affect their targets in Psychic Terrain, but still give boosts to the user. I'm unsure whether this counts, but I'm not quite sure what else it could be.
5. Not sure what this could be.

1. Secret Sword
2. Cobalion
3. Solar Blade
4. I think that Sword of Ruin is the intended answer, but it also prevents you from being affected by other Pokémons' Sword of Ruin abilities, so I'm not sure if that counts. I also don't know what it would be otherwise.
5. Behemoth Blade is a slicing move and Behemoth Bash is not.

1. Zygarde
2. Wonder Guard
3. Neuroforce
4. Dancer, Parental Bond? Not sure if Parental Bond counts because I think it just turns moves into multi-hit moves which is still technically one attack.
5. Schooling

1. Anchor Shot
2. Jaw Lock
3. Fainting Shadow Tag
4. Fairy Lock
5. Jaw Lock works here but I'm assuming Thousand Waves is the intended answer

Neuroforce, Levitate (how did I think of Neuroforce first LOL) actually I just realized you may sometimes want a consumable item so instead I'm going to guess Compound Eyes.

EDIT: Quick Draw also works, as does Skill Link!

1. normal
2. one is ice/fire, i think the other is dragon/fairy from mega altaria?
3. bellossom
4. rotom-heat is one. primal groudon for the other?
5. cubone into alolan marowak
1. scrappy
2. freeze-dry
3. miracle eye
4. tar shot
5. flying press
1. psyblade and floral healing
2. attack i'm pretty sure, i think it uses beast boost order of operations
3. i think this one is yawn?
4. supersonic skystrike off a gale wings user is one. technically any prankster status z move counts i think? or is it supposed to be z-baby-doll eyes.
5. is it the bulldoze grassy terrain one? that's the only thing i can think of because it's such an obscure interaction, even if idk how it'd work
1. secret sword
2. cobalion? x4 bug resist
3. solar blade at 125
4. sword of ruin
5. the sharpness / slicing move flag
1. calyrex doesn't count even though it technically has two as ones. darmanitan, between zen mode and gtactics?
2. ugh i hate trace and skill swap interactions. wait aren't the paradox abilities unable to be skill swapped? but they can be traced.
3. i don't know if BETTER is accurate but float stone and light metal exist. does opportunist count as "strength of effect" compared to mirror herb, being multi-use? probably not. compound eyes and wide lens work for this, right? and quick draw / quick claw? what about rattled / adrenaline orb?
4. dancer and... parental bond? does that count?
5. schooling
1. technically no pokemon receive STAB on mean look etc but that's not what you're going for. dhelmise technically doesn't get STAB on anchor shot
2. jaw lock
3. emergency exit / wimp out, i believe?
4. fairy lock
5. thousand waves, which i remember from balanced hackmons
1. i already word dumped in the abilities thing so my answer is in there.

Bolded means correct. Nicely done!

1. Normal
2. Dragon/Fairy, Dragon/Psychic: Latios/Latias retain the typing outside of battle
3. Bellosom
4. Rotom-Heat, Groudon-Primal? Not quite sure if that last one counts. Admittedly a bit of a stretch on my end, but yes,
5. Not quite sure what this could be. Cubone -> Marowak-Alola loses both its types but Cubone can also evolve into regular Marowak. Prior to Gen 6, Azurill went from mono-Normal to mono-Water, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't count. While Cubone can also evolve into regular Marowak, it has the potential to not have any types overlapping, and the question used the phrasing "may." Good catch, this one was tricky.

It’s Super Effective???
1. Odor Sleuth, Foresight, Scrappy
2. Freeze-Dry
3. Miracle Eye
4. Tar Shot
5. Flying Press

Terrain of Thought
Rephrased the question to make a little more sense. There is a damaging Z move that is blocked by psychic terrain. I had forgotten about Z-Spotlight when I made the question, but I'm pretty sure there's only one damaging Z-move that fits.
5. Not sure what this could be.

"S" Words
Good catch. Question probably should have been worded differently.
5. Behemoth Blade is a slicing move and Behemoth Bash is not. That is, Blade is boosted by Sharpness.

Abilities™
1. Zygarde
2. Wonder Guard
3. Neuroforce
4. Dancer, Parental Bond? Not sure if Parental Bond counts because I think it just turns moves into multi-hit moves which is still technically one attack. It's difficult to define what exactly counts here. Originally I only had Dancer but I figured people would guess Parental Bond over Dancer anyway so I included them both.
5. Schooling

It’s a Trap!
1. Anchor Shot
2. Jaw Lock
3. Fainting Shadow Tag
4. Fairy Lock
5. Jaw Lock works here but I'm assuming Thousand Waves is the intended answer. Good catch. Couldn't find anything on Jaw Lock ignoring Sheer Force but I tested it and you're right. Thousand Waves was the intended answer.

Boss Question
Neuroforce, Levitate (how did I think of Neuroforce first LOL) actually I just realized you may sometimes want a consumable item so instead I'm going to guess Compound Eyes.

EDIT: Quick Draw also works, as does Skill Link!: Skill Link is not a signature ability, but Quick Draw works. There's definitely way more answers than I had originally thought.

Bolded means correct. Nice work! Only missed a couple.

1. normal
2. one is ice/fire, i think the other is dragon/fairy from mega altaria?
3. bellossom
4. rotom-heat is one. primal groudon for the other?
5. cubone into alolan marowak

1. scrappy
2. freeze-dry
3. miracle eye
4. tar shot
5. flying press

1. psyblade and floral healing
2. attack i'm pretty sure, i think it uses beast boost order of operations
3. i think this one is yawn?
4. supersonic skystrike off a gale wings user is one. technically any prankster status z move counts i think? or is it supposed to be z-baby-doll eyes.
5. is it the bulldoze grassy terrain one? that's the only thing i can think of because it's such an obscure interaction, even if idk how it'd work. If the Bulldoze user has Mold Breaker or one of its clones, it will be able to hit levitating Pokemon but not flying Pokemon. The levitating Pokemon will then experience the damage halved under terrain.

1. secret sword
2. cobalion? x4 bug resist
3. solar blade at 125
4. sword of ruin
5. the sharpness / slicing move flag

1. calyrex doesn't count even though it technically has two as ones. darmanitan, between zen mode and gtactics? I guess Darmanitan technically counts? I had considered the two regional forms to be separate Pokemon when writing this question but when I really think about it this answer should definitely count.
2. ugh i hate trace and skill swap interactions. wait aren't the paradox abilities unable to be skill swapped? but they can be traced. I tested it out in Showdown and could not trace Paradox abilities. Could be a discrepancy between simulator and cart though so you may be correct.
3. i don't know if BETTER is accurate but float stone and light metal exist. does opportunist count as "strength of effect" compared to mirror herb, being multi-use? probably not. compound eyes and wide lens work for this, right? and quick draw / quick claw? what about rattled / adrenaline orb? This question was terribly written on my part. Granted, some of the mentioned abilities are not signatures, but there are definitely far more answers than I had originally anticipated.
4. dancer and... parental bond? does that count? Originally I only had Dancer, but I figured most people would think of Parental Bond first and guess that instead so I just included them both.
5. schooling

1. technically no pokemon receive STAB on mean look etc but that's not what you're going for. dhelmise technically doesn't get STAB on anchor shot
2. jaw lock
3. emergency exit / wimp out, i believe? Wouldn't work the way I had originally written the question but I had to make some changes to the wording. Works here though.
4. fairy lock
5. thousand waves, which i remember from balanced hackmons

1. i already word dumped in the abilities thing so my answer is in there.

Not My Type
1. Normal
2. Dragon/Fairy [Altaria-Mega], Ice/Fire [GDarm Zen Mode]
3. Bellossom
4. Rotom-H, Primal Groudon
5. Cubone > Alolawak
It's Super Effective?
1. Scrappy
2. Freeze-Dry
3. Miracle Eye
4. got nothing
5. Flying Press
Terrain of Thought
1. Psyblade
2. Attack
3. got nothing
4. Literally any priority Z-move, particularly a priority status Z-move
5. got nothing
"S" words
1. Psyshock & Secret Sword
2. Cobalion [4x resist to rock and bug]
3. Solar Blade [125]
4. All of the Ruin abilities, not just Sword of Ruin. They affect everyone but the user. Power Spot may also be a viable answer.
5. Slicing flag
Abilities
1. Zygarde
2. Protosynthesis and Quark Drive
3. Neuroforce
4. Dancer, Parental Bond
5. Schooling
It's A Trap!
1. Snap Trap
2. Jaw Lock
3. Shadow Tag cannot trap another pokemon with Shadow Tag
4. got nothing
5. Thousand Waves

1.Normal
2. I don't know what this is supposed to mean. Wouldn't any dual type move getting hit by forest's curse be this? Bug/Rock/Grass, Bug/Steel/Grass
3. Bellossom
4. Primal Groudon and Rotom-Heat
5. Cubone into Alolan Marrowak

1. Mega Ampharos using Odor Sleuth and then any fighting type moves
2. Freeze Dry
3. Miracle Eye
4. Hit clodsire with forest curse
5. Skill swap color change onto Rillaboom and then hit it with a normal move to make it normal type

1. I don't know. Steel Roller and Nature Power?
2. Attack. Unless it's different than beast boost for some reason in which case I curse gamefreak
3. Idk, yawn?
4. No clue. None of them have priority.
5. No clue

1. Psystrike, psyshock or the answer you're actually looking for secret sword
2. Cobalion with a X4 rock resist
3. I don't know. Max power return?
4. I don't know what this question is supposed to be asking. Illuminate?
5. I don't know. Is it something to do with ditto transforming since there was a bug with that at the launch of SwSh.

1. Galarian Darmanitan
2. No Clue
3. Neuroforce is power crept expert belt
4. Parental bond and Gulp Missile
5. No clue

1. I think some grass type or some bug type got a signature move of the other type that traps this gen but I'll be damned if I know what mon that is.
2. Fairy lock
3. Having Shadow tag yourself, wimp out and emergency escape.
4. I don't know. Fairy lock?
5. Magma storm? Isn't the trapping affect a primary effect and not a secondary effect.

Bolded means correct. Well done!

1. Normal
2. Dragon/Fairy [Altaria-Mega], Ice/Fire [GDarm Zen Mode]
3. Bellossom
4. Rotom-H, Primal Groudon
5. Cubone > Alolawak

It's Super Effective?

1. Scrappy
2. Freeze-Dry
3. Miracle Eye
4. got nothing
5. Flying Press

Terrain of Thought
1. Psyblade
2. Attack
3. got nothing
4. Literally any priority Z-move, particularly a priority status Z-move. Changed the question to better reflect this. There is a damaging Z-Move that can be blocked by terrain. However, priority moves such as Bullet Punch do not retain priority in their Z form. See if you can figure it out!
5. got nothing

"S" words
1. Psyshock & Secret Sword. Psyshock would not count as it does not relate to swords.
2. Cobalion [4x resist to rock and bug]
3. Solar Blade [125]
4. All of the Ruin abilities, not just Sword of Ruin. They affect everyone but the user. Power Spot may also be a viable answer. Similarly, only Sword of Ruin relates to swords, so it is the correct answer
5. Slicing flag

Abilities
answers
1. Zygarde
2. Protosynthesis and Quark Drive. Tested on Showdown when I wrote the questions and those abilities could not be Traced. May be different on cartridge though.
3. Neuroforce
4. Dancer, Parental Bond
5. Schooling

It's A Trap!
answers
1. Snap Trap. Technically not classified as a trapping move, but it does work otherwise.
2. Jaw Lock
3. Shadow Tag cannot trap another pokemon with Shadow Tag
4. got nothing
5. Thousand Waves

Bolded means correct. Nicely done!

1.Normal
2. I don't know what this is supposed to mean. Wouldn't any dual type move getting hit by forest's curse be this? Bug/Rock/Grass, Bug/Steel/Grass. Admittedly a bit of a loophole in the question, but you are technically correct. Rephrased it to specifically mention dual types. There are two dual types that are battle exclusive, see if you can figure them out!
3. Bellossom
4. Primal Groudon and Rotom-Heat
5. Cubone into Alolan Marrowak

Not My Type
1. Mega Ampharos using Odor Sleuth and then any fighting type moves.
2. Freeze Dry
3. Miracle Eye
4. Hit clodsire with forest curse. All Pokemon have their original typings.
5. Skill swap color change onto Rillaboom and then hit it with a normal move to make it normal type. See above.

Terrain of Thought
1. I don't know. Steel Roller and Nature Power?
2. Attack. Unless it's different than beast boost for some reason in which case I curse gamefreak
3. Idk, yawn?
4. No clue. None of them have priority. There is one damaging Z-Move that has priority, but only under specific conditions. See if you can figure it out!
5. No clue

Swords
1. Psystrike, psyshock or the answer you're actually looking for secret sword
2. Cobalion with a X4 rock resist
3. I don't know. Max power return? Technically this move does not have an official base power.
4. I don't know what this question is supposed to be asking. Illuminate? The ability affects all Pokemon on the field except the user.
5. I don't know. Is it something to do with ditto transforming since there was a bug with that at the launch of SwSh.

Abilities
1. Galarian Darmanitan. Decided earlier to allow this, as both Darmanitan forms technically have the same Pokedex number.
2. No Clue
3. Neuroforce is power crept expert belt
4. Parental bond and Gulp Missile. Not sure if Gulp Missile counts here as you aren't actually using a specific move.
5. No clue

It's a trap

On another note, I've been considering doing another round of these sometime later. Please let me know if you'd be interested!

Spent way too much time coming up with some pretty challenging (I hope) Pokemon trivia questions. All questions are up to date as of the time of this post, although I certainly could have made a couple of mistakes here and there, so please forgive me if I did.
