Introduction:
Hello people of Smogon. Double01 here with my first ever post and RMT. Since I'm new I probably should tell you about myself. I started playing pokemon competitively around 5 months ago. Being any new comer I played in the OU tier. My favorite playing style has always been stall and having a defensive mind set. I looked up to Kevin Garret and many other great defensive players. I quickly got bored of OU and started looking into the lower tiers mainly UU and RU. I have had a few successful teams such as a hail stall team that peaked #5 on smogon ladders. I never played NU much until my friend wanted a NU battle with me. He brought a smashpass team that destroyed my team of basically 6 random pokemon with good synergy. I started playing a lot more NU from there on out but I have noticed that NU is very much offensive orientated. Out of the 20 games or so I played I think I met 1 stall team and it was a typical hail stall. I wanted to do something different from everyone else that was the usual smash pass team or heavy offensive teams. I of course wanted to do stall but not hail stall. My three main goals of the team were too A. Have a successful non hail stall team B. Be able to beat smash pass teams and C. Try to peak as high as possible on the Smogon ladder. My team exceeded my expectations and I was able to peak at 17 on my alt named "STALL NU". I might've been able to peak higher if I more experience and just better skill since I'm fairly new. Without further ado I present my team, enjoy. The Team:
Lady Luck (Roselia) (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Hp/ 252 SDef/ 4 Def
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Spikes
- Toxic Spikes
- Synthesis
- Giga Drain
Roselia is a VERY important 'mon for this team. She has the ability to set up T-Spikes and spikes which is essential for my team. At first I was having trouble picking who to set up spikes and toxic spikes. I started with Garbodor, who wasn't bad but with no recovery move he just wasn't worth it. Roselia does everything Garbodor can but better with synthesis and no ground weakness. The Evs are to maximize her SDef so she can take psychic and fire type attacks better. Depending on team preview I usually lead with either her or Miltank. Giga Drain can utilize her fairly hid SAtk to regain health against water types and such. Eviolite is chosen because she's useless without it.
Got Milk? (Miltank) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Hp/ 184 Def/ 84 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Heal Bell
- Milk Drink
- Return
- Stealth Rocks
Miltank was also a very hard choice for my SR user. In the end I chose him over Armaldo for 2 main reasons. Miltank has heal bell which is very crucial because if I were not running heal bell on Miltank then I would have to run it on Altaria getting rid of Substitute which I can't see my self getting rid of. Also Miltank has a self recovery move and is much faster then Armaldo. Although the loss of rapid spin is bad I rather have a fast stealth rocker with good resistances to fire and ice thanks to thick fat. If the opponent is setting up there hazards then I'm mostly setting up mine. Since every pokemon on my has a self recovery move I don't fret too much about hazards. The Evs are to make it faster than max speed Smeargle so i can get a free SR or Return on the Smeargle before it spores me. The rest of the Evs are to make it as bulky as possible.
Racecar (Alomomola) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Hydration
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Def / 136 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Protect
- Scald
- Toxic
- Wish
Alomomola is an absolute beast. I needed a wish passer and what better than a giant luvdisc? Not only can she wish pass but he is able to spread toxic to those damn steels and poisons. Soak and toxic maybe gimmicky at first but trust me it works wonders. If a steel decides to stay in on my soak I can just toxic it and have it toxic forever. She can also take Physical hits like a boss. She is my main go to wall against any fighting types or those annoying Facade Swellows that rape anything else on my team. A Swellow can't even 2 hit KO this thing allowing it to stall it out. It can toxic stall with wish and protect. You basically need a super effective hit to kill this thing and even then it's pretty hard to kill. Overall it would be pretty hard to replace this guy.
Steel Cloud (Altaria) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
- Substitute
- Roar
Altaria is one of 2 phazers that I have. IMO Altaria is the best phazer in NU. Substitute is the key move in this set letting it avoid statuses and take on wimpy hits. He has very good resistances and with sub and roost gl killing this thing. Roar is obvious to stop the smash pass chains as well as rack up hazard damage. The EVs are to give it good SpDef while being able to take some physical attacks. If by someone gets by the sub and is able to toxic me I can simply just switch out and not worry thanks to Natural Cure. He is also a very good counter to SD Leafeon which could give this team major trouble. If I see Leafeon on the opposing team I usually do not want to lose Altaria else it might mean gg. Again if I didn't have Miltank than i would have to run heal bell on Altaria getting rid of substitute.
French Kiss (Lickilicky) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Cloud Nine
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Curse
- Sleep Talk
- Rest
- Dragon Tail
This is my second phazer and he does not disappoint. I ran this set on a LC stall team on Lickitung and it works just as well on Lickilicky. It's extremely annoying when I get to 5% hp and just rest up and continue to phaze. Licki also is a pretty good hail counter thanks to Cloud Nine making the blizzspamers miss like hell. I maximize the EVs in SDef because Curse will just start raise my Def and I'll need SDef. After 2 curses they will either need to phaze me out or just die over time to hazards. A +2 def even fighting types such as Machamp have trouble killing this thing. Although Altaria may be the best phazer Licki comes in a close 2nd all it needs to do is set up 1 or 2 turns and then its gg.
I dont die? (Duosion) (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Psychic
- Acid Armor
Duosion is the glue, the staller, the sweeper, and the MVP of my team. It is literally that good of a pokemon. I really wish I could take credit for this set but I think I found just browsing the web. This set has not dissapointed me one bit. I used this set also on my RU Hail stall team that peaked #5. He there was also the MVP. Duosion comes in on a fighting type sets up either a calm mind or acid armor depending what i think he is going to switch to then just continue to set up. The only time this thing can die is to crit which due to the amount of setting up has happened a lot of times. The EVs are to maximize its defence and spdef equally. I'm going to have a feeling that more people are going to use this set once people find out how good it is.
Conclusion
Overall I think this has been the best team I have ever created. I would like some criticism though because I do think that this team has flaws and it might need an improvement somewhere. If my format for this RMT is wrong then please correct me as soon as possible. Once again I hope that people realize how deadly stall can be and I also hope it opens more people to the NU tier.Exportable
