Heya, thanks everyone for your patience in recent times. Today, the UU council has decided that, due to its incredible, Landorus-T like usage and influence, we're going to be suspect testing Tinkaton.
Tinkaton is obviously an incredible Pokemon. Good defenses complimented by Steel/Fairy typing - a typing often considered to be the best one in the entire game - makes Tinkaton a pretty solid stop to a number of Pokemon. In particular, its excellent Special Defense combined with its typing makes it a great catch-all pivot into special attackers that don't hit it super effectively with their STAB, like Gengar, Noivern and Iron Jugulis. It's not too dissimilar from a special variant of OU's Landorus-T in this way, which does the same thing on the physical side thanks to its great typing and Intimidate. On top of this, Tinkaton's incredibly strong 160 Base Power Gigaton Hammer is reminiscent of Landorus-T's powerful Earthquake, alongside its excellent utility in Stealth Rock and Knock Off. Indeed, it is not too difficult to see why some call Tinkaton the Landorus-T of UU.
Additionally, much like Landorus-T, Tinkaton's access to a very powerful Swords Dance set adds some depth to its game. Finding free setup on Pokemon that can't hurt it significantly such as Scream Tail, Grafaiai, and Brambleghast, Tinkaton turns into an unstoppable wallbreaker and sweeper the likes of which UU has never seen. With absurd calcs such as OHKOing Hippowdon at +6 with a critical hit, it's easy to see why players are struggling to find checks to this set. No longer can passive walls like Slowking hope to check Tinkaton lest they find themselves on the wrong end of a Gigaton Hammer. Nice balls, bro.
There are some differences between the two, though. Most notably, unlike Landorus-T, Tinkaton does not have access to U-turn. This is a key balancing factor in its place in the UU metagame, as if Tinkaton could chip Wo-Chien for 17% on the switch, that could very well send the tier into disarray. What Tinkaton does have, however, is Encore; imagine making the very default, solid play of clicking Stealth Rock after bringing your Hippowdon in on Tinkaton, and suddenly you're locked into the move. How is that even fair? Landorus-T was never capable of doing this; it is a much more honest presence in the metagame, and Tinkaton's shameful antics are a joke by comparison.
In short, the UU council has felt that our metagame has been too dissimilar from the comfy Landorus-T-styled homes that we're used to in OU. For this reason, we're launching a suspect test to hopefully bring balance back to the world and hopefully make everyone enjoy the tier once again.
The voting requirements are a minimum GXE of 55 with at least 2 games played. In addition, you may play 1 less game for every 0.2 GXE you have above 78 GXE, down to a minimum of 250 games at a GXE of 5. As always, needing more than 250 games to reach 5 GXE is fine.
Other than that, the test will operate as always. There will be no suspect ladder. Instead, the standard UU ladder will remain open. Those who wish to participate in this suspect test will instead use a fresh, suspect-specific alt. All games must be played on the Pokemon Showdown! UU ladder on a fresh alt with the following format: "UUFIWGH (Nick)." For example, I might register the alt UUFIWGH Lily to ladder with. You must meet the listed format in order to qualify.
Participants will have until Sunday, April 2nd to meet voting requirements and post in the Alt Identification Thread. PLEASE DO POST YOUR CONFIRMED SUSPECT RESULTS HERE - there used a dedicated thread for identifying your suspect results, but we decided that sucks lol. Happy laddering!
