Ninetales @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Ghost
Timid Nature
- Weather Ball
- Encore
- Healing Wish
- Will-O-Wisp

Turns out you can teach an old fox new tricks! Ninetales finds itself as an alternative sun setter in OU, leveraging the all-important Encore and Healing Wish and decent Speed tier over its bulkier and entry hazard-centric competition in Torkoal. Encore locks foes like Raging Bolt, Iron Moth, and Tera Fire Zamazenta into setup moves while shutting down defensive foes like Toxapex, Gliscor, and Clefable, giving easy entry to powerful teammates. Healing Wish gives a weakened offensive teammate a new lease on life to terrorize the opposing team, and Will-O-Wisp neuters physical attackers like Roaring Moon, Dragonite, and Zamazenta. Tera Ghost gives Ninetales a free turn to use Will-O-Wisp or Encore against the dangerous Zamazenta and blocks Rapid Spin. Ninetales should exclusively be used on offensive sun teams loaded with powerful threats like Raging Bolt, Walking Wake, Great Tusk, and Roaring Moon that aim to quickly dismantle teams with their sheer damage output. Great Tusk in particular alongside Hatterene is fantastic for providing hazard control, which Ninetales lacks over Torkoal.

Turns out you can teach an old fox new tricks! Ninetales finds itself as an alternative Sun setter in OU, leveraging the all-important Encore and Healing Wish a deep support movepool (i think immediately highlighting encore + hwish is better cause that's its selling point over torkoal in this context) and decent Speed tier over it's bulkier and hazard-centric (since tork's utility is more of rocks and spin) competition in Torkoal. Encore is an excellent disruption tool, locking locks foes like Raging Bolt, Iron Moth, and Tera Fire Zamazenta Great Tusk, or Volcarona (you just wisp tusk) into setup moves (add how it shuts down defensive mons like abc too, and how encoring all of these mons can give your teammates free entry afterwards). Healing Wish is a powerful last resort tool, giving gives a weakened offensive teammate like Raging Bolt or Walking Wake a new lease on life to terrorize the opposing team, and Will-O-Wisp allows Ninetales to neuters physical attackers foes like Roaring Moon, Dragonite, and Zamazenta with debilitating status. Tera Ghost is the Tera type of choice, giving gives Ninetales a free turn to use click Will-O-Wisp or Encore Healing Wish against powerful threats like the dangerous Zamazenta and Great Tusk (tusk rarely runs a fighting move, it's mostly for the zama matchup) while also blocking opposing Rapid Spin. Ninetales should exclusively be used on hyper offensive Sun teams, loaded with powerful threats like Raging Bolt, Venusaur, (unmon) Walking Wake, Great Tusk, and Roaring Moon that aim to quickly dismantle opposing teams with their sheer damage output. (if there's enough character left you can mention tusk's hazard removal for ninetales here, cause it's one of the things you otherwise lack if you forgo torkoal)
removed some fluff to make room for more crucial infos. let me know if you want me to take a look at this again :zoruapwead:

Encore locks foes like Raging Bolt, Iron Moth, and Tera Fire Zamazenta into setup moves while shutting down defensive foes like Toxapex, Gliscor, and Blissey, (bliss arent the most common, so i'd replace it with something like garg/tinglu/clef) giving free easy entry to powerful teammates like Raging Bolt and Roaring Moon. Healing Wish gives a weakened offensive teammate a new lease on life to terrorize the opposing team, and Will-O-Wisp neuters physical attackers like Roaring Moon, Dragonite, and Zamazenta Tera Ghost gives Ninetales a free turn to use Will-O-Wisp or Encore against the dangerous Zamazenta while also blocking opposing Rapid Spin.
