Ninetales @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Ghost
Timid Nature
- Weather Ball
- Encore
- Healing Wish
- Will-O-Wisp
Turns out you can teach an old fox new tricks! Ninetales finds itself as an alternative sun setter in OU, leveraging the all-important Encore and Healing Wish and decent Speed tier over its bulkier and entry hazard-centric competition in Torkoal. Encore locks foes like Raging Bolt, Iron Moth, and Tera Fire Zamazenta into setup moves while shutting down defensive foes like Toxapex, Gliscor, and Clefable, giving easy entry to powerful teammates. Healing Wish gives a weakened offensive teammate a new lease on life to terrorize the opposing team, and Will-O-Wisp neuters physical attackers like Roaring Moon, Dragonite, and Zamazenta. Tera Ghost gives Ninetales a free turn to use Will-O-Wisp or Encore against the dangerous Zamazenta and blocks Rapid Spin. Ninetales should exclusively be used on offensive sun teams loaded with powerful threats like Raging Bolt, Walking Wake, Great Tusk, and Roaring Moon that aim to quickly dismantle teams with their sheer damage output. Great Tusk in particular alongside Hatterene is fantastic for providing hazard control, which Ninetales lacks over Torkoal.
