New UU - Ambipom Last Resorter Supporting Team

As you may know, I don't know how to use the pokemon pictures and such. Sorry in advance if it isn't pretty.

Just like the title suggests, I wanted to make a team built around Ambipom's Last Resort moveset. There are some steels and ghosts that block him, but I think he will be a powerhouse in the new UU metagame if that is eliminated...so here goes.

Arcanine (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate

Registeel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/60 Atk/198 SDef
Careful nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Explosion
---
Ambipom (M) @ Silk Scarf

Regice @ Leftovers

Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Charge Beam
- Ice Beam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
---
Altaria (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP/200 Def/58 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Roost
- Toxic
- Dragon Pulse
- Flamethrower
---

Team Counters:
Ludicolo
Rain Dance
Stallrein (BLAHH)
Surf beamers (bulky waters, some Milotics)

Can't think of much others right now but there is more. Mainly just to replace Mismagius, and guard against Ludicolo/Rain teams. Stallrein isn't too much of a factor, but it is there.

may i suggest replacing mismagius wth regice?
regice@leftovers
252HP/200sp.def/56def
calm
-charge beam
-ice beam
-rest
-sleep talk

this thing lasts forever. 56 def EVs to take a couple of physical hits.
after a few sp.atk raises from charge beam, it's an absoulte beast. it also takes care of your bulky water/ludicolo problems.

hope i helped

I appreciate the helpful input sir. I will try this out later.

Hi

Your Electrode lead is doing very little for you atm. It is a pretty terrible revenge killer, cannot set up stealth rock, and you will find yourself exploding with it and playing 5-6 down in the majority of your matches. I think an anti-lead Arcanine would be a much better choice for this team:

Arcanine @ Lum Berry
Adamant - Intimidate
192 HP, 252 Atk, 64 Spe

- Flare Blitz
- Thunder Fang
- Extremespeed
- Toxic

Arcanine makes a great leading pokemon with its Extremespeed priority attack letting it take out faster foes, and a powerful Flare Blitz to hurt anything neutral that thinks about staying in. The Spe EVs let you outrun max speed Adamant Honchkrow and Timid Abomasnow, since the majority of pokemon faster than this are either taken care of by Extremespeed or Arcanine has no use outrunning. Fortuitously, by putting the remaining EVs into HP, Arcanine hits a number divisible by 4 + 1 (369), allowing it to come into SR 4 times without dying. Max attack is obvious to get the strongest hits you can with your physical attacks. Toxic allows you to wreck Arcanine's counters, as the majority of Milotic and Slowbro absolutely despise Toxic. It is also a great way to take out a 1HP Froslass who you fear will Destiny Bond. To get an idea of this things bulk, with Intimidate, it takes 25% of its health at most from Ambipom's Fake Out, meaning you can 2HKO it with Extremespeed if it stays in, or get a very powerful hit on it before it switches out. Arcanine adds a lot more to your team than Electrode ever does, and gives your team an excellent revenge killer and physical switch in later on in the game. Its Fire attacks are great at taking out the steel types that so badly wall your Ambipom.

On your Probopass, I would strongly recommend you run Taunt over Power Gem. Steelix is one of the best phazers in UU and many carry Roar, meaning that it can easily get rid of you as you Magnet Rise. Also, with the EV spread you are currently running, you outspeed min speed Registeel by 2 points, and Taunt is extremely helpful in taking it down. Otherwise, it can just keep on Resting off the damage you do to it with Earth Power and will simply set up on you. It also allows Probopass to serve another purpose than to simply trap steel types, as Taunt is a great move to have in general to shut down Rest CMers (read: CroTomb), especially with Probopasses impressive defenses. It is never going to sweep with Power Gem anyway, and from its poor SpA stat, you're not going to be hitting much hard with even a max SpA STAB Power Gem. Better to help it take out the things it is designed to.

Ambipom is crying out for Silk Scarf over Life Orb. In total, attacks from Silk Scarf Ambipom do only 7% less damage than those from a Life Orb variant, and you don't lose 10% of your health with every attack. This becomes even more significant when you realise that even Fake Out, which is meant to be a free hit, will oftentimes take more health from you with LO than it will from the opponent. You also have no spinner and no really reliable way of preventing SR going up, meaning that with all this residual damage, your star will only get 2 switch in opportunities, if that.

All I can really see right now. I just want to stress that Last Resort Ambipom is one of the monkey's lesser seen sets for a reason - the lead ape set is better in almost every way. Even with STAB Last Resort and LO, Ambipom doesn't hit memorably hard. Maybe its best to use it simply as a revenge killer and give it attacks in every slot - Return/U-turn/Fake Out/Brick Break makes a great revenge pokemon that can severely weaken a team over the long run. Personally, that is the set I would use instead of the Last Resort one =/.

Anyway, hope this helps. Good luck with your team =).

Update: Wow that Regice idea has been working out great. The final details of the team have pros and cons just like all teams do. It's good to have a final review of the game of what counters it and such.

Pros: The team, as designed often kills very quickly. Gallade's moveset is just a powerhouse, and being able to take special hits from any type of walls that output from the special end period WILL be getting anal'd. Ambipom gives choice scarfers that are usually frail a nice slap and flee, and last resorts all non resisting walls for a GRUSOME chunk of health. If Electrode happens to taunt a tank or wall that is outputting special moves, who cares if it dies, free Swords Dance for Gallade. After people catch on though, it will be time to start hitting on the first turn due to choice scarfers being switched in on the swords dances and such.

Cons: Staraptor WOULD be a problem if it wasn't choiced, but thankfully, it almost always is. Life Orb versions of Staraptor can be stalled with guessing, at the cost of the guesses not being in your favor. Another thing that counters my team that isn't as common, is a rock polishing Torterra with stone edge and EQ. The team can play around it occassionally, but by no means is it fun at all. We're looking at 2 members of the team dying to get rid of that thing. Another problem is Medicham and Hitmonlee that are not choiced. Without them being choiced, they can do some serious damage if they are deployed on my walls. I'll risk having to give one of them up and can be playing a bad game for the rest of the way. Thankfully, Ambipom will scare them off, because if they are not choiced, they definitely aren't too fast. It comes with the cost of a lost wall, though, which I'm not exactly too comfortable with.

Right now I'm looking at changing Probopass. He doesn't seem to be needed a lot of the time. He just comes in, sets some rocks, and then other members take care of what is needed. Steels aren't too much of a threat at the moment, and it seems that Gallade is doing Probopass' job much better. It doesn't seem like a necessity to trap steels in order to take them out, which is what I thought initially.

I will be re thinking my team a bit, but if any of you come up with something nice, I would like to know as well. Thanks for reading.

Hey Legacy Rider, you posted just as I was typing my thoughts. Would you be able to fill me in on this Ape Lead? Primeape is it?

The whole reason for my Electrode lead is for Froslass. I really just can't find a counter to it in this metagame. About 60% of teams I encounter at least are packing one, if not leading with them. I usually am playing 5 down, but with this team, it hits so hard to the point where it's ok to be playing 5 down as long as the game doesn't drag out. The mindset is for Gallade to take down the walls with his excellent SD and coverage, then Ambipom to finish off. For suspected scarfers or faster pokemon, I switch to my tanks/walls.

I can see the lead Arcanine hitting with a surprise toxic to Froslass, so I will definitely take that into consideration. But I do really like a taunting Electrode for the time being.

Your input is appreciated and it has been helpful, thank you :)

Sorry, I am too used to saying LeadApe from OU, referring to Infernape. What I was actually talking about is the "Free Hits" set in Ambipom's analysis, i.e. I was saying you should change the Last Resort set you were using to that one, as I find it to be a much more effective set in general. I'm glad I could be of some help, but I still think that Arcanine will help you way more than Electrode will =p.

Very nice Legacy Raider (sorry about the misspell previously). The team works much better with Arcanine. He can hit around so many things and weaken so many pokes for the rest of the team to pick off, it's awesome.

Apparently, I don't need to change my Probopass, but if the time comes, I might do so, but it isn't likely for the time being. Thank you both for your help :D

Update: I just got anal'd by Mismagius. I figured what I wanted and what can be changed.

I think I'll keep Arcanine/Gallade/Ambipom. They work well together, and when supported, they never let me down. All I need is a good defensive trio that can support each other and hold out on faster opponents until they got worn down.

My candidates were Mismagius, Raikou, Altaria, Clefable, Spiritomb, Drapion, Regice, Registeel, Nidoqueen, Slowbro, and Tangrowth. I'll try and mix something up for the last 3, but I could definitely use some help.

I find myself always needing stealth rocks when I support 3 pokemon together decently.

Edit update: Well for now I'll go with the trio of Drapion/Torterra/Regice. Not exactly my cup of tea, but it will have to do for now.

Edit update #2: Ok so I went with Torterra, Drapion, and Regice, and let me tell you folks, DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. I got SEVERELY mauled for that. So I'm back to Altaria, Clefable, and Regice.

Ok guys, I'm simply not able to counter Mismagius at this point. Any help? Drapion and Spiritomb seem like the only answer, but they really don't fit on my team. Suggestions and tips please?

If you think that Mismagius is being dead weight, why not try both Spiritomb and Drapion in that spot and see which works better?

I have a very simple Solution for mismagius. Drop Probopass for Registeel with Iron Head/Earthquake/StealthRock/Rest(or Boom).

So the Regice is working out well? Glad I could help!!

If Mismagius is a problem, then replace Probopass with Registeel. Iron head/EQ/SR/T-Wave or explosion should send mismagius back to its pokeball.

If Torterra is a problem: I THINK that Regice can survive a stone edge and then annihilate it with ice beam. safer if you switch in on the rock polish.

My apologies for not updating the first post. That's what my team looks like for now. Can someone tell me how to use icons to make my RMT look better? It might be annoying for some haha. I will try and use this for now, and brainstorm tomorrow and then come back if I'm stumped again. Thanks again everyone ^_^.

Theres a yellow box with a mountain on it, click it and cp your image link.
Where are your comments?

I'll test it out. I'll fill in my comments later, I deleted them when I posted the new team. So many changes heh. I will have it done tomorrow, long night ~_~.
