First documented way back in December 2009 in French, but not documented in English until 2 days ago.

So what this glitch actually does is outside of battle, allows Giratina to change Forme without changing its stats. So it's possible to switch Giratina-O's Griseous Orb with another item (changing them back to Giratina-A) while having them keep Giratina-O's stats, and it's possible to give the Griseous Orb to Giratina-A (changing them to Giratina-O) while having them keep Giratina-A's stats. Abilities remain normal, so Giratina-O will still always have Levitate and Giratina-A will still always have Pressure.
Most notably, these altered stats persist during link battles, across a save & reset, and even across trades (Giratina-A only).
If we were to replicate the effect of this glitch closely in Gen IV Ubers, we'd get this:
(As an aside, it might be worth mentioning the two instances in-game where it's possible for Giratina-O to hold a different item or no item. The first is naturally in Platinum's Distortion World; Trick the wild Giratina an item or even trade another Giratina over beforehand and have them battle Cyrus. The second is in a DLC tournament in B2W2's PWT, where Fantina has a Giratina-O holding a Ghost Gem.)

If we were to replicate the effect of this glitch closely in Gen IV Ubers, we'd get this:
- If "Giratina-O" holds a Griseous Orb, it shows up as Giratina-O's sprite and has Levitate. If "Giratina-O" holds any other item (or no item), it keeps Giratina-O's stats, but shows up as Giratina-A's sprite and has Pressure.
- If "Giratina-A" holds no item or a non-Griseous Orb item, it shows up as Giratina-A's sprite and has Pressure. If "Giratina-A" holds a Griseous Orb, it keeps Giratina-A's stats (plus the boosts from the Griseous Orb), but shows up as Giratina-O's sprite and has Levitate.
- Giratina-A's sprite always has Pressure and always holds no item or a non-Griseous Orb item. But its base stats can be either Giratina-A's base stats or Giratina-O's base stats.
- Giratina-O's sprite always has Levitate and always holds a Griseous Orb. But its base stats can be either Giratina-O's base stats or Giratina-A's base stats.
