[SET]
name: HEAVY METAL (Bulky Dragon Dance)
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Morning Sun / Moonlight
move 3: Sunsteel Strike
move 4: Psychic Fangs / Earthquake / Rock Blast
item: Weakness Policy / Rocky Helmet
ability: Prism Armor
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 140 Def / 116 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* Necrozma-DM is a terrifying Dragon Dance sweeper, with its stellar typing and bulk allowing it ample opportunity to set up.

* Moonlight is an alternative to Morning Sun due to its slightly longer animation, allowing for slightly more efficient timer stalling should it be necessary.

* Psychic Fangs is taken over Photon Geyser to make Max Mindstorm physical, allowing for the most damage possible on targets like Kyogre.

* Earthquake provides an option to boost Special Defense via Max Quake, making Necrozma-DM extremely difficult to take down, while also hitting Eternatus and Zacian-C super effectively.

* Rock Blast can be used to pressure Ho-Oh heavily and bypass Substitutes thanks its multiple hits.

Items
========

* Weakness Policy is the preferred item, taking maximum advantage of Necrozma-DM’s ability to tank super effective hits with its bulk and Prism Armor.

* Rocky Helmet is useful as a way to punish Pokemon like Zacian-C and Urshifu-S, potentially chipping them down into range of a KO. This is especially useful against Zacian-C, forcing it to take irreversible chip damage for using any of its moves.

* Lum Berry is also useful for more consistent setup, allowing Necrozma-DM to stomach a burn or paralysis while using Dragon Dance.

EV Spreads
========

* 252 HP / 140 Def / 116 Spe with Impish - this spread allows Necrozma-DM to outspeed Timid Yveltal after a Dragon Dance, while also having enough Defense to avoid a 2HKO from Adamant Zacian-C.

* 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 Spe with Impish - this spread will allow Necrozma-DM to outrun Timid Zapdos and Jolly Garchomp after a Dragon Dance.

[SET]
name: Offensive Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Sunsteel Strike
move 3: Earthquake / Rock Blast
move 4: Psychic Fangs / Rock Blast
item: Weakness Policy / Lum Berry
ability: Prism Armor
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 124 HP / 252 Atk / 132 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

* With this set, Necrozma-DM uses its impressive natural bulk and Dragon Dance to raise its already incredible power to simply raise levels, as well as patching up its rather lackluster Speed.

* By maximizing its Attack EVs, Necrozma-DM is able to serve as both wallbreaker and sweeper with one set. It can to threaten even Unaware Quagsire due to the sheer power of fully invested Max Mindstorms.

* Psychic Fangs is preferred over Photon Geyser to enable a physical Max Mindstorm.

* Earthquake is useful against other Necrozma-DM, as well as hitting Zacian-C super effectively, though this does make it more vulnerable to Ditto.

* Rock Blast is very helpful against Ho-Oh and Yveltal. A +1 Adamant Max Rockfall has a very high chance to OHKO Yveltal undergoing Dynamax

Items
========

* Weakness Policy is the most consistent item, punishing super-effective attacks with huge boosts.

* Lum Berry allows Necrozma-DM to get a boost up more securely, not minding status from the likes of Hippowdon or Swampert.

* Life Orb gives Necrozma-DM even more power to work with, allowing it to consistently 2HKO Quagsire with Max Mindstorm, and allowing a boosted Max Rockfall to always OHKO Yveltal undergoing Dynamax after Stealth Rock.

* Rocky Helmet can be used to punish contact moves, as Necrozma-DM still has excellent bulk without defense investment.

EV Spreads
========

* 124 HP / 252 Atk / 132 Spe with Adamant - This allows Necrozma-DM to outrun Zapdos and Garchomp after a Dragon Dance.

* 60 HP / 252 Atk / 196 Spe with Jolly - This will allow Necrozma-DM to outspeed Eternatus after a Dragon Dance

[SET]
name: Cosmic Power
move 1: Cosmic Power
move 2: Morning Sun / Moonlight
move 3: Stored Power
move 4: Sunsteel Strike
item: Rocky Helmet
ability: Prism Armor
nature: Relaxed
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

* This settakes full advantage of Necrozma-DM's impressive defensive profile.

* Moonlight is an alternative to Morning Sun due to its slightly longer animation, allowing for slightly more efficient timer stalling should it be necessary.

* Stored Power turns Necrozma-DM's defensive boosts into offensive pressure; this also has the benefit of effectively bypassing Quagsire's Unaware.

Items
========

* Rocky Helmet is the most sensible item, making Necrozma-DM less passive while setting up against physical threats, notably Zacian-C.

* Weakness Policy can be used to give Necrozma-DM a bit more offensive pressure when activated, boosting both of its offenses while additionally giving Stored Power 80 more Base Power.

* Leftovers can be useful for some passive recovery, lessening the need to use Morning Sun's limited 8 PP.

[SET]
name: Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Morning Sun / Moonlight
move 3: Stored Power
move 4: Flash Cannon
item: Weakness Policy
ability: Prism Armor
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
ivs: 0 Atk

[SET COMMENTS]

* With this set, Necrozma-DM utilizes its great bulk and serviceable Special Attack to become a rather threatening Calm Mind sweeper.

* Stored Power already matches Photon Geyser's Base Power after activating Weakness Policy activation and getting one Calm Mind boost, or after getting three Calm Mind boosts. Continually increasing its Base Power also effectively bypasses Unaware.

* Heat Wave can be used as coverage for Ferrothorn, other Necrozma-DM, and Zacian-C.

* This set uses Dynamax particularly well , as Stored Power becomes a 130 BP Max Mindstorm, and Max Steelspike's Defense boosts contribute to both Necrozma-DM’s survivability and Stored Power's Base Power.

Items
========

* Weakness Policy is the preferred item, providing huge boosts to both Necrozma-DM's Special Attack and Stored Power's base power upon taking a super effective attack.

* Leftovers can be used to provide some passive recovery, better conserving Necrozma-DM's limited Morning Sun PP.

* Kee Berry also deserves a mention, as the Defense boost pairs nicely with the Special Defense boosts from Calm Mind, increasing Necrozma-DM's survivability.

Alrighty, there’s my first draft of NDM done. Hopefully I covered enough. I figured slashing in Moonlight is worth a mention considering it does have that one advantage, albeit very niche.

I also tried to offer a few more alternate items in the items section to help with item clause related issues, without going too far into gimmick territory of course.

I have very little experience with the Calm Mind set, so I’m welcome to any insight about it that anyone thinks I should cover in addition.

———

I decided to write a short opening blurb about Necrozma in general, if this isn’t something that you guys want, I will remove it :)

I also neglected to mention heat wave as a coverage option on the calm mind set in my initial analysis. I fixed that, but I’m not sure if it should be slashed, however, since flash cannon still hits ZC decently, which is the most important thing to consider imo.

Sorry for the wait, checking this now!

Just a general thing though, try to brush up on the grammar standards a bit. For example, Necrozma Dusk Mane should be changed to "Necrozma-DM", capitalize move names like Dragon Dance, avoid terms like "DDer", etc.

I'd also cool it a bit with the names. I realize you like that, but giving every set a custom name probably won't fly with GP. I'd say, pick your favorite name and make it the "one"!

Bulky Dragon Dance

-I think for Rocky Helmet, it's worth nothing that it lets Necrozma-DM more effectively punish Zacian since it'll take chip damage for any of its moves, useful since this set is a common switch-in to it!

- I'd remove the Life Orb mention, I think the offensive Dragon Dance set makes better use of that, the recoil damage sorta kills what makes this set tick imo. I don't mind the Lum Berry mention though.

- For EVs it's best to format them like: "252 HP / 140 Def / 116 Spe with Impish:". Reason for this is to help people who suck at math while EVing their mons ingame lol.

- I'd mention that the 132 Spe spread outspeeds Garchomp after a Dragon Dance too. I realize Garchomp isn't common, but its a nice thing to outspeed thanks to Max Steelspike!

Offensive Dragon Dance

- Something important to note with analyses, as that as a rule they don't assume someone is reading every set, so you will have to explain stuff like ,Psychic Fangs, Earthquake, and Rock Blast again. Make sure the wording is different, or GP will ask you to change it!

- Speaking of Rock Blast, I'd mention that Adamant has an 81% chance of OHKOing Dynamax Yveltal after Stealth Rock with +1 Max Rockfall, which is pretty neat!

- This is the set where I'd mention Life Orb, the power increase can catch stuff by surprise (to use an example you don't have to mention: +1 LO Max Rockfall becomes a guranteed OHKO after SR against Offensive Dynamax Yveltal!)

- I'd add an EVs section, with the first being the usual "this outspeeds Zapdos and Garchomp after a DD". The 2nd should probably be 60 HP / 252 Atk / 196 Spe Jolly. This outspeeds Eternatus a Dragon Dance.

Cosmic Power

- I think for Rocky Helmet, its worth mentioning that it makes you less passive when setting up against physical threats such as Zacian-C.

Calm Mind

- I think it's worth mentioning that CM Necrozma-DM is actually a pretty good Dynamaxer, as Stored Power becoms a 130 BP Max Mindstorm, and Max Steelspike contributes to Stored Power later. So basically with Weakness Policy, Calm Mind Necrozma-DM can actually start threatining stuff earlier!

Anyways that's about all I got. Implement this stuff, and you get a QC stamp from me!

Big post omg
Thanks a lot for this! I will tune it up as soon as I get a chance. Really appreciate the feedback :)

——

Alright I tweaked the analysis per your suggestions, and explained the offensive DD set in more detail. Hope this is more of what you’re looking for. Again thanks a lot for the feedback!

Only things I have left are: Gotta capitalize set names, natures (blame Gamefreak!) and the Adamant Max Rockfall OHKO on Yveltal requires a boost if you wanna use LO.

Otherwise, QC Approved 1/2!

I think I did mention that you needed to be at +1, but I’ll double check, maybe I only mentioned it the first time I brought up max rockfall, and I’ll be sure to go through and capitalize nature names and the like. Thanks!

Edit - I did forget to mention that you need a boost in the Lorb mention, that has been fixed, as well as the capitalization on moves, natures and the like.

Very comprehensive overview of all the major sets.

I wonder if it is possible to put even more emphasis on the fact that first two sets are the basis of most of what's going on with Necrozma-DM in practice, just to give the reader an accurate picture of the reality of the ladder as it pertains to this particular mon.

Perhaps a word about Tapu Fini/Misty Terrain, or Landorus as partners merits consideration somewhere? Whatever the case, I wager yourself and Kiby are the two people here who have by far the most hours piloting Dusk-Mane in Series 12 so far, so I am happy to defer to your judgment on this.

*With this set, Necrozma-DM utilizes it’s great bulk and serviceable Special Attack to become a rather threatening Calm Mind sweeper.
Also, use of both super-effective and super effectively (under Calm Mind set) in the same write-up seems like a minor uniformity issue to me, dunno. I assume this is just a case of missing hyphen, as super-effectively appears earlier?

I completely agree that fini and/or Lando are great considerations. Perhaps I’ll add that somewhere, I was just trying to refrain from trying to steer the reader in a certain direction as to how to build their team. Also, yes that was a missing hyphen, thanks for pointing it out lol :)
