Hi everyone!
I'm a casual OU player (around 1500-1600 Elo) and lately I've been playing a lot with this Sticky Offense. I've had several successes so far and not that much problems, but I'm sure my team can be improved a lot.
Here is the team:
Ribombee @ Focus Sash
Ability: Shield Dust
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sticky Web
- Stun Spore
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power [Fire]
The usual Sticky Web setter for Offensive Teams. (one of my favorite mons too). I like how it's really fast, it can set up Sticky Web very easily and has enough offensive presence to force out threats like Garchomp or Kommo-o. Stun Spore has multiple advantages over Quiver Dance, allowing it to cripple many setup sweepers as well as Scarf Landorus and Tornadus, which are a pain in the ass for every Sticky Web team. Focus Sash allows Ribombee to always set up Sticky Web, and to always survive a hit and possibly paralyze the opponent should Sticky Web be hard to set up. Shield Dust can be useful against Fake Out users like Lopunny and Medicham but Sweet Veil could prove useful to provide free switch ins on predicted Spores, as well as countering Spore Breloom.
Garchomp @ Rockium Z
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
I felt like I needed a SR setter somehow, and realized the offensive Garchomp works incredibly great with Sticky Webs up. Almost all of its check are crippled by Sticky Web, and if you SD on the switch, you can sweep very easily, even early-game. Stealth Rock adds some utility to this set. I felt like adding the Z move on him, which helps breaking past would be counters such as Landorus T or Gyarados, and giving a reliable Rock-type nuke for dangerous mons.
Volcarona @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Roost
This set is my response to Fairy and Grass types, to which my team is quite weak (especially Fairy). It works great on Sticky because its mere presence makes the opponent think twice before doing Defog, as Stealth Rock is vital to keep Volcarona out. The bulky set still packs a lot of power, while also allowing Volcarona to win against Motisma Wash, Tornadus and other would-be checks with one Quiver Dance. Full defense investment helps bringing Volcarona safely on threats like Kartana.
Medicham-Mega @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Fake Out
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt
My wallbreaker. It hits like a truck. More often than not, there is absolutely nothing on the opponent team that can come on Medicham with Sticky Webs up (and even without them), as it can 2HKO almost all the metagame. It also eases the matchup against stall teams which don't care about Sticky Webs. Zen Headbutt is here mostly for Toxapex, and Ice Punch for Lando and Garchomp, as well as paralyzed Tornadus.
Serperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 56 HP / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Leech Seed
Serperior serves as a good check to most of the prominent Water types in the metagame, most notably Greninja. It also has a great Speed which combines great with Sticky Webs. Not that much Pokemon can come in on Leaf Storm + HP Fire, and the others are vulnerable to Leech Seed. I was thinking of replacing Substitute with Defog, because even though Stealth Rocks won't be often on my side if the opponents is bothered by the Sticky Webs, it still is a problem for Volcarona. I also need to get rid of any Spikes because all my mons are grounded.
Greninja @ Expert Belt
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Gunk Shot
- Spikes
- Rock Slide
This Greninja is useful to gain momentum against complicated matchups like Tornadus T. It also helps dealing with Fairy Types or setup sweepers like Volcarona. It's essentially a revenge killer thanks to its natural great Speed tier, which is even better with Sticky Webs, allowing it to OHKO most Alakazam. I must admit that out of my team, it feels like this is the least useful Pokemon, as much of his work is already done very good by other Pokemon of the team. Putting Spikes is a good thing to help break certain threats.
Overall, I feel like the biggest problem in my team is a lack of Flying and Ground resistances, which makes me very weak to Tornadus T, Landorus T DD or Scarf and to a lesser extent, Hawlucha. I also have problems with Kommo-o if it manages to set up Stealth Rock and make his Z move. My only counter to it is Ribombee which will most likely die very early in the game. In general I think I can have difficulties against bulkier teams and mons like CM Clefable, Gliscor. What do you guys think?
