The Team:
Blastoise @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Water Pulse
- Aura Sphere
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Beam
I wanted to make a team based around Mega Blastoise, one of my favourite Mega Evolutions. I wanted to use Mega Blastoise as a wallbreaker. There are hardly any switch ins to this monster, except bulky waters like Azumarill and SpDef Rotom-W. Blastoise also cannot touch Mega Venusaur. I run 252 speed to catch things off guard, such as Adamant Breloom, Defensive Landorus and Bulky Rotom-W. I use Mega Blastoise as my way to get rid of hazards, as I feel all of Latias moves are necessary.
I run Water Pulse over Hydro Pump because of 100% accuracy, and also confusion has helped me in win battles. Aura Sphere helps hit steel types like Ferrothorn.
Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Healing Wish
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
As stated previously, Mega Blastoise cannot touch Mega Venusaur. So, the best possible solution for me was Latias, as I can switch in to Venusaur, and also things that hurt this team, like Rotom-W and Keldeo. Latias also works well with Blastoise because due to Mega Blastoise’s natural bulk, I can Healing Wish to a worn down Mega Blastoise from switching in to things like Talonflame, and proceed to break walls. Hidden Power Fire is to take out Ferrothorn and other Steel types.
Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance
- Knock Off
Bisharp is nice because I have both Stealth Rocks and Spikes on my team. I also needed some priority on my team, as well as a decent check to Latios and Tyranitar. Knock Off support is nice to help Eviolite pokes like Chansey. I am contemplating removing Swords Dance for Pursuit, so I can trap Latios/Latias, as I don't really find many opportunities to Swords Dance. Iron Head is for STAB to Azumarill, Tyranitar and the like. I'm honestly not too sure what the most common EV spread for Bisharp is, (more hp over speed?) so please forgive me if I've completely butchered the main purpose of Bisharp.
(Sorry for the giant Landorus, it's the smallest I could make it)
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 92 Spe
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock
Standard.Landorus-Therian. Good switch in to a lot of physical pokes like Garchomp, Diggersby, Scizor etc. Decent synergy with Blastoise as well, as Blastoise can switch in to super effective hits from Crawdaunt, Mamoswine and the like. 92 Speed helps outspeed Adamant Breloom and non-Scarf Magnezone. I prefer to run Knock Off over Stone Edge just because of the utility it provides, but I do find myself in circumstances where I am rendered useless against things Flying types like Mandibuzz and Togekiss.
Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Spikes
Ferrothorn is on the team as an answer to what this team has trouble with: Azumarill. Also a good switch in to things like Landorus and Chansey etc. as I can proceed to set up spikes.
Fairy types hit this team pretty hard, as I have no fairy resistance, so Ferrothorn seemed like a nice fit. The Special Defense investment it to switch in on Mega Gardevoir and Sylveon, and not get destryoed by HP Fire Latios/Latias.
Garchomp @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
The last member on my team. Garchomp is here to provide raw physical power that this team lacks. Garchomp just seemed like the best scarfed pokemon to compliment the team. I was also thinking about using Scarfed Terrakion, as fighting STAB hits things like Ferrothorn and Skarmory that otherwise switch in on Garchomp.
I did have Fire Fang over Stone Edge originally to hit Scizor and Ferrothorn, but since I didn't have many ways of hitting flying types super effectively, I felt Stone Edge was more beneficial.
Conclusion: I'm a relatively intermediate competitive Pokemon player, which is the main reason on posting here, since learning is the best way of improving. I don't know too much about team building. I probably haven't tested this team enough, I'm just looking for ways to strengthen this team as I progress the ladder (around 1500s atm). I have had around 30 games with this team, with pretty good success so far. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks!
