Introduction
I've been trying to get into competitive battling with pokemon and something about OU just doesn't click with me. So here I am. I made this sandstorm team for one reason, I wanted to use drilbur. Most of these pokemon have standard sets. I didn't reinvent the wheel, but I Have tested this team quite a bit. It has gone through many iterations. It definitely has some glaring weaknesses, but it can hold it's own. I'm looking for advice and/or comments on my team.

Nostrils (Hippopotas) (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Sand Stream
Level: 5
EVs: 132 HP / 20 Atk / 212 Def / 100 SDef / 20 Spd
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Whirlwind
This is a sandstorm team, so obviously I needed a permanent sandstorm. To my knowledge hippopotas is the only one in the tier who has sand stream. Fortunately he other uses besides that. He hits like a truck with stab earthquakes. Thanks to his bulk can take hits from boosted sweepers and whirlwind them out. He's also my stealth rocker. All around a versatile pokemon. It's always nice when you set-up stealth rocks and still take out your opponent with an earthquake.
Actually A Tiger (Drilbur) (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sand Rush
Level: 5
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 Def / 212 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Shadow Claw
- Swords Dance
The damage that comes from this pokemon is borderline stupid. If you can gain some offensive momentum with this bad boy and your opponent isn't prepared you can take out a whole team. With sand rush you are out-speeding almost everything. Even common water type shell smashers are slower than you after a single shell smash and then they get one shotted by earthquake. Originally I had rapid spin on this set instead of sword dance. I didn't feel like risking my main damage dealer to spin some hazards, but that's just personal preference.
Tentacles (Lileep) (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Storm Drain
Level: 5
EVs: 228 HP / 220 Def / 60 SDef
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- AncientPower
- Toxic
A very common wall in LC for good reason. With two reliable forms of recovery and toxic to stall it can go a long way. It's a great addition to my team because it can deal with any water types that would normally prey on my ground types. Ancient Power is for dealing with murkrow. Granted it doesn't annihilate murkrow, but it stops you from being walled. Plus that 10% to power up can change the outcome of a game.
Green Wafer (Bronzor) @ Eviolite
Trait: Levitate
Level: 5
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 148 Def / 164 SAtk / 148 SDef / 48 Spd
Modest Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Calm Mind
- Flash Cannon
THIS GUY IS SUCH A BAMF I HAVE TO TALK IN ALL CAPS. sorry I'll stop. Seriously though I can't count on my fingers how many times bronzor has turned a 1v6 into a win (let's ignore the fact that I ever get into these situations to begin with). One of the main strengths of this set is the element of surprise. People will let you set up two or three calm minds thinking that a status ailment has crippled you or that they can just wear you down. When you whip out the rest followed by sleep talk it may already be too late. I honestly couldn't tell you why this set isn't the most popular bronzor set. Very few pokemon can take this guy out and that list get's even smaller after a single calm mind. Of course he can easily be stopped by roar or whirlwind, but it seems that this isn't something that's on every team.
Test this slut (Misdreavus) (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Levitate
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 120 Def / 80 SDef / 240 Spd
Timid Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Heal Bell
This is my sort of support pokemon. It can cripple the fighting types that are so dominant by switching into a fighting type move and burning it. Heal bell is almost exclusively for saving drilbur or mienfoo from a burn or paralysis. hp fire may seem kinda stupid at first and it very well maybe stupid. But let me give you my reasoning. Originally I had hp fighting specifically for dealing with porygon. However it seems the most common type of porygon is eviolite porygon with recover. hp fighting doesn't hit hard enough and you get walled anyway. So I took fire to deal with snorunt who is very good at throwing a wrench into my plans.
He's OP I gotta try 'em (Mienfoo) (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Regenerator
Level: 5
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 156 HP / 76 Atk / 196 Def / 76 Spd
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Fake Out
The infamous mienfoo, one of the most annoying pokemon in the tier. The combination of fake out, U-turn, and regenerator let's you get in and then out and then come back with plenty of health. I only very recently added this pokemon to my team. Originally he was a pawniard. I feel like I had difficulty using pawniard to his full potential so I ended up switching him out. I'm not against bringing a sucker punch/pursuit pawniard back to deal with snorunt, but I think I need to be sold on it first.
Conclusion
Yes, this team has problems, but it still can go a long way. I've laddered up to about 1750 with this team which isn't super good, but it's not bad. I blame most of my losses on my shitty pokemon skills anyway. Give me all your comments, insults, and criticism I accept them all.
