[OVERVIEW]

Mudsdale differentiates itself from other Stealth Rock setters like Copperajah, Bronzong, and Diancie with its consistency in handling physical attackers such as Flygon, Tyrantrum, and Sirfetch'd. Whereas the former generally cannot hold up against these potent wallbreakers and the latter two are somewhat shaky answers, Mudsdale's solid physical bulk, ability in Stamina, and typing help it match offensive power with defensive might. Mudsdale also lacks passivity issues thanks to its high Attack and strong moves in STAB Earthquake and Body Press, the latter of which can take advantage of Stamina boosts. Mudsdale is otherwise far too easily to overwhelm with common special attackers like Starmie, Blastoise, and Nasty Plot Salazzle. Additionally, Mudsdale is an ineffective Volt Switch deterrent because the most common Volt Switch user, Rotom-C, can easily OHKO it with Leaf Storm, and it's also very slow.

Although Toxic is typically preferred so Mudsdale can prevent common switch-ins like Dhelmise, Decidueye, and Vaporeon from easily answering it, Body Press synergizes nicely with Stamina and helps against foes like Flygon and Braviary. Smack Down is useful for letting Mudsdale hit Ground-immune foes like Flygon, Bronzong, and Xatu with Earthquake, and it also does significant damage to Talonflame. Alternatively, Protect helps Mudsdale accumulate poison damage, gain extra health from Leftovers, and scout Choice item attackers like Rotom-C and Choice Specs Decidueye. You can consider running 64 Special Defense EVs to avoid Salazzle from OHKOing Mudsdale with +2 Fire Blast, although this benchmark is rarely necessary.

Mudsdale is vulnerable to powerful special attackers such as Goodra, Rotom-C, and Starmie, so it benefits from teammates like Sylveon, Assault Vest Copperajah, and Mantine that can take attacks from such foes. Mudsdale is a great answer to opposing Rock-types such as Tyrantrum and Aerodactyl, so pair it with Fire-types like Talonflame, Salazzle, and Arcanine. In return, these Pokemon help against Grass- and Ice-types. Similarly, Mudsdale is effective at luring in and crippling bulky Water-types with Toxic; teammates like Shell Smash Blastoise and Swords Dance Escavalier appreciate this. Mudsdale appreciates the support of Grass-types like Vileplume, Dhelmise, and Roserade, which handle opposing Water- and Grass-types. Dhelmise also helps Mudsdale's longevity with Rapid Spin, while Roserade forms an entry hazard stacking core with it.

Roar prevents Substitute setup sweepers like Braviary and Blastoise from taking advantage of Mudsdale as easily. Payback helps against foes like Decidueye and Dhelmise and means Mudsdale doesn't need to waste a turn using Smack Down to deal with Xatu and Bronzong. Choice Band sets make use of Mudsdale's incredible Attack stat and solid coverage moves to turn it into a good wallbreaker, although it's very prediction reliant and at risk of being setup fodder for foes like Flygon and Decidueye.

Checks and Counters
====

**Grass-types**: Rotom-C and Decidueye are immune to or resist Earthquake, force Mudsdale out, and can set up with Nasty Plot and Swords Dance. Vileplume has immense physical bulk augmented by Strength Sap, and it's immune to Toxic. Dhelmise can spin away Mudsdale's Stealth Rock, although doing so may negatively affect its ability to beat Toxic + Protect Mudsdale one-on-one due to Stamina.

**Water-types**: Defensive Water-types such as Mantine, Vaporeon, and Gastrodon have little issue taking on Mudsdale, only disliking being poisoned by Toxic. Offensive Water-types like Starmie, Blastoise, and Inteleon, meanwhile, can easily dispatch Mudsdale, with Blastoise threatening to set up with Shell Smash too.

**Ice-types**: Vanilluxe and Aurorus deny Mudsdale its Leftovers recovery thanks to Snow Warning and easily OHKO it with Blizzard.

**Ground-immune Pokemon**: Braviary can fairly easily set up against Mudsdale, especially if it has Substitute, although it must use Bulk Up a couple of times before attacking because of Mudsdale's Stamina. Bronzong can switch into Mudsdale with ease, but if it gets hit by Smack Down, Mudsdale can 2HKO it with Earthquake.

Not feeling too comfortable with Passimian being mentioned in analyses.
Positive: offensive presence, uninvested base 125 atk eq is still good damage and body press can do things cause of stamina (def less passive than zong)

I rly rly think Body Press deserves a slash or at the very least in OO. Mudsdale gets hit often during games and a +1/+2 Body Press can be a nice midground move.

Small nitpick but Braviary should also rack up a couple boosts before attacking cause of Stamina.
