Hi everyone, new to posting.
This is a team I crafted for mono bug. Played a couple games and tweaked it slightly. Open to suggestions. Thank you.
The theme of the team is to use orbeetle as a stored power user. Now, he isn't the best at the move since he has the added bug typing and doesn't sport magic guard.
But I love bug types. So this is what I came up with:
Ribombee @ Focus Sash
Ability: Shield Dust
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Sticky Web
- Aromatherapy
- Moonblast
- U-turn
Ribombee acts as a fail safe with aromatherapy as well as sticky web support. Going against common leads, I usually get sticky webs up and can u-turn to preserve aromatherapy. Sticky webs isn't essential to the team but it does support durant. Moonblast for a strong spammable move.
Durant @ Expert Belt
Ability: Hustle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Superpower
- First Impression
- Hone Claws
- Iron Head
Durant is the revenge killer, picking off dark types that can counter Orbeetle. Expert Belt and Hustle give plenty of ATK to handle threats to the team. Superpower for steel and rock types, first impression for priority. Iron Head for a strong spammable STAB move. I added hone claws to potentially grab a free boost in case of a switch.
Araquanid @ Grip Claw
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Soak
- Toxic
- Rest
- Infestation
Now the last three members are my trappers. Araquanid with water absorb traps any tanky water types that threaten the team. I used max DEF EVS to keep him healthy as his SPD is about the same with little investment. Soak allows him to toxic steel and poison types. Rest to avoid counter toxics and infestation as the trapping/stall move.
Vespiquen (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Roost
- Infestation
- Defend Order
I was desperate for hazard removal and was using Frosmoth since she learns Defog as well. I started using vespiquen since she has access to roost and is able to boost her defenses. I opted for infestation again to trap pokemon that have no rock moves instead of toxic to further the trap theme of the team.
Centiskorch @ Lum Berry
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Fire Spin
- Knock Off
- Coil
- Rest
Centiskorch is the final trapper. He is for fire types as well as fairy and any pokemon without coverage for him. I tried sleep talk over coil but found that his def is very lacking. Knock Off nets a lot of hits and helps him counter other tanky pokemon. I decided to use lum berry to get a few coils and rest for a heal.
Orbeetle @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Iron Defense
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power
- Recover
Orbeetle is the star of the team with a tried and true stored power set. The set is very similar to reuniclus and plays the same way. Orbeetle suffers from not being immune to indirect damage but also lets him act as a scout early game with frisk and net boosts against pokemon that have no answer to him.
Overall the team is Average at best. I was able to win against Fairy, Fighting and Psychic. The water teams still prove hard with the Rain and swift swimmers. Naturally, Dark types directly counter the team and need Ribombee and Durant to Carry instead. Rock is also a good counter since they boast alot of 4x against the team and none of them resist except for durant. Flying teams also sweep the team with their speed and unresisted moves. The team carries no super effective against flying but durant could carry rockslide instead of hone claws.
Anyways I hope you guys enjoy the team. Thanks for any feedback
