Mono Team- Steel

This is my first RMT here on Smogon. As part of a bet with my brother, I
said I could build a mono team for every pokemon type. The teams I'll be
making will be for wifi use. I dont want any wildcards on the team(s). I
plan posting most, if not all my mono teams so you guys can rate them.
So with that said, here's my steel mono team....

TEAM AT A GLANCE

THE ACTUAL TEAM

dpmfsa376.png

Metagross @ Occa Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 236 Atk / 12 Def / 8 Sped
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock- Lay down the sash breaker
- Earthquake- For the fire type leads such as Heatran, Infernape and
friends
- Bullet Punch- To get rid of those annoying sashes, and weaken weak
leads
- Explosion- This move is great to ensure me atleast one kill, or even kill
another pokemon thats switched in.

Metagross is a great lead that garantees me to set up SR, and kill the
opposing lead and when use correctly you can set up rocks and KO 2
of the opponents pokemon.

398.png

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 92 SDef / 4 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Surf- STAB Surf great for KOing those special sweepers
- Ice Beam- Kills dragons with ease
- Grass Knot- This is for its fellow water type such as Vaporeon and
Suicune
- Knock Off- Empoleon's best move on this set, if other walls switch on to
Empoleon they lose their leftovers which for a good number of
Walls is their only means of recovery and Choise Item users
Beware of losing them

Empoleon is one of the best special walls in the game. Without this guy,
my team would suffer at the hands of water types and fire types if
Heatran were to die. Suprisingly this pokemon sometimes is the one with
the most kills at the end of a battle.

208.png

Steelix @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Toxic- I choosed toxic over Stealth Rock since 'Gross is already setting
them up for me, this way i can poison mostly anythng coming in.
- Earthquake- STAB Earthquake to cause damage to other steel type such
as Lucario and friends
- Stone Edge- Mainly for coverage and to hit Gyarados hard
- Explosion- If I'm low on health or simply in need to get rid of something i
can go BOOM!! on them

Steelix is on my team for a couple of reason, this team would have trouble
agaisnt electric attacks. Another reason being is that this is a steel team I
am weak to fighting type, this guy cushions a blow and attack it or simply
go BOOM in their face. I maxed the special defense to make this bulkier
than it alredy is and to take a special attack from a pokemon and either
attack or explode (I find my self sacrificing it every time i use the team).

212.png

Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 176 HP / 100 Atk / 232 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Pursuit- A technician and life orb boosted pursuit coming from from this
guy is no joke. KOs and dents a lot of special walls, psychics and ghost
types trying to flee thinking im running a Swords Dance or Choise set
- U-turn- STAB move that KOs dark types and psychic that decide to stay
and play
- Roost- I need this to recover damage from being attacked, entry
hazards and life orb damage
- Bullet Punch- This STAB move is boosted by technician and life orb can
cause masive damage on pokemon.

Scizor is one of the best pokemon in the game, with great typing, moves
and a great priority move, I'd be stupid not to put him on my team, with
the support this guy has around him, he'll take more damage from entry
hazards and life orb than he will from other pokemon.

453.png

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance- Boost the already beastly attack of Lucario to new
heights
- Close Combat- A STAB, +2 life orb boosted Close Combat will KO even
the most dedicated of physical walls out there
- ExtremeSpeed- This is one of the best/useful moves Lucario can learn,
anything faster than Lucario that doesnt resist this move will either be
KOed or barely able to stand from its destructive power
- Crunch- This move is here to hit Cresselia, Dusknoir and a couple of oher
pokemon that would otherwise block this set

Lucario is one of the best at what he does, if my opponent lets this guy
set up, they'll either be completely swept or have few pokemon remaining
that get picked off by my other steel monsters.

dpmfsa485.png

Heatran @ Choise Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+, -)
- Fire Blast- STAB move that if boosted by flash fire will cause HUGE
amounts of damage to any pokemon unless they have flash fire as well
- Earth Power- This move is to revenge kill other heatran, steel types and,
one of this team's most feared weakness, fire type pokemon
- Hidden Power (Ice)- Hidden Power Ice to KO dragons, weaker/
weakened grass types and, another weakness this teams hates, ground
types
- Explosion- If you havent noticed by now, I love to go BOOM!! this move
is to KO anything im having problems agaisnt

Without Heatran this team would fall, i would have a huge fire weakness,
and a lack of special attackers. This Heatran allows me to revenge kill
anything and everything giving me a problem.

CHANGES
-dropped out Metagross
-Moved Empoleon to Lead pokemon
-Added Skarmory for Metagross
-Changed Heatran's moveset and ability to Timid with Fire Blast / Earth
Power / HP Electric / Dragon Pulse.

When building a Mono-Team, you gotta look at the types the type is weak too. Steel is weak to Fire, Fighting, and Ground. While you cover Fire with heatran, a standerd Mixape will completly end this team. Unfortunatly, you're only shot at beating Mixape with a Mono-Steel team is Magnezone, but I can't see where you would fit. I would take Skarmory into serious consideration, as it takes nuetral form Fighting, and is resistant to Ground.

Hey there,

You have an interesting team going on, and I think I can help make it just a little better.

I agree with StormKid5 that a Skarmory could help you out a lot given its Ground immunity. I would like to place it over Metagross. However, Skarmory is not a great lead, so I suggest moving Empoleon to the lead slot. Empoleon is a surprisingly good antilead with the combination of Hydro Pump + Aqua Jet taking down many common leads. Here is the set:

Empoleon @ Focus Sash
Modest
156 HP/252 Sp. Attack/100 Speed

Hydro Pump
Aqua Jet
Grass Knot
Stealth Rock

Now for Skarmory's set. The set I have in mind can get you three layers of Spikes very easily, which is always good, but has a more precise purpose. This Skarmory can stall the PP out of many moves threatening your other Steel types through Torment and Protect. Once you have stalled the PP out of these harmful attacks, stuff like Heatran turns from a problem into a non issue. This Skarmory also screws over choiced mons as they are forced to struggle and kill themselves. Here is the set:

Skarmory @ Leftovers/Shed Shell (probably shed shell as magnezone is a jerk to you)
Impish
Keen Eye
252 HP / 16 Spe / 240 Def

Torment
Protect
Spikes
Roost

Steelix through Lucario seems fine

Now Heatran- I would run Timid with Fire Blast / Earth Power / HP Electric / Dragon Pulse. This allows you to revenge kill Adamant DD Gyara, as those really screw you up, so being able to revenge it is always nice. Also, Heatran is what is really holding your team together, so I would never want to explode the "glue" of my team away.

Thats all I have, good luck with your team.

Four pokemon are weak to Fighting, and the other two can most possibly get 2HKOed.
All of your pokemon bar Scizor are weak to Ground.

Machamp weak, especially No Guts Band Dynamicpunch.
Infernape can also be a threat especially Scarfed ones.Once Heatran is down,Fire Blast rips through your team,2HKOing only Steelix and Empoleon at least.
ScarfMence would give you a problem as well. For that matter,a DDMence with +1 up.Earthquake rips through your whole team,Fire Blast for Scizor.

As such,I suggest you run a wildcard on your mono team, namely Scarf Latias.
With a Scarf Latias, you manage to outspeed a +1 Salamence and ScarfNape, and you resist every move bar Draco Meteor / Outrage on Mence(whom you outspeed anyway),and HP Ice on Nape, who does a maximum of 35% to you.It also has an immunity to Ground type moves.
I suggest running a more Defensively oriented Latias to take hits better as well as to pack more of a punch.

Latias @ Choice Scarf
Timid Nature
252 SpA / 96 Spe / 160 HP
-Draco Meteor
-Surf
-Trick
-Thunderbolt

With 96 Spe EVs,you outspeed Max Speed +0 Ninjask by 2 points, which totals at 462 Speed. You also tie with base 110s who run the same Spread with a Scarf,or non Scarfed base 160s.
Otherwise, you can outspeed base Scarf max Spe Adamant base 100s.
The EVs maximizes its Attack and balances its two Defenses with 160 HP EVs.The moves help you against the threats you are weak against.

Draco Meteor OHKOs Machamp,Salamence and other fighting types including Infernape.
Surf allows you to deal at least 35% to Heatran should it stay in on you to Dragon Pulse.
Trick allows you to ruin Blissey switch-ins,that are pretty common in my opinion.
Thunderbolt allows you to hit bulky waters namely Vaporeon and Empoleon who can be a threat to you.
Even though you lose to other Scarf Latias who run 252 Spe EVs,all the members in your team counters it well, not to mention you have a Scizor, who can Pursuit KO it if it switches after a Draco Meteor,or 2HKO with Bullet Punch / U-Turn.

Next, your team is pretty weak to Scizor as well.As such,I suggest using Bronzong as another steel over one pokemon,as it can take hits from Scizor pretty well.I suggest running a Dual Screen set,as your team seems to need screens.

Bronzong @ Light Clay
Sassy
252 HP / 180 Def / 76 SDef
-Light Screen
-Reflect
-Gyro Ball
-Explosion

With this set,Scizor is capable of 3HKOing you at least with U-Turn after one Reflect. With Superpower,it is barely able to 3HKO you after a Screen, which allows you to switch to the appriopriate counter.
With Explosion, you are able to explode on threats such as Latias, who cannot do anything to you as well as take down pokemon that set up,such as Salamence,as you will have enough bulk to take a hit, after one respective screen.
With Gyro Ball, you are granted with a move against Scarfers, mainly Latias and Salamence, who gets attacked with maximum power, and with STAB,has no impunity trying to 2HKO them.
With Bronzong, your team also gains much needed bulk and defense against many pokemon that your team is weak against, such as Salamence with Fire Blast,as with Fire Blast, you can switch to Latias to take it,and OHKO with Draco Meteor.Other than Fire Blast,Bronzong takes hits from Salamence like a champ, and either sets up screens,or deal damage with Gyro Ball or OHKO with Explosion depending on the situation.
As with Latias, you also have an immunity to Ground type moves,if you run Levitate over Heatproof.

Your team seems to be weak against Magnezone as well as it can trap any of your pokemon bar Heatran and maybe Scizor,if you Superpower it on the switch, but overall it seems to be fine,as you have Latias for it.Should you deem it necessary, you can run Earthquake over Gyro Ball on Bronzong, but you lose the move needed to hit Scarfers, without suiciding with Explosion.

I hope this helps and you may try out my suggestions and see if it works!

For Casanova's Latias:
If you want 319 SpA/308 Spe/rest on defenses, you can do it better with this spread:

Modest, 164HP/136SpA/208Spe

Only 4 more HP EV's, but some battles are won or lost by a single hitpoint.

thanks for the review, ill make these changes right away and try them out

@ Casanova
like i said i dont want a wildcard im any of my mono teams so i wont go
with Latias but i will give the bronzong a try seeing at how it can take
fighting attacks, immunity to ground and can resist a lot of other moves
