Monotype Mono Dragon - Dracovish and friends

Hey, so I would love some help with rating this team and suggesting any set changes! Thanks in advance, and also included a video if that helps, would also help me realize my own misplays as well! Hope you guys have fun using this as well!

Dracovish @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Strong Jaw
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fishious Rend
- Outrage
- Psychic Fangs
- Crunch

Supposedly the main star, scarf dracovish is a well known threat. Destroys almost any mon that doesn't resist it, especially after the opponent takes some chip. This mon is highly susceptible to being outplayed by anything faster, but if you outspeed something, be prepared to take a pokemon from your opponent. Outrage is for when your fighting mono dragon, mainly. Psychic fangs is mainly for toxapex, and crunch was for the ghost matchup, helping beat dragapult, though you don't outspeed it most of the time. You could also run low kick to hit ferrothorn if that seems more helpful. I went with adamant over jolly for maximum damage output.

Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Flash Cannon
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast

Hydreigon acts as the defogger + a great win vs mono ghost, and also as a good late game cleaner. Scarf defog allows you to 9/10 clear webs +hazards all the time. Flash cannon for fairies, fire blast for ferrothorn + guaranteed ko on scarf galarian darmanitan lead. You could run modest, but you will not outspeed galarian darm if it is scarf max speed. Hydreigon is a great lead vs mono ice, because it counters both of the leads which are normally alolan ninetales or galarian darmanitan.

Dragapult @ Leftovers
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Darts
- Psychic Fangs
- Sucker Punch

Dragapult can be very dangerous if allowed to set up, because there are few mons who want to take a +1 dragon darts. I chose psychic fangs over phantom force because toxapex was becoming a major problem for the team. Sucker punch helps out with opposing dragapult, since im not max speed. Max speed could be another option, but I wanted as much damage as I could get, and max attack allows you a 50% chance to ohko Scarf Gengar, if that means anything.

Haxorus @ Lum Berry
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Poison Jab

Haxorus can be amazing if you set up properly with it. If you find the oppurtunity, it can win due to the mold breaker ability, allowing it to ko rotom and mimikyu, ignoring their abilities. Poison jab helps out with the fairy matchup, and also allows it to hit most grass types super effectively. Holding a lum berry allows you to either cure yourself from confusion, or prevent your opponent from statusing you and ruining your sweep. I ran Adamant for max damage again, but jolly might allow you to outspeed certain mons , and may be better overall.

Kommo-o @ Throat Spray
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Clangorous Soul
- Clanging Scales
- Flash Cannon
- Flamethrower

This is the standard special kommo-o set I believe, allowing you to get plus 2 after clangorous soulblaze, and clanging scales pretty much kills everything that isn't steel or fairy typed, which is why you have flamethrower and flash cannon as coverage. Timid is the nature on this pokemon since you will be boosting your special attack so much anyway. You can run soundproof intstead of bullet proof to help with toxtricity, which might be a better idea on this team anyway.

Duraludon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Steel Beam
- Draco Meteor
- Flash Cannon
- Thunderbolt

Last but not least, we have Duraludon, for which this set normally throws people off. They expect me to be defensive, but this pokemon has incredible offensive capabilities. With specs, its spatk reaches over 500, and this allows it to put a massive dent into pretty much any pokemon. I have steel beam and flash cannon, in case you want to keep duralodon around instead of using steel beam. Thunderbolt hits things like corviknight and toxapex, and draco meteor is a strong stab attack. I originally had rocks instead of flash cannon, but being locked into rocks on lead was becoming very inconvenient.

That's the team guys! Here is a video I made using the team as well, showing both wins and losses, and i speak through the games too, showing my thought process behind certain actions. I am stuck in the 1400s, so if anyone can give me suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated! Also, when I made this team, I didn't know Kyurem-Black was allowed in monotypes. Would that help my team any at all?

Hi Elemental_Draco nice Dragon team you have here, however, I do have some changes to suggest to perhaps get you out of the 1400s

Major Changes

Haxorus ---> Kyurem-B

:Haxorus: ---> :Kyurem-Black:

With the release of Pokemon Home, came a huge threat in Kyurem-B. Gaining access to Dragon Dance and Icicle Spear, this allows Kyurem to take advantage of its monstrous Attack stat and sweep teams. Using Fusion Bolt allows it to take advantage of amazing Bolt-Beam coverage, nailing threats like Toxapex. The 4th slot can vary as a move like Substitute allows you to set up multiple Dragon Dances on passive threats such as Rotom-Wash, Dragon Claw is strong Dragon STAB backed by its high attack stat, and Roost allows it to regain HP to increase its longevity. Life Orb or Leftovers would be the ideal item of choice allowing Kyurem Black to hit harder or have access to passive recovery.

Kommo-o --->Noivern
:Kommo-o: ---> :Noivern:

Since Hydreigon is primarily used to beat Steel teams, Kommo-o does not need to fill that role.Focus Sash lead Rocks could be a set that you may wanna use, however Noivern allows the team to have a form of hazard removal. Noivern is used as a support defogger on Dragon teams. Heavy-Duty Boots allows Noivern to become a more reliable hazard remover. Defog is used to remove hazards. Roost allows Noivern to recover HP. The combination of Taunt + Roost + Hurricane can allow Noivern to potentially fulfill a stallbreaking role.

Duraludon
:Duraludon:

This team stands little to chance vs Fairy teams which is an obvious glaring weakness. Choice Scarf Gardevoir essentially clicks Moonblast 6 times and sweeps you and overall, there is no actual win condition present vs Fairy with the current team. Although Hydreigon is able to outpace it, Scarf Flash Cannon only does 55% to 70%. Choice Scarf Duraludon is able to outpace Choice Scarf Gardevoir and clean Fairy teams with Flash Cannon therefore giving Dragon a solid win condition vs it. Choice Scarf in conjunction with Draco Meteor is used to revenge kill all other Dragons, further easing the mirror matchup. Choice Scarf Thunder Wave is a fail safe that cripples Gardevoir if it is not in range of Flash Cannon. Duraludon can still run Stealth Rock although holding the Choice Scarf as it can often find itself forcing switches due to its high SpA and revenge killing capabilities.

Hydreigon
:Hydreigon:

Choice Scarf Hydreigon is not that great in the current meta, as it is outclassed by Scarf Duraldudon, Scarf Dracovish, or Scarf Dragapult. A Nasty Plot set is far better to allow Hydreigon to beat Steel teams which are very common. Flamethrower of course allows Hydreigon to threaten Steel teams. Dark Pulse is a strong STAB move. The 4th move should ideally be Substitute to allow Hydreigon to setup freely on passive threats such as Ferrothorn, or Roost can be opted for as it now regains the move from Home. Leftovers should be the item of choice as it allows Hydreigon to have a form of passive recovery.

Dragapult
:Dragapult:

A physical Choice Band Dragapult set is vastly outclassed by a Choice Specs or Choice Scarf Dragapult set in today's meta. A Choice Specs Dragapult allows you to take advantage of its insane coverage. Draco Meteor is a strong STAB nuke vs anything that does not resist it. Ghost resists are hard to come by in the tier, therefore, making Shadow Ball spammable. Fire Blast allows Dragapult to threaten Steel-types just as Corviknight and Melmetal. Thunderbolt allows Dragapult to pit in great amounts of work vs Water and Flying teams due to its great natural Speed tier. A Choice Scarf set can be opted for as well due to the abundance amount of Dragon Dance Kyurem-B usage post home.

Those are the suggestions I have, Good luck with the team.

Hey there, cool team. I got a few suggestions.

Major Changes

Haxorus -> Kyurem-B

->
646-b.png

Kyurem-B got released from Pokemon Home and is now one of the biggest threats in the metagame, as well as one of the best options for Dragon-type teams, while Haxorus is outclassed and not used too often. Kyurem-B's natural bulk, ridiculous Attack, and access to Dragon Dance makes it a very powerful setup breaker, difficult for many teams to stop, and has the support for some of its bad matchups.

Kommo-o
784.png

Clangorous Soul is honestly not a good set, due to the fact that it costs you 33% of your HP as well as a turn to set up plus the fact that it's Speed is not that great, meaning it's not too difficult to revenge kill for most teams. Instead I would suggest a lead set with Stealth Rock, Taunt, Brick Break and Poison Jab. Brick Break is for Aurora Veil and Screens, while Poison Jab hits Hatterene since its Magic Bounce will prevent you from getting up Stealth Rock. This set pretty much always guarantees Stealth Rock and is fast enough to Taunt a lot of other hazard setters. Dragon has access to tons of breakers and setup, so it's not necessary running it on Kommo-o.

Minor Changes

Dracovish

Definitely run Jolly nature on a Choice Scarf set, you want as much Speed as possible to ensure Fishious Rend gets the double power. I'd also replace Crunch with Leech Life due to the introduction of Celebi. Crunch really only hits Jellicent which is rare and you have Hydreigon to threaten that anyway.

Dragapult
887.png

Physical Dragapult is pretty bad in Monotype as Dragon-type teams much prefer its special coverage which is great in matchups such as Steel thanks to Fire Blast, Water as both of its STABs are pretty spammable etc. I recommend running a Choice Specs set here and having Dragapult be your special wallbreaker.

Duraludon
884.png

The best Duraludon set in Monotype is Choice Scarf. It allows you to outspeed Choice Scarf Gardevoir and is amazing in the Fairy matchup as well as the Dragon mirror. Draco Meteor, Flash Cannon, Thunderbolt, and Thunder Wave is the set I have in mind. Thunder Wave is there because it doesn't need any coverage moves other than those and Thunder Wave can be used on a predicted switch or to sacrifice Duraludon to get off a paralysis so one of your teammates can take advantage.

Hydreigon
635.png

WIth you having two Choice Scarf users now, I suggest making Hydreigon Nasty Plot with Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, and Roost. This set is amazing against Steel-type teams, and a strong breaker in general that's able to muscle through a lot of bulky Pokemon such as Toxapex and Hippowdon. With Melmetal being legal at the moment, in my opinion Substitute isn't as good because it can just Double Iron Bash. Roost gives u a reliable form of recovery and helps out its longevity.

Hope you like my suggestions, good luck with the team!

Thanks both of you for the suggestions!!! I really like both options, and see things that could be better. However, with both of these versions, aren't I weak to scarf gengar and scarf galarian darmanitan?

potentially yes. However Duraludon can eat an Icicle Crash from Galarian Darmanitan if its locked into that and OHKO it back with Flash Cannon.

Alternatively you could run Scarf Dragapult as it is currently rising in usage due to the presence of Dragon Dance Kyurem Black. It can OHKO Galarian Darmanitan and Gengar. If you make this change you should opt for Choice Band on Dracovish to increase its wallbreaking potential.

I like the scarf dragapult option. It covers two major weaknesses with one pokemon.Thanks for the help!
