Great Tusk @ Hearthflame Mask
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Headlong Rush
- Temper Flare
- Head Smash
- Stealth Rock

Great Tusk masquerades in Mix and Mega! Hearthflame Mask may seem like a strange item at first, but its secondary Fire typing and Mold Breaker ability make Great Tusk an incredible Stealth Rock setter and Regieleki counter. Temper Flare is Great Tusk's best Fire-type STAB option, notably punishing Corviknight for switching into Headlong Rush, while Head Smash slams Ho-Oh and non-Gyaradosite Mandibuzz. Hearthflame Mask Great Tusk shines on offensive teams that fear Pixilate Extreme Speed users like Regieleki and Hisuian Arcanine, with high-power teammates such as Walking Wake, Raging Bolt, and Urshifu-R benefiting the most. Great Tusk fears Ground- and Water-type moves from the likes of Dragonite, opposing Great Tusk, and Walking Wake, so teammates that can answer these like Latiasite Pecharunt, Arceus-Fairy, and Altarianite Dragonite are essential. Great Tusk often finds itself worn down by entry hazards, especially late-game, so teammates that can remove or block hazards like Regieleki and Sablenite Magearna greatly support it.

Great Tusk masquerades in Mix and Mega! Hearthflame Mask may be a strange item at first, but its secondary Fire typing and Mold Breaker ability makes Great Tusk an incredible Stealth Rock setter and Regieleki counter. Temper Flare is Great Tusk's best Fire STAB option, notably being able to punish Corviknight for switching into Headlong Rush, while Head Smash threatens to OHKO all Flying-types in the tier except Sablenite Mandibuzz and Corviknight, the former of which is 2HKOed i think this could be worded better, id 100% talk about hitting ho-oh since it resists both stabs. maybe something along the lines of "Head Smash OHKOes Ho-Oh, which resists both of Great Tusk's STAB moves as well as other Flying-types like blah blah blah" u talked about corv in the temper section anyway soo. Hearthflame Mask Great Tusk shines on offensive teams that fear Pixilate Extreme Speed users like Regieleki and Hisuian Arcanine, with high-power teammates like Walking Wake, Raging Bolt, and Urshifu-RS benefitting the most. Great Tusk fears Ground- and Water-type moves from the likes of Dragonite, opposing Great Tusk, and Walking Wake, so teammates that can answer these like Latiasite Pecharunt, Arceus-Fairy, and Altarianite Dragonite are essential. Great Tusk often finds itself worn down by hazards, especially late-game, so teammates that can block or remove hazards like Regieleki and Sablenite Magearna, and Noivern greatly support it. qc: ik noivern isnt ranked etc but its quite literally the only relevant offensive defog mon rn and this basically never wants to run rspin nawrr i havent seen a vern since maybe dlc1 and dis is not gen7 unfortunately
