VGC Miraigigas

:Miraidon::Farigiraf::Regigigas::Whimsicott::Porygon-Z::Rillaboom:

Hello! Newbie player here throwing things at the wall and seeing what works! I've had a decent amount of success with this team compared to the others I've made, probably because of the insane power of Miraidon, but it's definitely not perfect, so please help me cover up holes and make my team better.

miraidon.gif

Akiraidon (Miraidon) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Hadron Engine
Level: 50
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Discharge
- Electro Drift
- Draco Meteor
- Volt Switch

Aki here is the cornerstone of the team, the insane power of electric terrain STAB and choice specs makes him such a hard hitter, even against resistances. Discharge is a good AOE attack and while I've fought a lot of people using Parabolic Charge, I find the higher power of discharge to help more as Aki usually doesn't get hit in the first place. Electro Drift is an insanely powerful signature move, and Draco Meteor helps deal with opposing Miraidon. Volt Switch helps re-establish electric terrain if a Rillaboom or Indeedee switch in, and with specs it gets pretty powerful itself.

Friggy-Riggy (Farigiraf) (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Armor Tail
Level: 50
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Imprison
- Trick Room
- Dazzling Gleam
- Ally Switch

Friggy-Riggy is here as a Trick Room denier, Imprison is insanely useful against pokemon that try to make my miraidon move last, and I have a Trick Room of my own if one goes up when Friggy isn't on the field that needs to be shut down. Dazzling Gleam helps deal with opposing Miraidon and Ally Switch is a pretty situational but rather effective way to protect my allies. I know a lot of people run Helping Hand tera ground to help Miraidon hit even harder, and while I think helping hand would be a great option, I often find my Aki on the field with another pokemon.

regigigas.gif

GYAHHH (Regigigas) @ Leftovers
Ability: Slow Start
Level: 50
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Confuse Ray
- Rock Slide
- Wide Guard

Regigigas is not a pokemon I would think I would be using but here we are. Slow Start doesn't matter when the point of him is to be bulky and annoying my opponent with Disrupting status effects. There is nothing more satisfying than having your oppenent be paralyzed, then hit themselves next turn, then flinch on the 3rd turn. Wide Guard is here to, as many other things on this team, disrupt opposing Miraidon. Gya is often on the field with Aki, supporting him while Aki runs away with the game, so I put tera Ground on him to make him immune to discharge, which in turns also makes him immune to opposing Miraidon, keeping him on the field even longer!

Love (Whimsicott) (F) @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tailwind
- Encore
- Moonblast
- Taunt

Love is here to support when trick room isn't on the table for the opposing team. Prankster Encore is a menace for set up pokemon, or if they manage to hit protect at the wrong time. Prankster Taunt gets rid of other support pokemon, and tailwind makes sure my Aki always moves first even against choice scarf Miraidon. Moonblast is to, yet again, counter opposing Miraidon.

474.png

Mal-E (Porygon-Z) @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
Level: 50
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Tri Attack
- Ice Beam

It's here when I noticed I had a lot of support, but only one pokemon taking advantage of it, so here's Mal-E. Hitting Dragon types, particularly, yet again, opposing Miraidon, hard with Ice Beam, a super powerful STAB, Adaptability, Life Orb, Hyper Beam to shut down pretty much anything my other Mons might have trouble dealing with. Tri Attack to put the opposing team at risk for status effects, and thunderbolt is a great powerful move with few resistances, Mal-E is great for hitting just about anything for high damage.

812.png

Bam-Boom (Rillaboom) (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SpD
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Grassy Glide
- Fake Out
- Knock Off

Bam-Boom is my fake out pokemon of choice for this team. I had initially considered Incineroar, but with how prevalent opposing Miraidon are, the ability to disrupt it's terrain was pretty valuable. U-turn to pivot, Grassy Glide for some quick damage, Fake Out to make shut down other Pokemon on switch in, and knock off to make sure other's items don't do too much for too long, Bam-Boom is a great support option that's almost always on the team.

I often find I don't struggle with any one particular type of team, but I do have trouble with finding the right combination for some fights, I still definitely have not maximized this teams potential and would be very grateful for any kind of constructive criticism. Thank you!

Thank you!
Hello layaboutace. Nice team you have here, but let's beat around the bush here: there are some issues. (Don't mean to be rude sorry if it came across that way)

- :Calyrex-ice:feels like a issue here, especially with most not reliant on Trick Room, which makes Farigiraf near useless. Every Calyrex-Ice team also has a Fighting-type, whether in the form of Urshifu-R or Annihilape, which can threaten Regigigas immensely. Even with Tera on the giant Regi, common partner Urshifu-R and Rillaboom take care of it. Overall, with no great way to hit Calyrex-Ice, things can be scary.

- :Koraidon:teams kind run of through yours. With Flutter Mane, Raging Bolt and Whimsicott adding speed control, support and power to the other team, they can be hard to deal with. Flutter Mane gets onto Miraidon, while Koraidon ruins Porygon-Z and Rillaboom, plus Regi. Farigiraf and Whimsicott, not doing any real damage, lose to AV sets, especially the ones with Weather Ball.

Pokemon Changes
:sv/porygon-z: -> :sv/chi-yu:
This change is a bit. With Chi-Yu, you apply loads of pressure onto the likes of Calyrex-Ice while also boosting up Miraidon, turning it into a true menace. It also can threaten powerful threats like Flutter Mane thanks too the Focus Sash item, or Calyrex-Shadow with Choice Scarf. You can even run the niche Psychic to hit opposing Koraidon really hard, maybe forcing a Tera to open you up to Dark Pulse and Electro Drift KOs.

:sv/rillaboom: -> :sv/Iron hands:
Here, you stated that Rillaboom is used to get rid of Electric Terrain. This just overrides your own, especially when you already have a Grass-type and you almost always bring your restricted. So you are either giving up a restricted into more battles, or Rillaboom kind of just sits to the side. With Iron Hands, you can take advantage of the Terrain and still keep the same Fake Out pressure. Plus, having some Fighting-type coverage on this team is amazing into unboosted Zamazenta-C and Ursaluna-BM.

With the Pokemon changes out of the wag, we will now get into set changes.

:heavy-duty-boots: -> :sitrus berry: or :throat spray: on :farigiraf:
Hazards are non-existent in VGC, so a item that either gives your team more firepower or helps with bulk is preferred (the berry is probably better here).

Tera Fairy -> Tera Ground on :farigiraf:
This is kind of necessary, as you don't really have a way to spam Discharge right now besides Regigigas, which is kind of unreliable (didn't change it since it is a centerpiece if the team).

Ally Switch -> Protect/Helping Hand on :farigiraf:
Not mandatory, but it helps for dealing more damage, especially when next to Discharge Miraidon. Protect is also just amazing.

:Farigiraf: spread
Just changed the EVs to invest a bit more in physical defense.

Tera Grass -> Tera Fire/Water on :whimsicott:
I would say, Ghost, yet that works best for a Sash set. These two defensive Terastilizations work great into the likes of Calyrex-Ice and Koraidon.

And yeah, that's it! Almost forgot, but here is the paste to the new team. Good luck and happy battling!
