Mewtwo (Choice Specs)

[OVERVIEW]

Hi, I've been using Mewtwo with a Choice Specs set for a good while now. I hover around top 30 in the Pokemon Online server when I play, and could probably go higher if I played more often. I feel like this Mewtwo is a big contribution to that. It dents pokemon noticeably harder on their switchins, and doesn't really need to switch moves that much if you predict correctly the first time. Psystrike is very versatile and is the main reason I'd consider Choice Specs. Fighting is a common weakness in Ubers teams, I've found, so being locked into Aura Sphere isn't bad either, and can still be a 2HKO on many pokemon that are neutral to it.

[SET COMMENTS]

- Psystrike is your go-to move, and if the enemy team has no Psychic resist with high defense or Dark type, you can often just use it without a care in the world. It can OHKO Kyogre even without being super effective, which is why Thunder isn't listed as an option.
- Psychic resistors with average-to-low Defense (such as enemy Mewtwos) could potentially still be 2HKOd by Psystrike, should you be locked into it. You will usually beat an enemy Life Orb Mewtwo, especially with their recoil factored in.
- Aura Sphere is used when you predict that Psychic resist coming in, and is usually super effective against it. It is also a reasonably high damaging move if you predict wrong, but it isn't resisted.
- Shadow Ball and Ice Beam are your moves to use against enemy Mewtwos and other Psychic types. Lati@s, Lugia, and Giratina take more damage from Ice Beam, and Ice Beam in general has better coverage and dominates Dragon-types and Groudon, but being able to one-shot enemy Mewtwos can win you an important victory.
- Speaking of victory, Shadow Ball is also the only move you have that would not be resisted by Victini, should you come across one.
- Fire Blast should be used with Shadow Ball, as it will maintain high damage against Groudon. Flamethrower is a safer move to use alongside Ice Beam, but Fire Blast could still be used to guarantee the deaths of things like specially-defensive Bronzong or Jirachi, and higher damage on a mispredict.
- Aura Sphere kills Forretress in two hits, and it has Sturdy anyway, so you might want to use Aura Sphere instead of your Fire move for the better coverage after Forry goes down, as well as not having a miss chance, if using Fire Blast. If Stealth Rock knocked Sturdy off, the Fire move becomes the better choice.

I'm not a big contender in Ubers, but your experience with this Mewtwo should probably be reflected in battling on the Smogon Server or Pokemon Showdown, rather than PO's server. Unnerve Mewtwo is currently unreleased (unless you can prove otherwise), which makes your position on this set suspect. Additionally, you have given little reasons to use Specs over Life Orb, which, I believe, offers the power to already break through threats without the need to get locked in one move.

Believe it or not, there ARE instances where Mewtwo would require a coverage move rather than roll the dice on a 2HKO with Psystrike, like with any other attacker with coverage.

I really don't like Specs Mewtwo, Mewtwo is a lot like Deoxys-A, in other words, it can so easily dent things its not even funny, but it doesn't need Choice Specs. A problem when using Deo-a is that locking him into a choice move will force him to switch right after he's used a move because a foe switched in a resist. For example, Psystrike 2HKOes Chansey with Specs, so lets say Chansey comes in on the expected Calm Mind and gets hit with Psystrike, but do you really think Chansey will stay in? It'll switch to a steel-type that can easily tank the blow. The greater damage output practically tells you that its Specs, and the opponent can proceed to be really mean to you from there.

That and +1 Life Orbed moves are stronger then Specs moves, I know it hits like a nuke but IMO it just doesn't deserve a spot. The inability to switch moves just prevents him from sweeping and its easy to stop him from wall breaking with a simple switch.

If it does get accepted (which I doubt for previously mentioned reasons), trick would definetly be something to mention for trolling the blobs, Lugia, and Giratina-a. Also Pressure > Unnerve, nothing uses resist berries here unless its a haban berry, which doesn't effect Mewtwo at all. Getting rid of two Draco Meteors or Hydro Pumps or Spacial Rends is IMO much better and much more "solid" (in terms of reliability).
