Personally I've never been too into Pokemon showdown, I prefer the actual cartridge online battles much much more for many reasons I will not delve into now. The primary reason I do not like laddering on showdown is because it takes a large amount of time (as does wifi battles). I decided I would try my hand at the OU ladder for once, but I knew I would get bored easily so I decided to make a hyper offensive team so that battled would be done quickly- win or lose. My team has had solid success but has unfortunately stalled just above the 1600 mark, so this I came here for outside insight (haha).
Team building:
1- I began with mega tyranitar (my favorite Pokemon, because sometimes it has to be fun too) and decided to make a more or less linear team with tyranitar being the dd sweeper.
2- The next team member I added was staraptor, to deal with tyranitar's obvious looming weakness of fighting types while also have good coverage and power (more than talonflame in my case).
3- Staraptor struggles against tough physically defense Pokemon with access to healing and also intimidate Pokemon. I added serperior to take down the bulky ground, water, and rock types of the tier while also helping with other threats to tyranitar, namely landorus and keldeo.
4- Next I added nidoking for immense coverage and the ability to take down heatran and scizor for serperior.
5- The fifth member in my team is azumarill for its ability to counter or check a vast amount of Pokemon, but primarily weavile who was a huge threat to my team at this point.
6- The final member is garchomp, who has a favorable speed tier and matches up well with most leads in the tier.
3B- After getting to about 1350 on the ladder I switched serperior out with scizor, seeing as serperior was not pulling his weight and scizor did a good enough job countering azumarill, one of serperior' main duties.
The Team:
Garchomp
Lum berry
Jolly 252atk 252spd 8spdef
Rough skin
-swords dance
-outrage
-earthquake
-poison jab
Full speed and attack investment along with a jolly nature allow garchomp the most offensive potential instantly. Swords dance allows for boosting against landorus and defense mons such as ferrothorn. Garchomp is always my lead.
Azumarill
Sitrus berry
Adamant 252hp 252 atk 8spd
Huge power
-belly drum
-waterfall
-aqua jet
-play rough
Azumarill's main role is to act as a counter to weavile who threatens every other member of my team. Sitrus berry allows azumarill to set up belly drum a majority of the team and aqua jet makes up for the lack of speed and allows for some sweeps.
Nidoking
Life orb
Modest 252spatk 252spd 8def
Sheer force
-sludge wave
-earth power
-ice beam
-flamethrower
Modest provides nidoking with maximum power while not giving up a speed advantage over any major threats. Sludge wave is his most powerful stab, earth power covers heatran and volcanion, flamethrower for scizor and ferrothorn, ice beam as occasional utility although Pokemon such as landorus consistently ouspeed and ohko.
Scizor
Focus sash
Adamant 252hp 252atk 8spd
Technician
-swords dance
-bullet punch
-knock off
-u-turn
Scizor serves as my main sweep preventing revenge killer. Slow U-turn allows to switch out of heatran while keeping momentum and knock off is helpful to get rid of choice scarves.
Staraptor
Choice scarf
Jolly 252atk 252spd 8def
Reckless
-brave bird
-close combat
-U-turn
-double edge
Brave bird clears fighting types for mega tyranitar to sweep and is used to bird spam everything else. U-turn is used to revenge kill and switch out on low health Pokemon and close combat takes care of opposing heatran and ttar.
Mega tyranitar
Tyranitrite
Jolly 252atk 252spd 8spdef
Sand stream
-dragon dance
-Stone edge
-ice punch
-crunch
My late game cleaner/sweeper wrecks havoc with just one dragon dance under its belt. Ice punch takes care of landorus and garchomp, crunch is used against lati@s, slowbro, mega gardevoir, mega metagross, and essentially everything else that dosent threaten to ko it back. Stone edge is for bulkier Pokemon, but I use it as little as possible because of its50% 80% accuracy.
Threats:
Weavile- weavile threatens my entire team for the most part with the exception of azumarill and scizor at full health. Mega ttar can take it down after a dd, however much of the time it provides a problem if left until late game.
Mega scizor- high defensive stats and access to swords dance and roost allow it to handle much of my team if allowed to boost unless it's against a boosted Pokemon itself.
Mega metagross- mega metagross is similar to mega scizor in that it's typing and stats are very threatening to my team. I do not run across it much, but mega ttar is my only Pokemon that can consistently take both it and mega scizor out, and for that it need a dragon dance.
Dragonite- although I've only faced a few, and those far inbetween, dragonite's access to a bulky fazing set and an offensive dd set with extreme sped allow it to clean my team or at the very least cause major problems when it's checks have been accounted for.
Other concerns:
Nidoking- although I love nidoking as a Pokemon and he provides great power and coverage, he is simply not fast enough nor bulky enough to outspeed or withstand a hit from most offensive Pokemon. Even with max hp or speed, he dosent have enough to work with. That being said, although he is most likely my least helpful team member as of now, he does provide special attacking coverage that I cannot do without. I'm not sure if I should change him, or change the team around him.
Special attackers- as stated above, nidoking is my only special attacker, which can proove a problem for a hyper offensive team. The pool of special attackers out there is simply not as good as the physical attackers, however I think an additional special attacker would greatly benefit my team, I just don't know who.
I'm sure there are various other things that I'm missing, so if I remember them I'll add them in. Thanks for rating my team!
