Gen 7 Mega Tyranitar Balance Team

Red Raven

I COULD BE BANNED!
I've been playing gen seven again because I fucking hate gen eight. This time, I decided to build a team that uses one of the mechanics that gen eight lacks and became worse because of it, pursuit, plus I wanted to use Mega Tyranitar as well so why not

:tapu lele::slowbro::chansey::celesteela::excadrill::tyranitar-mega:

This team originally had :amoonguss: in place of :chansey: but I was getting ripped apart by :charizard-mega-y: so I swapped it for the blob just to handle that god damn lizard. Since then, the team has been performing really well

:tyranitarite::sm/tyranitar-mega::tyranitarite:
Sand Stream
132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock

Starting things off is the pokemon that I wanted to build around. I was pissed off at how obnoxious Dragapult is so decided to play gen seven again and savor pursuit. This move is so good as there is nothing more satisfying that switching in Tyranitar against a dark pulse spamming Greninja and just taking forty percent of its life as it runs. I just went with the smogon pursuit set because I wanted to be pursuiting stuff and not dragon dancing. I also chose earthquake as the last move because I want to delete Heatran out of existence

:steelium z::sm/excadrill::steelium z:
Sand Rush
252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance

Since I am using Tyranitar, I might as well abuse the other thing that it offers, sandstorm. It serves as my late game cleaner with the z move to nuke Landorus out of existence. I was tempted to use z rock slide instead but I didn't really want to use another slot just for defog so I just stuck with rapid spin. I didn't go jolly because I want the firepower of adamant so I can abuse the z crystal against resist. After swords dance, z iron head can actually do a massive chunk to its counters in Zapdos in Rotom Wash. I originally wanted to use the ground z crystal but killing Landorus is more important

:leftovers::sm/slowbro::leftovers:
Regenerator
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Slack Off
- Thunder Wave

For the next slot, I wanted to have safety against fighting types. I didn't want to use Toxapex because I would only be stacking ground weakness so used Slowbro instead. I love this mon. It just walls the living shit out of Garchomp, Medicham, Loppunny, Hawlucha and is the perfect bait for Greninja to come in and click dark pulse, which leads to Tyranitar trapping it. With ice beam, it ensures that Garchomp won't brute force its way thru with thunder wave to provide speed control in case it's too risky to send in Tyranitar and double switch to Excadrill

:eviolite::sm/chansey::eviolite:
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
- Heal Bell
- Seismic Toss

As mentioned earlier, this slot used to be on Amoonguss because I wanted a poison type to absorb any potential toxic spikes but that left me being completely roasted by Zard Y so I instead chose one of the best roadblocks to the damn lizard. It also carries toxic which is very nice. Aside from its standard toss and boiled, I put heal bell on it just because there was no other move to put. I am so glad teleport wasn't buffed in this gen because gen eight teleport is bullshit. Heal bell comes in handy every now and then as there are many times that my mons end up getting paralyzed for whatever reason. It also helps against Serperior quite a bit since I can drain its leaf storm pp while still being a good defense against Greninja

:leftovers::sm/celesteela::leftovers:
Beast Boost
248 HP / 36 Def / 224 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Leech Seed
- Flamethrower

While Slowbro straight up maintains its dull face against the physical threats, there are two that it cannot handle, Tapu Bulu and Kartana. As such, I added Celesteela specifically to handle those two threats while still helping against the likes of Mega Alakazam and Tapu Lele. Instead of heavy slam, I decided to go for earthquake on this set just so I can bait in Heatran and remove it from the game. Heatran is one of the most annoying pokemon in the game and I want it gone as soon as I can. Flamethrower is for Ferrothorn while leech seed is to be annoying. Like with Chansey, it also somewhat helps against Serperior which is always nice

:choice specs::sm/tapu lele::choice specs:
Psychic Surge
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Finally, the team still needed an actual, immediate wallbreaker. So I decided to put in Lele because there is no other pokemon I can think of that fits that role beautifully. This pokemon straight up rips through the stuff that annoys Excadrill like Zapdos and Rotom Wash. I used hp fire over focus blast because I already have a way to bait in and delete Heatran and I didn't want Mega Scizor to assume it has free setup. Another reason I wanted Lele because it also disuades Greninja from clicking shuriken as it is something that Excadrill is allergic to

Threats

:sm/ferrothorn:

As you might have guessed, this is the single most annoying pokemon my team has to face. I don't have a reliable way to get rid of it and it is never staying in against Celesteela. It's also not recklessly coming in on Lele because of potential hp fire so add that to the long list of headaches this pokemon is

:sm/sableye-mega::sm/skarmory::sm/chansey:

Another thing that this team hates is stall. Sableye turns Lele into russian roulette. I guess right, it dies. I guess wrong, it pisses me off. There's also the fact that metal birds are the most obnoxious thing to kill in history and it even spin blocks my Excadrill. I don't run into them too often but when I do, I straight up lose to these fucks

Those are basically the only threats to the team. Everything else is usually manageable. Any advice would be really appreciated. I've begun to appreciate gen seven in a new light after that mechanical shitshow that is known as generation eight

Update: I've changed :celesteela: to :Skarmory:

:leftovers::sm/skarmory::leftovers:
Sturdy
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Roost
- Spikes
- Counter
- Whirlwind

I changed Celesteela to spdef Skarmory because even with Steela, Kartana was a massive issue. It just removes leftovers and uses stealth rocks to wear down the rocket beast. Skarmory does pretty much the same thing as Celesteela except it has reliable recovery and more importantly, spikes, which means more hazards to wear down that irritating durian. I only encountered it a handful of times but spdef Skarm also improved the matchup against sub Serperior because I can just blow it away and the spdef evs ensure that Skarm won't drop immediately to a boosted hp fire. I'm not sure if this is the best idea though especially with counter since I chose that because there really isn't a move that Skarmory has that can kill Kartana and I'm not about to use hp fire on it since all I really need is to put it in range of unboosted Excadrill earthquake
