Gen 7 Mega Scizor + Garchomp Rockium Z balanced

Here is the team I came up with somewhere in the beginning of 2021, I peaked with it in the top 10 a couple of times (using other teams as well but mainly this one) back in the first half of 2021, I've decided to take another look at it and ask other people their opinion on it, so here it is:

Gen7 top 10 OU (first half 2021)

scizor-mega.gif

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 244 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- Knock Off
Scizor-Mega is an overall great pokemon in the metagame, with a great typing and bulk, he is able to be an amazing setup sweeper with swords dance and bullet punch as strong priority. Roost is used for staying power to become an even more threatening asset to deal with. Knock off is a great utility move that often surprise steel-types that want to switch in such as Heatran, Skarmory/Celesteela or Zapdos. The move becomes a lot more threatening if one or multiple swords dance are placed. The spread is the pretty standard smogon spread, max hp, as well as high spe-def investments to make Scizor perfectly able to deal with offensive Magearna, or specs Tapu Lele. The left of the EVs are put into defense to be able to easily set up defensive Landorus, or other defensive ground Pokemon with earthquake.

garchomp.gif

Garchomp @ Rockium Z
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
Offensive Garchomp is an excellent wallbreaker, with the ability to set up rocks. It's got decent bulk with a great typing, being able to switch in and apply pressure on Heatran, as well as switching into electric attacks such as volt-switch Magearna. Garchomp also has great speed, being able to outspeed the entirety of the defensive mons in the game, as well as the base 100, such as Medicham-Mega, and Victini/Mew/Manaphy. Earthquake is a strong stab, combining Garchomp's great 130 attack, Earthquake and coverage is able to break through a bunch of the defensive cores of Gen7-OU. Swords dance as a setup allows Garchomp to become a lot more threatening. Stone edge and Rockium Z are excellent coverage moves, they synergise very well with Scizor and Kartana: It baits in flying types, such as Skarmory/Celesteela, Zapdos, or even Rotom-wash and Tapu Bulu (Scizor and Kartana struggle against most of them), and is able to OHKO them with Swords Dance + Rockium Z. Max speed is required to outspeed base 100, as well as other threats such as Kyurem-B. Max attack is mandatory for Garchomp to be such a brutal wallbreaker in this tier.
Notable calcs:
+2 252 Atk Garchomp Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 248 HP / 28 Def Celesteela: 371-437 (93.4 - 110%) -- guaranteed OHKO (after stealth rocks)
+2 252 Atk Garchomp Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Tapu Bulu: 345-407 (100.5 - 118.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Garchomp Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 200+ Def Rotom-Wash: 280-330 (92.1 - 108.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO (after stealth rocks)
+4 252 Atk Garchomp Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 334-393 (100 - 117.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO (2 swords dance + broken sturdy are required to OHKO defensive Skarmory)

tapufini.gif

Tapu Fini @ Leftovers
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 64 SpD / 196 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Moonblast
- Scald
- Taunt
Tapu Fini is a great defog user with great special bulk and speed. It has great synergy with Garchomp, being able to completely block special water types e.g. Ash-Greninja, Keldeo, Manaphy, and Kingdra. Fini acts as a pivot that forces the switch on the opposite team, and provides great utility with defog and taunt. Its fairy type allows it to keep dragon types in control such as Z-move Kommo-o, and Latios/Latias, as well as countering strong dark types such as Ash-Greninja, and Weavile. Moonblast is a decently strong stab, dealing respectable damage on neutral types, while allowing to pressure pokemon such as Zapdos, Tornadus-T, and any of the Tapus. Scald is here to try and get a burn on flying types or in other terrains, the main targets are Landorus-T, Tapu Bulu, and Celesteela/Skarmory. Taunt works great against defensive hazard stackers and slower setup-sweepers, it completely renders Toxapex useless, as well as catches Ferrothorn who likes to switch into Fini. Max hp for longevity is required because Fini has no way to heal itself other than leftovers, 196 Spe is here to outspeed all the decentely fast pokemon, such as spe def Heatran, and def Landorus-T, works great with taunt because Fini is able to be faster than most of the defensive pokemon. The rest of the EVs are put into Spe def to be able to tank special offensive threats for a longer time.

kartana.gif

Kartana @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- Sacred Sword
- Smart Strike
Kartana is a great revenge killer, being able to outspeed the entire metagame with its choice scarf, with strong coverage options with his 2 stabs, as well as knock off and sacred sword. Kartana struggles quite a bit with flying types such as Tornadus-T, Zapdos, Skarmory/Celesteela, and Landorus-T to an extent, which Garchomp is able to lure in and win the duel with Swords dance and Z-move, opening walls for either Kartana or Scizor to finish the game with Kartana's snowball effect (being beast boost). Knock off is used to catch flying types e.g. Zapdos, Tornadus-T, or Celesteela/Skarmory on the switch to remove their object and handicap them. Sacred sword is a must-have in Kartana's kit, making it able to deal with steel types such as Heatran or Ferrothorn, allowing to slowly break the opponent's defensive core. Max spe and max atk is pretty standard in Kartana's moveset, with its enormous attack, it is able to break through quite a few pokemon. With Kartana's great speed of 348, it is able to outspeed the whole metagame with a choice scarf, requiring max spe and Jolly nature

zapdos.gif

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Discharge
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Volt Switch
- Roost
Zapdos is the main physically defensive wall in the team, with great bulk, typing, and static, Zapdos is able to wall many physical threats of the OU metagame. Threat that would completely break through the team would be most grounded types (Excadrill, Landorus-T, etc..) considering Zapdos is the only flying type in the team, as well as some fighting and grass types such as Hawlucha, Kartana, and Tapu Bulu. The use of discharge allows Zapdos to pressure even more the offensive pokemon, making the opponent paralysed greatly decreases the potential of them breaking through with ease. HP ice allows Zapdos to pressure grounded pokemon, mainly targeted at x4 weaknesses, such as Gliscor, or defensive Landorus-T. Zapdos synergises well with Tapu Fini thanks to its typing, leaving Zapdos to deal with physical Grass types, and leaving Fini dealing with most special attackers. Roost grants Zapdos longevity, which is necessary due to its stealth rock simple weakness. Volt switch is here to grant Zapdos the ability to pivot, which is the only pivot move in the entire team. 252 hp EVs grant Zapdos longevity against both physical, and special pokemon, while 184 def allows its to tank physical pokemon better, while 72 spe allows Zapdos to tie with standard Fini, Heatran, and def Landorus-T sets.

heatran.gif

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Toxic
- Taunt
- Earth Power
Heatran is a great utility pokemon, breaking stall and other defensive pokemon that would not be possible with other sets such as Chansey, Toxapex, and Latios/Latias. Other than being a trapping move, Magma storm deals great damage, allowing to catch some pokemon on an aggressive double switch, such as Greninja, Landorus-T, Keldeo, or even Rotom-W. Toxic and taunt pair well with Magma storm because toxic builds up while the opponent cannot switch, and taunt forbids the opponent to use any recovery move (Heatran would lose the 1v1 duel vs Chansey and some Toxapex sets if taunt is not ran). Earth power is great on Heatran dittos who expect for you to do any fire move, it is also useful against fire types like Victini, and Tyranitar. Max hp is here for longevity, as well as leftovers, while Max spe is here to surprise the opponent who think they're faster than you, especially effective on pokemon like Heatran, and under half health Landorus-T and Gliscor.

Overall, I find the team really struggling against electric and ice types like Tapu Koko and Kyurem-B, who is able to pressure the team with its electric and fairy/ice type attacks.

I have built exactly the same team as yours and the big concern of this team is the fact that you will hardly be able to progress against the fat teams. What I want to say is that at the same time the team break not much, but on the other hand this lack of capacity to break is not compensated by a very solid defensive core. I think the Scizor + Garchomp core is just a bad idea. So of course, you have had success in the ladder, but there is little chance that you have faced fat / semi-stall builds, and therefore really understand how this team is located right between a team that is not offensive enough but not enough defensive at the same time.
