Mega Pinsir is a fearsome sweeper thanks to its high Attack stat, decent Speed stat, its ability Aerilate and access to Swords Dance. Return allows it to take care of Fighting-, Grass-, and opposing Bug-types such as Urshifu-R, Mega Venusaur, and Volcarona. Quick Attack is mainly for revenge killing faster Pokemon such as Mega Gallade and Keldeo. Close Combat enables Mega Pinsir to hit Steel-, Dark-, Ice-, Rock-, and Normal-types like Heatran, Hydreigon, Tyranitar, Kyurem, and Blissey. Mega Pinsir should try to setup against passive Pokemon such as Blissey and Ferrothorn and Pokemon it forces out like Tyranitar and Bisharp. Moxie or Hyper Cutter are both good pre-evoleuton abibtiys on Pinsir as the former allows it to gain a boost after KOing a Pokemon while the latter enables it to avoid having its attack lowered from Intimidate from Landorus-T. Pinsirite enables Pinsir to Mega Evolve into Mega Pinsir, and gains a Flying-typing along with Aerilite. A Jolly nature allows Mega Pinsir to outpace Pokemon such as Kyurem, Urshifu-R, and Celebi.
Pokemon like Galvantula and Araquanid are great to pair with Mega Pinsir to get up Sticky Web that enables Mega Pinsir to outpace faster threats such as Mega Gallade and Keldeo. Galvantula is also very useful in the Water-type matchup with using Thunder and Energy Ball to take care of Pokemon like Toxapex and Swampert that can Haze or phase out Mega Pinsir while Araquanid is more useful in coming in on Fire-type attacks from Torkoal, Blacephalon, and Volcarona and putting them on a timer with Toxic, or taking care of them with its Water STAB attack. Rapid Spin users like Forretress and Armaldo are necessary to get rid of Stealth Rock that hinders Mega Pinsir from repeatedly coming in. Forrtress can also provide Spikes support and can safely pivot in Mega Pinsir with Volt Switch. Both of these can set up Stealth Rock to make it easier for Mega Pinsir to sweep. Scizor is another great teammate that can take of Rock-types such as Terrakion and Mega Diancie that threaten Mega Pinsir, while also being vital in the Dragon-type matchup as a boosted Swords Dance Scizor can take care of fast threats like Latias, Latios, and Hydreigon with Bullet Punch after some chip damage. Volcarona is another vital teammate that greatly helps in the Steel-type matchup with using Fiery Dance and Hidden Power Ground to take care of Steel-types Mega Pinsir has trouble dealing with like Skarmory, Excadrill, and Heatran. Volcarona is also very helpful with dealing with Ice-types like Weavile and Avalugg that Mega Pinsir cannot beat. In return, Mega Pinsir can take care of Blissey for it while Volcarona can take care of Celesteela. Buzzwole is a great Choice Scarf user that greatly help in the Dragon-type matchup with Ice Punch and Leech Life, while its Fighting STAB is useful in taking care of fast Ice-, Electric-, and Fire-types such as Weavile, Tapu Koko, and Cinderace that outspeed Mega Pinsir. Heracross is another good Choice Scarf User that can Pursuit trap Victini, and take care of Ice-, Electric-, and Fire-types like Mamoswine, Zeraora, and Volcanion.
