ORAS OU Mega Medicham team

Hey guys,

This is my 1st time posting a team to be rated so be kind. The team does center around Mega Medicham (although I'll be listing it last) as well as a couple unique spreads to certain mons.

250px-563Cofagrigus.png

Cofagrigus Leftovers
Ability: Mummy
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 56 SpA / 56 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Attack
-Calm Mind
-Shadow Ball
-Rest
-Sleep Talk

This guy serves as my defensive wall, as well as a setup sweeper late game. A couple of calm minds makes him an absolute tank and pending any crits or high rolls he can put in the work. I initially used him for T-Spikes and will-o-wisp, but I've found this set does quite well.

Sylveon Choice Scarf
Ability: Pixalate
EVs: 252 SpA / 16 SpD / 240 Spd
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Attack
-Hyper Voice
-Psyshock
-HP Fire
-Baton Pass

Sylveon is my hard hitter, but also one whom I can potentially use to gain some momentum with Baton Pass (It works pretty well against the likes of Sableye, Garchomp, etc). The EVs in speed allow Sylveon to outspeed the lati twins and Thundurus (since I don't see it T-waving).

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 48 HP / 56 Atk / 244 Def / 160 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Stone Edge

Landorus' main job is to set up the hazards early game. It may seem like a weird spread, but I have my wacky reasoning. The spread in speed allows me to outspeed non-scarfed Hoopa-U and Mamoswine and U-turn out freely.

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 236 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Iron Head
- Whirlwind

I know, I know...another defensive wall. His main job is to be my hazard remover, but also kick out any mons trying to setup. Skarmory also serves as a check to Weavile, which I found is a big threat to this team.

thundurus_v_2_by_xous54-d38w12n.png

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Taunt
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Pretty self explanatory. Thundurus is the annoying prankster mon which prevents hazards and cripples faster mons to the team. I'm indifferent to the life orb as I believe something better could be given (expert belt or perhaps leftovers), but I wanted something that could provide a bit more offense.

62908_308Medicham_Mega_Dream.png

Medicham-Mega @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Drain Punch
- Poison Jab
- Psycho Cut

The captain of the team. As much as I'd like to run adamant nature, the speed is to vital. Unfortunately, Mega Medicham serves as my lone physical attacking threat. I feel as if his moveset is a bit underachieving but I needed to plug up certain moves to hit certain mons.

In Conclusion: This is the team. I've done fairly well with it despite some flaws I probably am not seeing. I climbed up to the 1400s before I found this team started to run into a lot of issues and quite frankly better players than myself. I'm open to changes/suggestions to make the team better.

Hello ImmaDutchman, how are you?

First of all, I'd just like to say "Great Job on building the team!" ^^
Building a team around Mega Medicham can be a little difficult at times, however with the right movesets, team-building for Mega Medicham can prove to be a cinch. But before we get started, could you take a quick look at my Medicham Team? It's gotten a lot of attention lately and I'm not exactly too bad when it comes to team-building.

Here's the Team: ✧✧✧Mega Medicham: A Superb Deity✧✧✧

It's probably a good idea to add that I'll mainly be offering suggestions based advice I received when Team Building (and from a great advocate I met earlier Amane Misa).

Introductions aside, let's begin.
Here are the changes:

Medicham (M) @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt
- Fake Out
- Bullet Punch

The greatest thing about using Mega Medicham is its superior, raw power. With access to moves such as High Jump Kick and Zen Headbutt, sometimes the chance to miss can prove to be worth it (bare in mind that the chance to miss is also fairly minimal i.e. less than 10% chance to miss for both moves).
You mentioned earlier that you wanted to run an adamant nature on Medicham, well with this double priority set, not only will you be able to hit incredibly hard but you will also be outspeeding a lot of Pokemon (you can even 1HKO Mega Diancie) which is always a great perk to have along side you. The move Fake Out allows you to safely Mega evolve whilst dealing a free and considerable damage! What is there not to like? ^^

landorus-therian.gif
074950.png

Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Rock Slide
- Stealth Rock

This set for Landorus-T is great for setting up entry hazards. Not only is it completely defensive but it also runs a similar moveset to the one you chose whilst being just as [if not more] effective. You can use this Landorus to switch into a lot of physical hits and then slowly U-Turn away into more favourable match-ups.
The Rocky Helmet item is a great tool for punishing Physical attackers (especially those that love spamming U-Turn ^^

You need a powerful offensive core, so here are a few options (pick one pairing):

medicham-mega.png
+
sylveon.png

Mega Medicham + Sylveon.
"medicham is a powerful wallbreaker in this meta that saw a large decline in usage since the beginning of ORAS due to the introduction of m-gallade, who has better bulk, speed, and set up options, and the introduction of new walls that medicham cant touch like mega-sableye or mega-slowbro.
however, medicham has recently seen more recognition in usage due to its sky-high attack and mega-sableye becoming less common. However, sylveon is able to break down most physical walls, including mega-sableye and mega-slowbro due to its high powered specs boosted hyper-voices. it also appreciates medicham's ability to break down special walls that wall sylveon otherwise, such as heatran or chansey"
.

medicham-mega.png
+
weavile.png

Mega Medicham and Weavile.
"This is a fairly standard but fun core to use, it features Medicham Mega as the designated wall breaker and Weavile as the cleaner. Ever since XY Medicham has hated the presence of Psychic types and Gengar, and Weavile takes care of these threats perfectly, it also provides a nice answer for Garchomp, which Medicham also hates. Overall this core performs pretty well in the current meta-game, Major downfall is however that you have to watch out for Sableye Mega. With access to Pursuit, Weavile is able to beat fleeing Psychic types such as the Lati-Twins".

medicham-mega.png
+
bisharp.png

Mega Medicham and Bisharp.
"Medicham is really good in OU right now and pretty much breaks everything apart from Slowbro, Mega Sableye, Cresselia, and Physically Defensive Mew. That's where Bisharp comes in, Bisharp breaks nearly everything that beats Medicham and they both pressure their offensive checks, ie Keldeo, Electrics, MLop, etc. Bisharp can also run Pursuit to help against Pokemon such as Celebi, Latis which can pressure Medicham a lot too".

medicham-mega.png
+
serperior.png

Mega Medicham and Serperior.
"Serperior is a special case for a sweeper. Serperior does not require a turn to set up; thanks to Contrary, it gains a +2 boost to its Special Attack every time it uses Leaf Storm, which allows it to deal damage and set up simultaneously. Because Leaf Storm has a high Base Power, Serperior can begin sweeping teams instantly. Serperior's base 113 Speed allows it to outspeed the crowded base 110 Speed tier, making it much more effective against offensive teams. Since Mega Medicham will have having trouble with Mega Sableye, Serperior is a great option for defeating the gem-eyed demon".

medicham-mega.png
+
thundurus.png
+
talonflame.png

Mega Medicham, Thundurus and Talonflame.
"This core is very dangerous offensively, as they cover a lot of each other threats. Thundurus can offer Speed Control for Mega Medicham via Thunder Wave, and do a heap of damage to a lot of Pokemon Mega Medicham hates like Mew or Slowbro. Talonflame is a good Revenge killer/Sweeper and can offer relief for Pokemon like Celebi, which is somewhat a decent Thundurus/Mega Medicham Counter. Mega Medicham is all about Wallbreaking Prowess. With Support for even its most stubborn walls".

Phew! That took forever writing. Hopefully you read all that xD

Supportive team members that helps that core:
rotom-wash.png

landorus-therian.png

Rotom Wash and Landorus-T [Supportive Defensive Core]
In any case, I'm assuming you chose the Mega Medicham + Sylveon Core. It's a really great core but [like all cores] it needs supporting team-mates. The first thing that comes to mind is that we need a Pokemon that can take on flying type attacks; and this is where the ever-so-popular Rotom Wash comes in. However in reality, any electric type Pokemon will do, especially if it has a slow Volt Switch. However for the time being let's focus on Rotom Wash. Oh and hey, it also have the added bonus of resisting Powerful Fire type attacks, which explains why it's so popular.

Rotom Wash and Landorus-T ironically form a great core. Both of which are excellent walls that defend against each others counters, and what's more they both have access to either a slow Volt Switch or U-Turn. These are great tools for allowing Mega Medicham an easy access into battles.

2 More slots, best make it count:
metagross.png
+
weavile.png

bisharp.png

tyranitar.png

Metagross, Weavile, Bisharp or Tyranitar [Pursuit Trappers -pick one]
Psychic type Pokemon give most Medicham teams a great deal of trouble, but that's were Pursuit Trappers come in. With access to high attack stats and Pursuit, all of these monsters make prime candidates for taking care of fleeing psychic type Pokemon e.g. the Lati-Twins, Celebi etc.
Note: If you chose Tyranitar, then I suggest you go for a Hazard Remover next (as that Tyranitar uses the item Choice Scarf, so it's ideal for sweeping late game).

Garchomp, Excadrill, Talonflame, Dragonite [Late Game Sweeper -pick one]

or
starmie.png
+
excadrill.png
+
zapdos.png

Starmie, Excadrill or Zapdos [Hazard Remover]
Excadrill gets a special mention as it can easily perform both roles. With access to choice scarf, a great ability in Mold Breaker and access to rapid Spin, Excadrill would easily be my Pokemon of choice. However Excadrill and Tyranitar are NOT compatible; because 1) you will be running 2 Choice Scarf Pokemon and 2) Excadrill cannot perform any other role with Tyranitar and Landorus-T on your team.

Conclusion:
It's a little detailed but I hope you'll appreciate my efforts. When creating a strong, lasting team, the more effort you apply into creating them, the better they will perform. At this point, it's the trainers skill via predictions that decides most battles. I think I'll stop talking here...

PS: You're welcome in advance ;)

Light Yagami,

A hearty thank you for the response and suggestions. You gave me far more detail and information than I ever could have hoped for (saying that as a good thing)! I will probably put a new team together with some of the suggestions you've listed and see how it fairs compared to the team I had put together.

The 2nd team will probably have the starting core of Mega Medicham, defensive Lando-T, and offensive Sylveon (just wondering which choiced item I'd prefer it to have...I'm thinking specs might be the right fit).

I believe the final three slots I will have as follows and adjust if needed.
rotom-wash.png
Defensive Rotom-Wash for flying & fire types.

weavile.png
An offensive Weavile, but also serving as the pursuit trapper.

excadrill.png
Late game sweeper Excadrill. Really wanted to try out the Garchomp, but I like having the ability to spin away hazards if need be.

Again, thank you for the reply and I'll be sure to post back and let you know how these changes worked out.

LOL don't mentioned it, glad I could help.

PS: I look forward to hearing back from you about the details on how your team fare in battle. Best of luck:)
P.P.S: Yup. Choice Spec is the superior item of choice for a Sylveon (as it boosts the power of Hyper voice to insane levels).
Sylveon is far too slow to out speed anything even with Choice Scarf i.e. Sylveon is slower than Magikarp, Kingler and even Claydol...
