1v1 Mega-Latias [QC: 3/3] [GP: 2/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Mega Latias is a force to be reckoned with in 1v1; it acts as a fast Stored Power user with immense bulk, sits in a solid Speed tier that outspeeds Garchomp and Zygarde, and has decent initial power. Furthermore, a wide variety of status moves allow it to cripple Pokemon that may otherwise overwhelm it like Primarina and Incineroar. However, while Mega Latias does have extremely high base stats, its poor typing causes it to be hit super effectively by many prevalent Pokemon like Mega Gardevoir and Mega Charizard X. Additionally, due to its reliance on Calm Mind and Charm, Mega Latias is shut down by bulky Taunt users like Mega Gyarados and Tapu Fini.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Calm Mind allows Mega Latias to tank moves better from special attackers like Primarina, non-Taunt Tapu Fini, and Magnezone while also letting it defeat opposing setup Pokemon like Iron Defense + Calm Mind Necrozma and Type: Null in conjunction with STAB Stored Power. Roost allows Mega Latias to heal damage taken from specially attacking Pokemon like Mega Altaria while boosting its Special Defense to eventually take negligible damage from them. Draco Meteor allows Mega Latias to OHKO many prevalent Pokemon like Zygarde, Greninja, Blacephalon, and Garchomp. Reflect Type can be another option instead of Draco Meteor to take on Pokemon Mega Latias would normally struggle against like non-Taunt Mega Aggron, Mega Metagross, and Magearna while also solidifying matchups such as against Substitute stalling Venusaur and Ferrothorn. Charm is another option that allows Mega Latias to defeat physical attackers like bulky Flame Charge Mega Charizard X and Buzzwole.

Set Details
========

Mega Latias has a great ability in Levitate, which allows it to defeat Ground-reliant attackers like Tectonic Rage Landorus-T, Donphan, and Golem, which some other bulky setup Pokemon like Registeel would struggle against. 32 HP and 12 Special Defense EVs allow Mega Latias to tank neutral-natured Choice Specs Greninja's Ice Beam. 232 Speed EVs and a Timid nature let Mega Latias outspeed Modest Greninja and Blacephalon, which would otherwise OHKO it. 232 Special Attack EVs allow Mega Latias to OHKO specially defensive Kommo-o, Blacephalon, and Greninja using Draco Meteor. If you run Charm or Reflect Type, use an EV spread of 184 HP / 72 Def / 252 Spe with a Timid nature to maximize physical bulk and to defeat Mega Lopunny, Supersonic Skystrike Landorus-T, Magearna, Mega Aggron, and Mega Metagross, as well as Mega Gyarados and Mega Charizard X without Taunt and Dragon Dance, respectively.

Usage Tips
========

Against Type: Null, Magnezone, and Primarina, which Mega Latias is unable to OHKO with Draco Meteor, the best choice is usually to to maximize Stored Power damage. Against Steel-types that learn Metal Sound like Magnezone and Heatran, Mega Latias should first use Calm Mind two times, then use Stored Power followed by Draco Meteor. It is best to start off with Charm against physical attackers that would threaten Mega Latias otherwise, such as bulky Mega Charizard X. Against Pokemon that would threaten Mega Latias's Dragon / Psychic typing, like Magearna and Mega Metagross, Reflect Type should always be used on turn one. Against other stall Pokemon like Necrozma, Slowbro, and Type: Null, you should almost always use Calm Mind up to +6 before starting to attack with Stored Power and use Roost when necessary. The Normalium Z Porygon-Z matchup is a risky one, on account of mind games between using Reflect Type on Porygon-Z to become a Normal-type before it uses Z-Conversion to transform into a Ghost-type and using Calm Mind in anticipation of Breakneck Blitz.

Team Options
========

Pokemon with a Steel / Fairy typing like Mega Mawile and Magearna make for good teammates, as they can deal with Fairy- and Dark-types, as well as bulky offensive threats like Tapu Lele, Mega Gardevoir, Crustle, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Heracross, while Mega Latias can cover their weaknesses to foes like Zygarde, Donphan, and Magnezone. Heatran serves as a uniquely good partner for Mega Latias. Mega Latias appreciates Heatran's ability to deal with Fairy-types like Gardevoir and Tapu Lele, Steel-types like Mega Mawile and Mega Metagross, and other threats to Mega Latias like offensive Mega Charizard X, Substitute stalling Serperior, and Porygon-Z. Heatran in return appreciates Mega Latias's ability to OHKO threats like Greninja, Zygarde, Kommo-o, and Garchomp as well as outstall Water-types like Primarina and non-Taunt Tapu Fini. Shell Smash users with Sturdy like Crustle and Carracosta make for good teammates, as they can deal with offensive Pokemon like Porygon-Z, Mega Gardevoir, and both formes of Mega Charizard. Crustle and Carracosta in return appreciate Mega Latias's ability to deal with certain Sturdy users like Magnezone and Donphan as well as bulky Dragon-types like Zygarde and Kommo-o. Physically bulky Pokemon like Mega Slowbro and Mega Tyranitar make for good teammates, as they are able to deal with strong physical hitters; otherwise, Mega Latias would not be able to deal with foes like Crustle, Mega Charizard X, and Dragonite. They in return appreciate Mega Latias's ability to beat special attackers like Primarina, non-Taunt Tapu Fini, and Greninja.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Mega Latias can run an alternative set with Draco Meteor, Reflect Type, Charm, and Roost to gain an advantage over Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X. However, many crucial matchups against non-Taunt Tapu Fini, Primarina, and Type: Null are lost. Substitute is an option instead of Draco Meteor to deal with Magearna, status users like Porygon2, and Zapdos, and FEAR users like Aron.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster or Extremely Bulky Dragon-types**: While Mega Latias does have immense bulk, it is not enough to take powerful STAB Outrages or Draco Meteors from Pokemon like Dragonite, Choice Scarf Haxorus, and Naganadel.

**Super Effective Attacks**: Pokemon with hard-hitting super effective moves like Aegislash, Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-U, Choice Band Pheromosa, and Volcarona are able to OHKO Mega Latias without allowing it to set up.

**Overwhelming Offense**: Pokemon like Meloetta, Metal Sound Celesteela, Crustle, and Choice Band Archeops, which have extremely high offensive presence and either outspeed Mega Latias or survive its attacks, are able to KO Mega Latias without even needing to use super effective moves.

**Faster SubSeed Users**: Faster Pokemon with Leech Seed like Serperior and Jumpluff are able to get Leech Seed off without being OHKOed and then outstall Mega Latias's Roost.

**Steel-types**: While Mega Latias is able to break through certain Steel-types like Magnezone and Heatran, Steel-type Pokemon with setup moves like Registeel can outstall Mega Latias in a setup war, while Steel-type Pokemon that can hit it super effectively like Mega Mawile and Genesect are able to OHKO it.

**Taunt Users**: Taunt users like Mega Gyarados, Kee Berry Mew, Tapu Fini, Mega Sableye, Mega Tyranitar, and Whimsicott are able to prevent Mega Latias's status moves and eventually defeat it.

Bolded is additions, strikethrough is stuff that should be removed, underline needs to be edited in some way, red is comments. All information I bring are based on 1630 Usage stats (considering anything at or above 6% as of October 2019 usage relevant) and Calcs.
[OVERVIEW]
  • Mega-Latias acts as a fast Stored Power user that is able to defeat other stall users like Necrozma, Mega-Slowbro, and Type: Null.
  • Mega-Latias is able to defeat some of what other stall users struggle against like Mega-Slowbro and Necrozma's problem with Greninja, Magnezone, and Blacephalon.
  • Mega-Latias has a great ability in Levitate, which allows it to defeat ground reliant attackers like Groundium Landorus-Therian, Donphan, and Golem which another stall user, Registeel would struggle against.
  • Mega-Latias has high defensive stats while being in a respectable speed tier, allowing it to defeat slower Dragon types like Zygarde and Garchomp. but also fast, frail pokemon like Greninja.
  • Mega-Latias' high defensive stats along with the move Calm Mind allows it to tank many slower special attackers.
  • While Mega-Latias does have extremely high base stats, it's poor typing causes it to be hit super effectively by many prevelant pokemon like Mega-Gardevoir and Mega-Charizard.
  • Mega-Latias is limited by a move pool of 4, forcing it have to throw away some matchups other sets would win against.

Moves
========

  • Calm Mind allows Mega-Latias to boost its special defense, allowing it to tank moves better from special attackers like Primarina, non-Taunt Tapu Fini, and non-Mirror Coat Magnezone while also boosting its special attack, allowing it to defeat opposing stall like Iron Defense Calm Mind Necrozma and Type: Null in conjunction with STAB-boosted Stored Power
  • Roost is used to heal damage taken from pokemon like Mega-Altaria and other pokemon that hit on the special side after having its special defense boosted
  • Draco Meteor is one of Mega-Latias' strongest STAB moves, allowing it to OHKO many prevalent pokemon like Zygarde, Greninja, and Garchomp
  • Reflect Type is another option instead of Draco Meteor that allows Mega-Latias to take on pokemon it normally would struggle against like non-Taunt Mega-Aggron. Mega-Metagross and Magearna, while also solidifying matchups such as Sub-Stall Venusaur and Ferrothorn.
  • Charm is an option that allows Mega-Latias to defeat Mega-Pinsir u already ohko with draco meteor and Buzzwole, assuming that Mega-Pinsir is not the Swords Dance variant, in which case becomes a 50/50 much in your favor.

Set Details
========

  • 32 HP and 12 SpD maximizes bulk while allowing Mega-Latias to tank timid neutral natured Choice Specs Greninja Ice Beam.
  • 232 Speed lets Mega-Latias outspeed Modest Greninja and Ghostium/Specs Blacephalon who would otherwise OHKO it.
  • 232 SpA allows Mega-Latias to OHKO both Sp. Def Kommo-o and Greninja using Draco Meteor.
  • Levitate assists Mega-Latias in defeating ground reliant attackers such as Donphan and Groundium Z Landorus-Therian.
  • You need to include the evs run with Reflect type and Charm. Just move them from OO up here

Usage Tips
========

  • In most cases, when Mega-Latias' is unable to OHKO the opposing pokemon with Draco Meteor, the best choice is usually to Calm Mind up to maximize damage with Stored Power.
  • Against Steel-types that learn Metal Sound like non-Mirror Coat Magnezone and Heatran, the optimal play is to use Calm Mind twice before clicking Stored Power followed by another Stored Power or Draco Meteor, depending on whether or not you can KO the opposing pokemon. no, the optimal play would be to calm mind once then spam draco meteor, as that 2hkos magnezone. Only cm twice against heatran
  • If Mega-Latias is running Charm or Reflect Type, the best course of action is usually do start the match with one of those moves. no, you don't charm special attackers. Just say to charm physical mons who would threaten you otherwise, or reflect type on mons that can threaten your dragon/psychic type
  • Against Landorus-Therian and other pokemon with physical setup, it is best to stall out their setup using Charm before Calm Minding up.
  • Against other stall pokemon like Necrozma or Slowbro, you should almost always Calm Mind up to +6 before starting to attack with Stored Power.

Team Options
========
  • Steel / Fairy type Pokemon like Mega-Mawile and Magearna make for good teammates as they can deal with Fairy- and Dark-types, as well as bulky offense threats, like Tapu-Lele, Tapu-Bulu, not rlly a threat with charm Mega-Gardevoir, Crustle, Mega-Gyarados, and Mega-Heracross, while Mega-Latias can cover their weaknesses like Zygarde, Donphan, Dragonite, not really? ddance dragonium wins with z-dragon dance against charm, draco never kos so you lose there, and Magnezone.
  • Heatran serves as a uniquely good partner for Mega-Latias. Mega-Latias appreciates Heatran's ability in dealing with Fairy types like Gardevoir and Tapu-Lele, Steel types like Mega-Mawile and Mega-Metagross, and other threats to Mega-Latias like Mega-Charizard-X, Sub-Stall Serperior, and Porygon-Z. Heatran in return appreciates Mega-Latias' ability of OHKOing threats like Greninja, Zygarde, Kommo-o, and Garchomp as well as out-stalling Water types like Primarina and non-Taunt Tapu-Fini.
  • Some physical attackers like Archeops and Haxorus cover some of Mega-Latias' Fairy problems and appreciate Mega-Latias' ability to deal with certain stall users. this is vague af. Either remove it or flesh it out
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Replacing Stored Power with Charm along with an alternate EV set of 184 HP / 72 Def / 252 Spe can be used to defeat Mega-Lopunny, Flyinium Landorus-T, as well as non-Taunt Mega-Gyarados and Mega-Charizard-X without Dragon Dance. However, matchups against certain stall users like Type: Null and Fairy types like Primarina and Tapu-Fini are thrown away.
  • Reflect Type with the previously stated EVs is an option that can be swapped with Draco Meteor to allow Mega-Latias defeat many slower Steel-types like Mega-Aggron, Mega-Metagross and Magearna, though both the Greninja and Kommo-o matchup would be thrown away.
  • rofl these need to be under set details, not OO. These are just the standard evs run when you aren't running draco meteor.
  • I would say mega latias doesn't rlly have any viable OOs

Checks and Counters

**Steel Types**: While Mega-Latias is able to break through certain steel types like Magnezone and Heatran, Steel-typed pokemon with setup like Registeel and Magearna can outstall Mega-Latias in a setup war, while super-effectively hitting Steel-type pokemon like Mega-Mawile and Genesect are able to OHKO it.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Put a bullet here about how latias is super bulky, since that is one of the defining aspects of it as a pokemon
  • Mega-Latias acts as a fast Stored Power user with the speed, bulk, and initial power to threaten Zygarde, Garchomp, and Greninja. Stored Power isn't used to beat these things. Even if you did change it to Draco Meteor, I strongly advise putting points like this in the Overview when they're better off in Moves.
  • Mega-Latias has a great ability in Levitate, which allows it to defeat ground reliant attackers like Groundium Landorus-Therian, Donphan, and Golem which another stall user, Registeel would struggle against. This is more of a Set Detail than an Overview point.
  • Put a point here about how Latias uses status moves to deal with pokemon that may otherwise overwhelm it like Primarina and Incineroar
  • While Mega-Latias does have extremely high base stats, it's poor typing causes it to be hit super effectively by many prevelant pokemon like Mega-Gardevoir and Mega-Charizard X.
  • Due to being reliant on Calm Mind or Charm Mega-Latias is shutdown against bulky Taunt users like Mega-Gyarados and Tapu-Fini.

  • 32 HP and 12 SpD maximizes bulk while allowing Mega-Latias to tank neutral natured Choice Specs Greninja Ice Beam.
  • 232 Speed and a Timid nature lets Mega-Latias outspeed Modest Greninja and Ghostium/Specs Blacephalon who would otherwise OHKO it.
  • 232 SpA allows Mega-Latias to OHKO both Sp. Def Kommo-o, Blacephalon, and Greninja using Draco Meteor.

Usage Tips
========

  • In most cases cases like what? You always wanna be sure to include examples when using broad/vague/generalizing statements like these, when Mega-Latias' is unable to OHKO the opposing pokemon with Draco Meteor, the best choice is usually to Calm Mind up to maximize damage with Stored Power.
  • Against Steel-types that learn Metal Sound like non-Mirror Coat Magnezone and Heatran, you should first Calm Mind up two times, then use Stored Power followed up by Draco Meteor.
  • It is best to start off with Charm against physical attackers that would threaten you otherwise such as bulky Mega Charizard X.
  • Reflect Type should be used turn 1 against pokemon that would threaten you Dragon/Psychic typing, like Magearna.
  • Against other stall pokemon like Necrozma or Slowbro, you should almost always Calm Mind up to +6 before starting to attack with Stored Power. Make sure to waste all of the Confide PP of Type: Null; if they do not use Confide on a turn, attack the next turn until they confide again, they continue calm minding.
  • Add a bullet here about how the Normalium Porygon-Z matchup is a 50/50, on account of either using Reflect Type on Porygon-Z to become Normal type before it Z-Converts into Ghost, or using Calm Mind in prediction of a Z-Hyper Beam.

Team Options
========
  • Steel / Fairy type Pokemon like Mega-Mawile and Magearna make for good teammates as they can deal with Fairy- and Dark- types, as well as bulky offensive threats, like Tapu-Lele, Mega-Gardevoir, Crustle, Mega-Gyarados, and Mega-Heracross, while Mega-Latias can cover their weaknesses like Zygarde, Donphan, and Magnezone.
  • Heatran serves as a uniquely good partner for Mega-Latias. Mega-Latias appreciates Heatran's ability in dealing with Fairy types like Gardevoir and Tapu-Lele, Steel types like Mega-Mawile and Mega-Metagross, and other threats to Mega-Latias like offensive Mega-Charizard-X, Sub-Stall Serperior, and Porygon-Z. Heatran in return appreciates Mega-Latias' ability of OHKOing threats like Greninja, Zygarde, Kommo-o, and Garchomp as well as out-stalling Water types like Primarina and non-Taunt Tapu-Fini.
  • Any other types or groups of pokemon Latias can work well with? Surely it has more than just three viable partners?

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster or extremely bulky Dragon Types**: While Mega-Latias does have immense bulk, it is not enough to take powerful STAB-boosted Outrages or Draco Meteors from pokemon like Dragonite, Scarfed Haxorus, and Naganadel.

**Super-effective attacks**: add something for pokemon that simply KO you by hitting you with their super-effective moves like Aegislash, Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-U, Choice Band Pheromosa, Volcarona, etc.

**Overwhelming offense**: add something about pokemon that just KO Latias without even needing to be super effective, like Meloetta, Metal Sound Celesteela, Crustle, and Choice Band Archeops.

**Faster Sub-Seeders**: Faster pokemon with Leech Seed like Serperior and Jumpluff are able to get Leech Seed off without being OHKO'd and then outstall Mega-Latias' recovery move, Roost.

**Steel Types**: While Mega-Latias is able to break through certain steel types like Magnezone and Heatran, Steel-typed pokemon with setup like Registeel and Magearna this loses to Reflect Type can outstall Mega-Latias in a setup war, while super-effectively hitting Steel-type pokemon like Mega-Mawile and Genesect are able to OHKO it.

**Taunt users**: add something for Taunt users like Mega Gyarados, Kee Berry Mew, Tapu Fini, Mega Sableye, Mega Tyranitar, and Whimsicott that block off your status moves.

Calm Mind allows Mega-Latias Mega Latias to boost its Special Defense, allowing it to tank moves better from special attackers like Primarina, non-Taunt Tapu Fini, and Magnezone, (AC) while also boosting its Special Attack, allowing it to defeat opposing stall Pokemon ("stall" on its own is an entire playstyle and cannot be defeated in battle!) like Iron Defense + (add the '+' sign) Calm Mind Necrozma and Type: Null in conjunction with STAB-boosted Stored Power. Roost allows Mega-Latias Mega Latias to heal damage taken from specially attacking Pokemon like Mega-Altaria Mega Altaria and other Pokemon that hit on the special side after having while boosting (unclear what the original sentence meant, but I'm guessing it's this) its Special Defense to eventually take negligent damage from them. Draco Meteor is Mega-Latias' Mega Latias's strongest STAB moves move, allowing it to OHKO many prevalent Pokemon like Zygarde, Greninja, Blacephalon, and Garchomp. Mega-Latias Mega Latias has a great ability in Levitate, which allows it to defeat ground Ground-reliant attackers like Groundium Landorus-Therian Tectonic Rage Landorus-T, Donphan, and Golem, (AC) which some other stall Pokemon users, (RC) (also, I’m not sure “stall” is the right word for a set that is named “offensive Stored Power”. maybe try “some other bulky Pokemon”?) like Registeel would struggle against. 32 HP and 12 SpD Special Defense EVs are invested to maximize bulk and (fluff; the main reason for this investment is to tank the specific hit) allow Mega-Latias Mega Latias to tank neutral-natured (add hyphen) Choice Specs Greninja Greninja's Ice Beam. 232 Speed EVs and a Timid nature lets Mega-Latias let Mega Latias outspeed Modest Greninja and Ghostium/Specs (looking at Blacephalon's analysis, these are the only two sets anyway, so I don't think you need to specify; otherwise you could just condense it to "offensive Blacephalon sets") Blacephalon, (AC) which who would otherwise OHKO it. 232 SpA allows Mega-Latias Special Attack EVs allow Mega Latias to OHKO both Sp. If you run Charm or Reflect Type, use an EV spread of 184 HP / 72 Def / 252 Spe with a Timid nature to maximize physical bulk (might be a good idea to specify how this maximizes physical bulk, eg. does it survive anything special?) and to defeat Mega-Lopunny, Flyinium Mega Lopunny, Supersonic Skystrike Landorus-T, Magearna, Mega Aggron, and Mega Metagross, as well as non-Taunt Mega-Gyarados and Mega-Charizard-X without Dragon Dance Mega Gyarados and Mega Charizard X without Taunt and Dragon Dance, respectively (rearranged to sound clearer).

Steel / Fairy type (RH) Pokemon like Mega Mawile and Magearna make for good teammates as they can deal with Fairy- and Dark-types, as well as bulky offensive threats, like Tapu Lele, Mega Gardevoir, Crustle, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Heracross, while Mega Latias(space)can cover their weaknesses to foes like Zygarde, Donphan, and Magnezone. Heatran serves as a uniquely good partner for Mega Latias. Mega Latias appreciates Heatran's ability to deal with Fairy-types (AH) like Gardevoir and Tapu Lele, Steel-types like Mega Mawile and Mega Metagross, and other threats to Mega Latias like offensive Mega Charizard X, Substitute stalling (RH) Serperior, and Porygon-Z. Heatran in return appreciates Mega Latias's ability to OHKO threats like Greninja, Zygarde, Kommo-o, and Garchomp as well as outstalling outstall Water-types like Primarina and non-Taunt Tapu Fini. Shell Smash users with Sturdy like Crustle and Carracosta make for good teammates, (AC) as they can deal with offensive Pokemon like Porygon-Z, Mega Gardevoir, and both formes of Mega Charizard. Crustle and Carracosta in return appreciate Mega Latias's ability to deal with certain Sturdy users like Magnezone and Donphan (RC) as well as bulky Dragon-types like Zygarde and Kommo-o. Physically Pokemon like Mega Slowbro and Mega Tyranitar make for good teammates, (AC) as they are able to deal with strong physical hitters; otherwise, Mega Latias would not be able to deal with foes like Crustle, Mega Charizard X, and Dragonite. They in return appreciate Mega Latias's ability to beat special attackers like Primarina, non-Taunt Tapu Fini, and Greninja.

Other Options
=============

===================

**Faster or Extremely Bulky Dragon-types**: While Mega Latias does have immense bulk, it is not enough to take powerful STAB-boosted Outrages or Draco Meteors from Pokemon like Dragonite, Choice Scarf Haxorus, and Naganadel.

**Super Effective Attacks**: Pokemon with hard-hitting super effective moves like Aegislash, Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-U, Choice Band Pheromosa, and Volacrona Volcarona are able to OHKO Mega Latias (RH) without it being able allowing it to set up.

Calm Mind allows Mega Latias to tank moves better from special attackers like Primarina, non-Taunt Tapu Fini, and Magnezone while also letting it defeat opposing setup Pokemon like Iron Defense + Calm Mind Necrozma and Type: Null in conjunction with STAB-boosted Stored Power.

Set Details

Usage Tips
========
