Mega Latias uses its solid bulk and defensive profile to take advantage of and set up on Pokemon such as Great Tusk, Mega Charizard Y, and Urshifu-R. Most notably, it uses its solid Speed stat to outspeed and threaten Pokemon like Kartana, Mega Medicham, and Garchomp. These traits, in combination with its diverse movepool, make Mega Latias an acceptable wincon. Psyshock lets Mega Latias hit strong specially defensive walls such as Chansey and Slowking-G while also allowing it to threaten other setup sweepers such as Clefable and Volcarona. Aura Sphere removes threatening Dark-types such as Kingambit and Weavile while also preventing Steel-types like Heatran and Ferrothorn from safely dealing with it. Mystical Fire can be used to threaten Gholdengo while still threatening Kingambit and Weavile somewhat, but it leaves it vulnerable to Mega Tyranitar, Heatran, and Hydreigon. Alternatively, Ice Beam + Thunder can be used on Mega Latias to give it perfect coverage and let it threaten Pokemon like Landorus-T and Gliscor, but it lacks immediate power, notably leaving it unable to threaten any Pursuit trappers. Pokemon such as Buzzwole and Toxapex form good defensive cores with Mega Latias, handling Pokemon like Iron Valiant and Kingambit for it while Mega Latias deals with Mega Charizard Y and Zapdos in return. Offensive teammates such as Kingambit and Great Tusk are also useful for pressuring checks such as Weavile, opposing Kingambit, and Gholdengo. Spikes support from the likes of Skarmory and Clodsire can be used to wear down checks to Mega Latias such as the aforementioned Kingambit and Gholdengo. Mega Latias is prone to being chipped down by Toxic and Stealth Rock, so teammates that deal with that weakness such as Gliscor, Toxapex, and Gholdengo are appreciated; the former provides valuable Defog support for it.

These traits, in combination with its diverse movepool, make Mega Latias an acceptable wincon. Mystical Fire can be used to threaten Gholdengo while still threatening Kingambit and Weavile somewhat, but leaves it vulnerable to Mega Tyranitar, Heatran, and Hydreigon. Alternatively, Ice Beam + Thunder can be used on Mega Latias to give it perfect coverage mention the threats you can beat, e.g. glisc and lando can no longer take hits but does lack immediate power, notably leaving it unable to threaten any Pursuit trappers. Pokemon such as Buzzwole and Toxapex form good defensive cores with Mega Latias, comma handling Pokemon like Iron Valiant and Kingambit for it while Mega Latias deals with Mega Charizard Y and Zapdos in return.
