Mega Garchomp Team! Rate and give advice!

Finding out that high atk of mega garchomp, made me really want to make a team to revolve around making it a beast. Been trying this team on showdown and been getting good result! So here it is.

445-m.png

Mega Garchomp@Garchompite
Ability:Sand Force
Jolly Nature
EV's:252 Atk/252 Spe/4 Def
- Fire Fang
- Poison Jab
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake

Obviously the star of this team. With the 170 Atk he can sweep team with ease. Shame that he loses his speed when he mega evolve though that is why I have Scolipede to set him up. I been able to easily sweep dozens of team with mega garchomp. Able to switch in to fire attacks since players would usually use a fire move to Scolipede. Debating if I should go mixed garchomp or just pure attack.

545.png

Scolipede@Black Sludge
Ability:Speed Boost
Impish Nature
EV's:252 Hp/252 Def/4 Sdef
- Sword Dance
- Protect
- Baton Pass
- Megahorn

Scolipede is a perfect support for Garchomp. He gives him the speed boost that he lost from the mega plus more. He also gives Garchomp the attack boost from sword dance. You can easily lead with Scolipede, Protect/sword dance/ protect/ baton pass. Even if your opponent tries to 1hit KO you, you got the focus sash. Sweeped countless of teams just with this. Debating whether to use Black sludge or Focus Sash since Tyranitar sandstorm can easily just break it. I added Mega horn just incase I get taunted and such.

248.png

Tyranitar@Leftover
Ability:Sand Stream
Careful Nature
EV's:252 HP/252 SpD/4 Def
- Stealth Rock
- Crunch
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge

I heard Tyranitar and Garchomp is a match from heaven. Sand storm and Mega Garchomp Sand Force just causes Garchomp to do so much dmg! Tyranitar is also my stealth rock setter and my special wall. I actually have had multiple battles where Garchomp has fainted and able to pass sword dance to Tyranitar form Scolipede instead to sweep the enemy team.

212.png

Scizor@Life Orb
Ability:Technician
Adamant Nature
EV's:252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
- U-turn
- Defog
- Roost
- Bullet Punch

I was planning to make a Mega Scizor team before I found out how powerful Mega Garchomp was. However I still love scizor and it helps cover Garchomps x4 ice weakness. He also clears any entry hazard with defog and Bullet punch just does tons of damage to any ice/fairy/dragons that try and screw with my mega garchomp. Scizor can also make use of the sword dance that scolipede can pass.

468.png

Togekiss@Leftover
Ability:Serene Grace
Bold Nature
EV's:252 HP/252 Def/4 Spd
- Thunder Wave
- Air Slash
- Roost
- Aura Sphere

Once I found out about how togekiss can paraflinch someone I instantly had to have it on my team. Just watching your opponent not being able to attack is hilarious. Togekiss also is immune to dragon attacks so I can switch garchomp out, and also covers Tyranitar weakness such as Earthquake and any fighting moves.

658.png

Greninja@Life Orb
Ability:Protean
Timid Nature
EV's:252 Spa/252 Spe/4 Def
- Extrasensory
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse

I use to have Kingdra on my team but the set up and the speed on kingdra made me lose lots of battles. I replaced it with Greninja since its faster AND hits hard with his protean. Once I had Greninja on my team, I felt that my team just got way more scarier.

Been having a lot of success with this team, still a work in progress. I would love to have any advice and criticism that I need to improve this team. Cheers!

I'm just gonna start what you team should be right of the bat.

M-Garchomp @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin (Sand Force)
Nature: Hasty
EVs: 252 Spe / 176 Atk / 82 SpA
- Fire Blast
- Poison Jab
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake

This is a Mixed Set. Fire Blast will give all Physical Steel types a problem. Poison Jab hits Fairies who resist Dragon Claw.

Scolipede @ Focus Sash
Ability: Speed Boost
Nature: Careful
EVs: 252 SpD / 252 Def / 6 HP
- Baton Pass
- Protect
- Swords Dance
- Megahorn

With the defensive EVs, Scolipede can Protect, Swords Dance, Protect, Baton Pass. You may even get two Swords Dances with these defenses.

Tyranitar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sand Stream
Nature: Careful
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 6 Def
- Earthquake
- Pursuit / Crunch
- Fire Punch
- Stone Edge

Assault Vest change helps it further with Special Defense, and since you have a Defogger, Stealth Rock is nearly useless. The rest is self-explanatory.

Scizor @ Life Orb
Ability:Technician
Nature: Adamant
EVs:252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
- U-turn
- Defog
- Roost
- Bullet Punch

Nothing wrong with this.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 HP / 6 Atk
- Iron Head
- Thunder Wave
- Fire Punch
- Wish

Jirachi won't just Paraflinch, it can also use Wish to heal any Pokemon with low health. It also can cover your Ice weakness with Fire Punch. Jirachi also resists Ice unlike Togekiss.

Kingdra @ Scope Lens
Ability: Sniper
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 SpA / 4 Def
- Focus Energy
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Flash Cannon

This is for accuracy purposes and you wont get decreased Special Attack from Draco Meteor. I really would recommend Volcarona over this. If you want Volcarona, this is a great set.

Volcarona @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
Nature: Timid
EVs: 184 Spe / 176 SpA / 92 HP / 40 Def / 16 SpD
- Quiver Dance
- Roost
- Bug Buzz
- Fiery Dance

The weird EV spread works wonders.

Hello there!

Your team is very well built, however, there is a little nitpick. Your team doesn't like Kyurem-B. The only things willing to take on Kyurem-B are Scizor and Togekiss. Once behind a Sub, Kyurem-B will have no problem Earth Powering or Fusion Bolting your Scizor to death. Also, Kyurem-B outspeeds Togekiss, meaning it can get off a super-effective Ice Beam before you can hit it. Of course, this isn't really too much of a threat, it's just something I noticed while glancing over your team.

Also, I suggest making Mega-Garchomp Adamant. If you didn't have the support from Scolipede, then I'd say keep as is, however once you have 1 or 2 speed boosts up from Scolipede, there won't be much things outspeeding you. It doesn't hurt to have that extra bit of power.

Other then that, a ver good team indeed!

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah I been spamming draco meteor on kingdra over and over again and its seems to be doing around the same damage. Looked at the wiki page:
Critical hits ignore the halved Attack from burn and all stat modifiers, even beneficial ones.

I actually really like the jirachi change, though togekiss can also learn wish too. Too bad I can't get the perfect one on my pokemon x game... Do you think using togekiss wouldn't be that bad?

Also what are the advantage of using volcarona over kingdra? They both seem like really good pokemons, just don't know which one would fit this team more.

Thanks alot Stardust! I'm already on my way to breeding my team!

I'm not sure what it is, but that Volcarona with those defensive EVs can usually get up 6 Quiver Dances, Roost, Sweep. But if you do choose Volcarona, Rapid Spin support is necessary. Also, Aqua Jet will end Volcarona.. Also, Kingdra has good synergy with Garchomp, just saying.

Updated! Though debating whether it make Garchomp a mixed attacker or just pure physical and take advantage of the sword dance buff and make him adamant according to Kangaaroo. I'll check out your team Stardust! But I'm not too experienced with pokemon. Also I don't see how garchomp and kingdra has good synergy.

On the side note, debating whether to just use togekiss and be hyper offensive with it with choice scarf and other moves instead of bulky paraflinch.

Hello there! Pretty solid team here. I do have a few suggestions. First, Black Sludge / Lefties over Sash on Scolipede. Tyranitar's Sand might break your Sash before you could actually use it. Second, replace Tyranitar's Earthquake with Pursuit. It allows you to trap the Latis, who are a huge threat to Mega Chomp as they outspeed. Finally, replace Kingdra with Scarf Keldeo. Critdra is pretty good once it gets going, but it's Speed sometimes lets it down as a sweeper. Scarf Keldeo is a consistent threat that can punch holes in your opponents teams without the need of Focus Energy. Btw on the Volcarona topic, I'll also post a set that has been working wonders for me just in case you want to use it lol
Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
- Hidden Power [Flying]
Pretty standard moveset. Dual stabs Hydro Pump and Secret Sword. Icy Wind for Dragons and also has a nifty -1 Speed effect. HP Flying for Mega Venusaur.

Volcarona @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spd
Bold Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Fiery Dance
- Roost
Bulky Volcarona turns Conkledurr and Aegislash to pure setup fodder. Best to have SR support before using though, but it will pay off. Here is a replay of me using it (forgive my crappy playing though lol).
Hope I helped and good luck with your team!

Thanks for the advice! I'm a little iffy about removing focus sash on Scolipede. I really like to ensure the protect/sword dance/protect/baton pass combo. If they find an opportunity to one hit my scolipede in the sword dance, he kinda useless... However I changed him to be more defensive so he might actually survive most moves. I'll give it a shot. I'll re-add Pursuit back to tyranitar however would I still need crunch?

About Kingdra... I'm really debating whether I should keep it or not. I agree with you since it is like 50/50 that I can pull a sweep off on Kingdra since most things in OU will be able to outspeed it. Which is why I have scolipede. Keldeo seems really good however I can't get it since its an event pokemon. Still debating about volcarona. If I'm planning to replace Kingdra I kinda want it to have good synergy with the team. Though I actually found out Kindra doesn't even resist Ice for garchomp weakness. I been looking at other options so currently other pokemon I'm considering Greninja, Starmie, Gengar and maybe Alazkazam and finally Colcarona.

With the way your team is structured with bulky pokemon that pack a punch sticky web support could be useful.

I'm not too sure of having two supports on the team since I consider scolipede to be my support.

I actually like that since it would really help Kingdras lack of speed and same with togekiss. However I think I might have to rework my team a lot to include this. I also have an issue since I usually lead with Scolipede and set up. Not sure when I can set up stick web since I have the same issue with stealth rock tyranitar before.
Personally, I would lead with something other than scolepede. First, where down the opponents team with togekiss and scizor, and tyranitar, until most of there pokemon are at 65% or below. Then, bring scolepede in at the right moment, say on a fighting move, then go for a late game sweep. Good luck laddering!

Hmmm I'll give that a shot. Should I put back stealth rock on Tyranitar? or actually would I should I add a stick web setter?
Yes, I think it would be benificial for your team. Try Using:
92089d1387213810-breath-fresh-air-gen-6-ou-rmt-tyranitar_xy.png

Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
Sassy Nature
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SAtk

- Steath Rock
- Crunch
- Fire Blast - Hits Ferrothorn and Scizor Harder.
- Stone Edge

Focus Sash does guarantee that you pass at least +2 Atk and +1 Speed (w/o damaging weather and priority of course) but you'll be limiting Scolipede to 1 pass when you depend on Sash. Sandstorm from your Tyranitar and opposing weather (Hail maybe lol) would break you Sash even if you Protect. But if you're really that iffy then keep Sash lmao.

About Keldeo, I didn't know you're using this team on cartridge, sorry about that. If so I recommend Greninja over Kingdra. Greninja is faster and hits harder thanks to Protean. It is quite easy to obtain too.
Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump / Surf
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse
- Extrasensory
Extrasensory nails Mega Venusaur harder than Ice Beam does. It learns it by level up iirc.
Hope I helped and good luck with your team!!

Edited my team! After using Greninja instead of Kingdra on showdown. Its showing really good results. I also prefer to have more speed on Garchomp so I changed his nature back to Jolly. I started to use tyranitar with stealth rock and a starter which also was a great change. One other big change was with Scolipede. Been reading a lot about it and decided to change it to be more defensively with Impish nature and 252HP/252Def to tank fighting moves. Please review these changes! I feel like they were pretty good!
