Hey guys, first time poster here. I've been playing XY/ORAS OU and its other tiers since late Gen 5, but a fan since FRLG. DPP was one of my favourite gens, and with it came one of my favourite pokemon, Gallade. Lucky for me ORAS blessed it with a mega evolution and I've wanted to use different teams to make it shine. I've come up with a hyper offense team that I think still needs tweaking, but without further ado lets get into the team!
Gallade (M) @ Galladite
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Zen Headbutt
- Swords Dance
Gallade-Mega (M) @ Galladite
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Zen Headbutt
- Swords Dance
The star of the show, Gallade got great boosts in attack and speed reaching 429/350 stats respectively with a jolly nature. Jolly of course to out speed HP fire Latios/Latias, Terrakion, and Keldeo, as well as speed tie with other base 110 speed natures. Close Combat basically kills anything after an SD that's not resisted by it, leaving very few switch ins. Knock Off is also useful for catching off pokemon that want to predict an SD, Night Slash and Shadow Sneak were used before for Slowbros and Beedrills but Knock just seemed like the better choice. Zen Headbutt purely for the damage as it does just a bit more than Psycho Cut but with less accuracy (the flinch is also nice).
Staraptor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Double-Edge
- Close Combat
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
What is hyper offense without bird spam? Another favourite Gen 4 gave me, Staraptor is a very fun pokemon to use. Although it loses significant power without Choice Band, Scarf allows Staraptor to pick off other scarf users slower than it, as well as hitting hard and mostly revenge killing everything with some prior damage. Double-edge/Brave Bird/Close Combat are to be used in the situation that works best for Staraptor. U-turn is used to scout moves, as well as break potential Focus Sash users like Breloom.
Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Tailwind
- U-turn
The better of the bird duo, Choice Banded Talonflame hits everything hard bar Rotom-W, Heatran and T-Tar. I chose this over the SD Life Orb set because I felt like this team was all about hitting hard, and giving the opportunity to give my opponent to switch into Rotom makes me take needless LO recoil, and hitting Rocky Helmet Ferrothorn basically puts me near death or take too much damage to hit another poke. U-turn allows me to predict those and gain momentum. Tailwind is used to gain some extra speed and let Gallade or Latios revenge kill.
Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Surf
Standard Latios set, not much to say here other than Surf to not be completely wall'd by Heatran and hits other things weak to it.
Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse
One of the best things that came in ORAS was the move tutors, giving Greninja the powerful Gunk Shot (cousin to Focus Miss). Gunk Shot OHKO's the standard Azumarill sets, as well as hitting physically defensive Clefable's for about 70-85% and kills the specially defensive side if its not too invested into defense. Hydro Pump and Ice Beam are standard STAB, and Dark Pulse is used to hit Slowbro.
Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 16 HP / 252 Atk / 240 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Play Rough
- Superpower
This was a toss up between this and Rotom-W as I wanted something that could wall other pokemon like Talonflame, but it was weak against everything else. So I decided on settling with this. Standard AV set for Azumarill, just with Superpower to not get wall'd by Ferrothorn and take unnecessary Iron Barb damage. Still not feeling it with Azumarill, but it works.
Well that's the team thus far, I'm happy to listen to anything you guys have to say. Thanks for taking the time to read!
